Lou is the last dragon of Avalir and you will do as he says!! Exandria Unlimited: Calamity Part 4 • Fire and Ruin | Exandr... Watch more Critical Role videos bit.ly/3NI3Hr6
Nydas, for coming from such an opulent and mercantile background that you would assume would make him selfish and greedy, was truly the greatest hero of the Calamity cast. Sending his ships to save the people, fighting through the streets to activate the Taxmen, when he could have easily dipped at any point. Great character. "I am the last Dragon of Avalir, and you will do as I command!"
I was fully expecting for him to give into greed at any point and suffer for it, since it seemed like his character was inspired by King Midas to the point of having almost the same name, but he ended up being one of the most selfless and key players in the whole thing and it's amazing.
His "for Avalir!" moment when he burst into the streets with an army of Taxmen and swashbucklers, backed up by a spiritual dragon, was my favorite moment in the whole mini-series
@@theincrediblefella7984 This feels oddly self-righteous for someone who clicked on a video for a clip of a thng with greater context. Like someone trolling for something to be angry and lash out about.
Upon rewatching closely, you can in fact LITERALLY see his eyes track the back of the DM screen as he moves his head back after looking down to start the "summoning sequence" in character, he ABSOLUTELY was looking at the quote this dragon says upon being summoned, and then is IMMEDIATELY shut down before he finishes getting even *ONE SYLLABLE* out of his mouth. So perfect. Good catch on that.
You can see him just gathering up all the frustration from all the shit they've been through up to that point and just dump it on Shak. And it comes through so perfectly in the way he emphasizes certain words. "I am the LAST Dragon of Avilir, and you WILL DO. AS I. COMAND."
I think it’s extra beautiful because Nydas acknowledges that the city is already beyond saving, knowing he WILL be the last. But it’s that mindset that empowers him to fight to save as many people as possible, instead of the city, so that they can live on and pursue their own dreams in the world.
you can tell they've been playing D&D together for too long when they catch on and start yes anding each other's shenanigans. Lou definitely knew they were in for a ride right off the bat.
Marisha, Matt and Taliesin have also played with Brennan before, and know what a wildly creative guy he is. Definitely recommend checking out Brennan's part in LA by Night
@@matnovak dude it was the best 4 episodes of D&D I have ever watched. All-Star cast and I'm convinced Brennen is some kind of advanced cybernetic organism
I love this. I don’t think this exchange could have happened between two Critical Role members or between a Dimension 20 and Critical Role member. It has pure Dimension 20 energy
@@carojean1474 And it is utter perfection, it's why I love Brennan so much as a DM, A man with incredible talents for improv and some of the best monologues out there in actual play, everything from super serious to super jokey stuff, it makes you appreciate it even more when you occasionally see him as a player, and yet he also knows the importance of letting the players shine in their respective moments, getting cut off in character is not ALWAYS a good thing, but in the right moments, it is a perfect choice. He knows as a DM, sometimes getting cut off and immediately going quiet is the best thing to do for the scene, he allows PCs to feel badass and in control of a lot of stuff when they truly are.
@@DeathnoteBB The difference being that if the teacher doesn't stop the noisy student, the student won't stop. The dragon had basically a premade script that he would say and be done.
Lou knows exactly that Brennan is the kind of DM that would totally give a whole fucking speech and then use that to account for time passed, hehehehe.
Well, no, earlier when hed summined the dragon brennen had the dragon say 'is my name mocked again?' (Or something like that) and said that it happened every time the dragon was summoned. Thats what this is in refernece to
Lou did some heavy lifting in the episode! From this hilarious moment to some great rise to action speeches it was great. “That’s right AS THE FUCK I SAY” is so good
this one scene has the best reactions. aabria shouting "let's goo!" travis needing to walk about, Sam dislocating his jaw to laugh as loud as possible. beautiful
This moment makes me wonder if Lou had that scene planned out from the moment BLM mentioned how Shak says that same line every time he's summoned and he went "oh yeah, it's all coming together"
@@shepardren8006 the Gamechangers episodes where he gets the "say something we'll have to bleep" and the "upset a producer" prompts are absolute gold. 😂
does anyone else have the head cannon that Lou is playing the adult version of his Fantasy High Dimension 20 character?? I was so reminded of the motorcycle in this moment 😂
Honestly I bet somebody out there must've said, or wanted to say, the same thing to their bow of vengance, or was it oath bow? That bows that wisphers "Swift death to my enemies" EVERY TIME YOU NOCK AN ARROW! This is why people make rangers instead of fighters for archer characters, well that and arrow economy. Like can you imagine hearing that 3 times every turn? 6 with action surge? (4 and 8 if you are level 20, but it's rare anyone gets at that level)
Everyone here’s laughing; meanwhile, here I am nervously sweating over Marisha’s downright *bloodlusted* expression at the beginning. This woman needs to play a horror movie villain, stat. She could make Pennywise nervous with that stare.
Woulda been better with Matt DM'ing his own setting and story. I don't think it was fair to expect Brennan to pick up behind Matt and do the Exandria story the same kind of justice as the creator could have done. Just like if Aabria had been a player and Matt had been the DM in the OG EXU, it would have been so much better. Sadly, such things are not to be ☹
Have you looked at the comment sections of the last two Calamity episodes? They are overflowing with comments saying “This is the best episode of D&D I have EVER watched.” You’re absolutely entitled to your opinion, and I love Mercer as much as anyone, but I hope you know you are in a vast minority on this one… Brennan is an amazing DM who has always rivaled Matt’s brilliance, and he absolutely raised the bar this campaign. The Age of Arcanum was brought to life. Almost every moment was iconic. Brennan’s performance as Asmodeus was devastatingly haunting. The cast and Brennan had amazing chemistry and teamwork in telling an almost perfect story. I’m surprised anyone had any doubts about any of this. What specifically did you think Matt could have done better with? Continuity? Characters? Atmosphere? I thought Brennan had it all and more.
just another person who apparently doesnt recognize that other dms are just as good if not better then matt. brennan is much better then matt at telling a dark and nitty gritty story, at least in my opinion
Matt's entire message is sharing...he 100% loves watching other people bring his setting to life, in ways he hadn;t thought of, with beats he never expected. This is such a toxic post man
