Bro while you got the engine out, could you pull a tape measure from the back of the block to the front pulley? im looking into doing this swap into a b8 a4 wagon and im just ballparking how much engine bay space ill need.
Here’s one, not in English and only shows the front end for a short time, but still a reference nonetheless: m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ebu7XczVKX8.html
Thank you! Yes, I have to redesign the adapter plate to relocate the starter and also redesigned the crankshaft “flex plate” / ring gear first though. Once bugs are worked out then I’ll consider.
Ive been thinking about doing a ls1 or ls2 swap in my 08 S4 quattro in the near future.. What about the b7 S4 6 speed manual, how would it compare to the b8 trans you used in your build with the spacing and subframe clearence etc? Any help or pointers are appreciated..
Well pretty much the B8 transmission is required unless you want to relocate your radiator to the rear of the vehicle. The axle flanges on the B8 are about 6 inches forward compared to B7, so this means engine sits closer to firewall with B8 transmission
@projectLSaudiA4 I appreciate the info.. Do u know of anyone who has done the radiator relocation successfully/ a post I could follow? If I do decide to go that route.. Also are u offering the adapter plate or motor mounts for sale for this swap?
However I do fear If i end up using the b7 trans and do the rear radiator setup, that the weight distribution from those few more inches forward on the nose would cause the car to handle worse than it already does. With the b7s already being nose heavy with the 4.2.. Think im more worried about that than the radiator relocation..
@@eanthony2013 relocating the radiator for me isn’t an option because you have to cut up to many things. I don’t plan to sell any parts for the 0A3 or 01E transmission. You can search LS audi swap and find some people who have done it
Reliability, torque, cost of maintenance, easy to work on, stronger motor (stock Gen 4 LS bottom end can take 1600 ft-lbs), vast aftermarket support. Aluminum block so weight is same as Audi. I purchased my aluminum 5.3 for $600. 4.2 suffers from terrible timing chain issues and doesn’t make any torque due to small displacement. 4.2 is also around 300hp (Toyota Camry power) so if you’re fine with that then yes a 4.2 S4 is fine. Lastly, Facebook marketplace is flooded with A4s and S4 with broken timing belts or chains that are going to end up in the junk yard because people don’t want to spend $3000 to put a failure prone engine back in.
@@projectLSaudiA4 I have a M/T B6 S4. It's actually pretty reliable engine-wise. I'm on the ORIGINAL chain/tensioners/guides at 154K miles, changing oil every 10K mi. as recommended. No issues with the chains. Cost of maintenance isn't too bad since I do my own work and buy aftermarket parts. The swap itself requires a TON of research AND fab work, so you're actually doing more work that you would dealing with the reliability issues of a stock car. To me, the effort might be worth it if it put out 500+ bhp at the crank without a turbo. You have to have a lot of time, technical knowledge and guts to do this. Respect.
@@projectLSaudiA4 thanks man! Which OB2 did you use. I want to put a 07k in my b7, so I've been looking at 1.8t and 2.0t options. But didn't know if all of the OB2 bellhousings were the same
@@itsQUINTEN24 I used the HRQ I believe, search Audi SSP documents and find the one that’s lists 4.11 final drive ration and that’s what I’m using. I wanna say I’ve seen an ALH swap on a B8 before which I think has the same bellhousing as 07k but I could be wrong.
@@projectLSaudiA4 from what I've seen. I think the ALH 1.9 tdi and the 07k have the same bellhousing pattern. It looks like your transmission was from a b8 with a 3.2, so now I just need to figure out if those two Bell housings are a match
@@ricardohay4653 No real updates right now. I built a pole barn to dedicate to working on the Audi and believe I’ve found a CNC mill for manufacturing the adapter plates. Will post an update video as soon as I can.
