This scene has of the most emotional moments of Goldsmith's score, along with the later love theme in the swimming scene. When the characters are inside the city, the score is cold and electronic. It is only when they discover the outside world that the full orchestral music begins.
I would actually love to see a pre-Logan’s Run movie made as to how everything began with the idea of the enclosed city to people being “renewed” at the age of 30.
When Francis stumbles upon the wreckage of Box, they should have had the robot going (in garbled voice) "My biiiirddds......myyyyyy biiiirds....." (click-click--before shorting out altogether).
This scene represents the best cue Jerry Goldsmith wrote for the movie. Everything is synthetic electronic sounding until they escape from the city. Then Goldsmith unleashes full orchestra. It's also masterful how he underscores an epic sense of wonder for Logan & Jessica's reaction; but to Francis, it's horror.
Yeah, I saw that. Francis was _happy_ with his life and existence in the City, he found it fulfilling and good. The same challenges that Logan adapted to and grew from were a waking nightmare for Francis.
@@junosynth No, it isn't. But a lot of its support infrastructure _is_ underground, I'm thinking they probably emerged from the cave some distance from the City, and probably with a ridge line between them and the City.
Logan and Jessica were never told about it, and they've never seen it. Remember, the people in the City are cut off from the outside world,, and everything they think they know comes to them through the AI that runs the city. Some stuff still get passes down, but it's gradually being forgotten. Logan had heard, for ex, that their ancestors raised animals for food, but nobody had told him about the Sun or the Moon or the stars. The process is accelerated because of the age 30 limit. Normally, 200 years might involve, say, 5-8 overlapping generations. In the City nobody ever meets anyone more than one generation older than they are, there are no parent-child or older-younger relationships to pass on knowledge, it might have been 10 or 15 City generations since anyone's seen the Sun.
@@SabbatarianSundayer. Vitamin D can be obtained through diet, too. My guess is that the synthetic food in the City has everything the body needs already in it.
