At that stage, we all knew how sick he was. We werent out there in the audience for us, we were there to support him. He was the soundtrack of our lives.🇨🇦❤️

I was so fortunate to attend his last concert in Winnipeg with my husband and kids. Can't wait for Part 2!

This incredible HIP tour was not quite Gord's final chapter. As soon as this farewell HIP tour was finished he then immediately released a solo album and a novel, along with an animated documentary called The Secret Path. Gord began The Secret Path project as 'Ten Poems' incited by the story of Chanie Wenjack, a twelve year-old boy who died fifty years ago on October 22, 1966, in flight from the Cecilia Jeffrey Indian Residential School near Kenora, Ontario, walking home to the family he was taken from over 400 miles away. Gord was introduced to Chanie Wenjack (miscalled “Charlie” by his teachers) by Mike Downie, his brother, who shared with him Ian Adams’ Maclean’s story from February 6, 1967, “The Lonely Death of Charlie Wenjack.” Gord then also went on to do a short Canadian solo tour to further highlight the The Secret Path project. A few months later, the Assembly of First Nations honoured Gord Downie by presenting him with a star blanket and giving him the honourary name “Wicapi Omani,” Lakota for “Man Who Walks Among The Stars.” Gord broke down in tears during the ceremony, which took place in Gatineau, Que.

I went to an outdoor Tragically Hip Concert in Buffalo NY quite a few years ago and into their 3rd song there was a huge thunderstorm with rain that damaged their entire sound system and forced them to cancel the concert. While everyone was leaving in the downpour, Gord picked up an acoustic guitar and kept singing and playing guitar through the pouring rain while people left. What a guy! They ended up rescheduling and reissuing tickets to make up for it!

It's hard to watch, but the cohesion of the group members around Gord, even with their doubts is magnificent...I would like to have this will to go a little further with this disease...a great lesson in humanity.

This was very difficult to watch. I haven’t seen it before. I tell you one thing, as I experienced seeing this exact cancer strip away my grandfather … I have no idea how Gord made it through the tour. Absolute determination and perseverance. I have a hard time even looking at pictures of the final tour. God Bless you Gord for doing it though.

I'm sorry this hit me really hard. 😢 Keep them in your thoughts and your heart forever!
