I remember watching this in a cinema in Cambridge when it was first released in the UK. There were so few good science fiction movies at the time, Star Wars was still some years off in the future. For its time it was groundbreaking. I thought at the time that Logan's Run was an enjoyable futuristic movie, unforgettable. Acting, directing, effects, everything amazed me as a young teenager. It may not have aged all that well over the years, but I think it's still good.😊
It was very studio-ized. They made formulaic calculations on many levels because of the money at stake. It was what it was. At least it got made at all.
“Has it ever struck you that life is all memory, except for the one present moment that goes by you so quick you hardly catch it going?” ― Tennessee Williams.
interesting.. offering more information about this new weird land .. they should include it in the remake.. // need 1.. maybe a series too.. / Thanks for the upload.
It wasn't made very clear in the original cut of the film that they wear clothing to match their ages, but I think I've noticed something else though. They don't appear to simply wear a single shade of the colour, but rather they get darker as they get older as well. For example, when someone turns green they wear a lighter shade of green and the outfits become dark green before they turn to a light red/pink.
@@zxccxz164 It's not like getting adult jokes as a kid, dude. It's a color scheme. Maybe you were dumb as a box of rocks as a kid, but that doesn't mean everyone else was.
@@dreadcthulhu5 lol you are the jerk who would lie about everything and never grew out of it......i'll pray for you for having to live a lie your whole life and cover up for up for your incompetence
Pray for yourself. You seem a bit mental to be honest and maybe a bit slow as well. It would seem obvious to anyone with eyes and a functioning brain. And when I say I was a kid I didn't mean I was 4. I meant I was at least 12. You know, old enough to discern such patterns.
This does clarify some questions I had of them entering Carousel too bad they never completed the scene. I do hate this on an off of the remake/reboot of Logan's Run; however, its better a version worth watching than a quick cash-in.
much of this is like real-life now ...you born, work/shop...then drop. along the way given/get things to improve/make life bearable and not all of us make-it into ol-age. cancer, disease, war, euthanasia (where legal), suicide, murder all take-out quite a few at 30 or 21.
This film really suffered from bad editing. They cut out so much critical dialog that makes the story complete. I read all three books too. After reading the books the movie was better.
Considering how fast and loose this population is with sex and relationships, I will assume there are no longer any communicable diseases to be spread among them. And unless their methods of contraception are pretty much flawless, I will also assume the whole population has been rendered sterile. Cloning is a cottage industry there, so pregnancy and childbirth would be obsolete and forgotten.
Terrific work as always GH 75. I never thought of this as i have viewed this in years past. During the L.A preview when the audio was recorded i am guessing those scenes/photos without the audience recording; that those portions were cut out of the preview and have never made the light of day as a deleted scene except here on youtube. It's somewhat long but the fans want it. Thank-you.
Again, so many implications from brief lines of dialogue, including the possibility that sleep shops exist (I doubt the love shop citizen would be publicly saying she might run, even though she is just 27) . . .
Depending on what you mean by 'forced'. I suspect that most if not all employment in the City is 'assigned' one way or another. They've grown up with it, and have no counter-influences, so they take it for granted.
I still wonder how they thought "renewal" worked. Apparently the replacements are born before one's death, cf Logan 6 in the nursery. But they believed they would be reborn as a baby? That makes no sense. The baby would have to have your memories. It brings up philosophical issued of personal identity. It actually would have been a better movie if they made it more about issues such as hedonism, mortality, and personal identity.
Very scary and sad at the same time, that in their world people don't seem to realize the finality of what they're going to experience. The women just treat it as some sort of thrill or a show, totally ignoring the fact that they're about to be put to death and there's no coming back from that.
I always wondered if they had carousel every night, once a week, or once a month. They mentioned the good crowd, as if if wasn’t that great most times they had it. And if it was every day, it would get boring. They should’ve kept this scene in. It explained the Love shop. The flame out if they don’t renew. And cathedral.
Rob, it should be done in early 2020. There were 17,000 film frames to clean, and I only have ~600 left to go. There is a spot where the film broke and some frames are missing. I'll probably source those from Selected Scenes '76. Then a touch more color restoration, and then FINALLY should be done. Thanks for your patience!
Yes. Matter of fact it is practically done, except I'm looking for someone to illustrate 3 or 4 storyboard sketches to be used for shots where no footage nor photos currently circulate.
I have been working on a 3D version of the mazecar bringing the runner to a roof (which I have made the Arcade building) and the runner taking an elevator (modeled after stills of the deleted shot) down to the area where Francis kills him. Here's a link to the render of the intro so far. I haven't yet comped in the Carrousel or Arcade buildings in this version. www.flickr.com/photos/39292451@N04/30336023390/in/photolist-2Feb5e-NdG3S3-sDL9Xe Here's an earlier version with less detailed models to show the entire range of motion. www.flickr.com/photos/39292451@N04/35268664453/in/dateposted-public/
I've always wondered about the mazecar stopping on a rooftop at night. Any idea if that was ever shot? And did they film the runner getting out of the mazecar? I've never seen any photos of it. My night version of the City of Domes is a lot darker than the ones in the film. There are a lot of cool accidents in the later renders. I never realized how much that the DS building would reflect the rest of the city: it's one of the elements I'm still in the process of putting together. I would like to shoot footage of an actor who looks like the original actor, to be sitting in the mazecar, to get out and get into the elevator, and to be riding in the elevator as it descends.
Yes, rooftop filming took place on top of the "Park Stemmons" building located at 8700 N. Stemmons Freeway, Dallas TX. Unfortunately, no footage nor photos circulate among fans. Your night version of the City is indeed darker than the film, but I think your version looks MUCH better.
Why are there still frames? Why does it need to be reconstructed, what happened to the original footage? What does that even mean? How do you reconstruct a scene?
I would have been messed up, as a goth in my youth, we would have just worn black. Guess we would have messed with Carousel, as we wouldn't be caught dead in red.
If this scene had been included in the final film, it would have been ridiculous. The concept of renewal as shown here implies that those 30 year olds who renew can continue living in their current bodies. Since no one actually renews, there would be no older people (up to say age 60, the end of another 30-year cycle) living in the city, and the populace would find it hard to believe that renewal exists. The concept of renewal appears to have changed in the final film (after deleting this scene), where those who supposedly renew lose their current bodies like everyone else on Carrousel but whose souls are reincarnated into infants in Nursery.
