The fact that the average age used to be 15 when they would get their periods and then later be walked into the beginnings of women hood . Our bodies as women on average only have about 2 years after our first period hits to grow. Idk I guess it all changed to 12 now? With all the hormones being put in our food affecting not only women's estrogen levels (they are going up ) but also messing with men's natural testosterone levels ( they are going down ). There used to only be a few exceptions to children who got their periods from 11-13years old so it's so weird for me to comprehend. I got my period at 11 . That is literally a baby! This video breaks my heart for so many reasons, but one point that stood out to me - she said "I prayed over Everly every day and, because of my prayer, she was safe". I prayed over my child with almost every thought that I had during the 3 weeks I knew about my pregnancy before I miscarried. If I had been weaker in my foundations when I heard that statement, it would have spiraled me into "What if I wasn't praying hard enough? What if I wasn't saying the right words? Was I to blame for the loss of my baby?" when it has NOTHING to do with the outcome of a pregnancy. Prayer is good, yes, but prayer does NOT equal safety or protection. The Lord does what is in His will - regardless of prayer. I know Maddie is spewing out rhetoric she doesn't even understand, but it doesn't make it any less toxic. I hope the young women who took in these words have been restored, and my heart breaks for those who have had their faith impacted because of what she has said.

I got pregnant at 17 and this was my moms way of rationalizing it. It was God’s plan because I was going down the wrong path and my son saved my life 🙄 In reality I got pregnant because I was lonely and trying to figure out a way to work through my abandonment and neglect issues. I didn’t get that when I was 17, I only came to that realization a couple years ago. Being a teen parent sucked! It was hard and I didn’t get to have the same experiences as my friends. At the time I thought it was no big deal being a young parent but it’s definitely not the life I’d want for my kids. And I can honestly say I was a better mom at 29 when I had my third child than I was at 17 and 21 when I have my two oldest. Maturity matters.

I want mothers and fathers of any age to stop putting this weight on their children. Saying that having a child "saved them". Even if you feel that way, cool do you. A child made you more responsible because you had to be. You were forced to be more responsible because you had to care for a child. Your child did not do that FOR you. YOU brought your child into the world, and a child is not responsible for saving you from your own poor decisions.

One problematic thing that I don’t like is her saying her daughter saved her with her depression. It’s a horrible message to put out there to other teens. It glorifies teen pregnancy and says if someone is depressed, they can just go have a baby to feel better. You can’t do that. For one thing, pregnancy with the hormones can add to depression. Also, raising a baby, especially as a teen, is stressful. It can exacerbate things, or you may not be emotionally up for the stress. Not to mention, eventually, your kid will grow up and move on with their life. You can’t rely on them to fix your issues.

Thank you SO much for saying that God is not a transactional God! I’ve never heard anybody say that before. I’ve never understood why or how someone could pray “stronger” than someone else for their child to live, but another mom & dad lose theirs.. Did they not pray hard enough? Was God not with them? This is honestly something that has always kept me an arm lengths way away from religion (which could be great since all my family is Mormon lol) I still can’t make much sense of it. She is working on it still but if it weren’t for the birth of her daughter she would not have been here cause she’s stated so many times on her channel she’s nearly unalived herself. I started dating in high school, my parents are pretty chill people, I had blue hair in middle school, wore fun clothes. They worried more about who I was as a person. Anyway, there were lots of talks, lots. Talks about boundaries, talks about if I decided I was ready, etc. My parents knew the boys and also wanted to know their parents, in a very casual way. My parents also encouraged us to spend time with my whole family. It wasn't a control thing, it was always just an invite. I took boyfriends to the Waterpark, the lake, out to eat, the movies, my parents always paid for it too, which was nice. I got to spend time with my boyfriend for free. At first I thought my mom was weird for offering this stuff but she explained that whoever I'm dating is important to them too, for many reasons and that being able to spend time with other people with your boyfriend or girlfriend is important. It helped weed out a lot of guys with bad intentions or guys who were jerks. I dated a lot very casually, and when they would come meet my family I always watched how they treated my brother. He's 5 years younger than me, if they weren't kind to him I was done with them. Now I really admire my parents for this and it's something they still offer me as an adult. Both of my adult boyfriends have experienced a lot of fun things on my parents dime because my parents love me, want to spend time with me, and want to get to know them and include them.

@@arielschweitzer7056Yes it does, maturity and age are closely associated. I had raised my siblings (boy and girl twins) who were born when I was 8 years old. I was a fill-in mom because my dad worked a lot and my mom was not super motherly and she was very overwhelmed. I fed them, changed them, dressed them, burped them, put them to bed, did EVERYTHING for them. I grew up fast and still would not have been mature enough to raise a baby of my own at 14. Absolutely not. There’s no such thing as apt maturity for having babies that young. It doesn’t exist. You can’t be 30 years old at 14. You will never. You’ve never rented a home before, driven a car on your own, gone grocery shopping alone, had a job and income for yourself alone, you have no idea what it is to be an adult regardless of what you’ve seen or been through that young.

It’s really hard to watch her speak, it reminds a so much of all the trauma I got in church. I went to college and got in with all the campus ministry programs and ended up with the hard core christians that wanted to spend their Friday night sharing the gospel with the drunk students, which I never felt comfortable with. I was also suffering severely with my anorexia and self harm. They would tell me that I wasn’t really a believer because I let satan guide my choices with my problems. They refused to see it as a serious mental health struggle. When I was raped I was told by the older students, who were supposed to be like mentors to me that it was my fault. If I hadn’t been alone with him I wouldn’t have been assaulted. I ended up getting “left to my sin”, not able to go to church and all my friends didn’t come around anymore. I ended up overdosing, and it is a straight up miracle I’m alive because a friend found me who wasn’t even supposed to be at my apartment that night. I’ve since found my relationship with God, and it’s not going to a judgmental church every Sunday. It’s just insane that someone put in that girl’s head God wanted her to have a baby at 14. People want to forget that we have free will and that God isn’t up there just saying, “I’ll give you this because you can take it, I’ll give you this because you earned it, and blah, blah, blah. Where were her parents when she was getting pregnant at 13? I worry for the young girls who see this and think that you can have this great fairy tale life if you have a baby, and they don’t see the reality of it all. So many adults failed this girl.

No shade to her, but it’s not good. I hope someone can educate her on the dangers of family vlogging, also on the truth about God and how what she’s been told is completely wrong. Fun fact: "God will not give you more than you can handle" isn't even in the Bible. This is a badly paraphrased/misinterpreted version of 1 Corinthians 10:13 "No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it." And in context it had to do with idol worship. That's why reading is so important.

I grew up in a church. I loved my church family. I was very involved and did all the things...I sang in the choir, I helped in the nursery, helped teach Sunday school, I went to the camps, the retreats, the concerts, the Bible studies, etc. At 15 the church asked my adopted lesbian sister to not come to any “church high school overnight events”. I could not understand this. When I went to the youth pastor about this, because I couldn’t understand how -if god is love, how can we shun someone? The pastor fed me a bunch of bullsh*t lines, trying to gaslight me....I couldn’t find a true justification for what was happening other then hate. Due to all this, i wanted real answers. I read the entire bible for myself. I finished it within a year, and then with a clearer understanding of theology I left the church. I still have faith. I still believe in god. However, I don’t feel the need to ever go to a church. You are right also about the “god doesn’t give you more then you can handle” crap! 7 years ago I became permanently disabled due to a severe spinal injury. I remember being at one of my lowest points and someone told me that. Immediately, I felt like a failure because I couldn’t handle this. It took me awhile to come to my senses and realize that isn’t the truth. Sometimes sh*t happens that you can’t handle, and that’s okay. We are far from perfect and that’s ok.

I've wanted to make a video about the dangers of teen pregnancy, as someone who was a teen parent. I do not have thick skin though lol. I never thought of putting my children online. All of my accounts are private, because they're on there every so months. I only let family and friends follow me, even then I mostly just send family pics of them directly. Instead of posting for all of friends and family to see.

I’ve been waiting for a Maddie lambert video!

Alrighty, time to dig in. She got pregnant when she was 13 and turned 14 very very very shortly after. She was 14 when she found out but 13 when she conceived. Maddie is very very different now. Similarly with cam Maddie has grown a lot and changed. Yes, who Maddie was may have been questionable but I think it’s important to acknowledge how much she has grown and changed. Her content has shifted and her life is turning around. Her daughter is doing wonderfully, she’s looking for a home to buy, she lives in her own, etc.

I got pregnant at 16. My parents were very attentive. They were very strict and I would go as far to say over protective. I was in love and it was my own fault I knew what I was doing was wrong. I never thought to start a RU-vid channel … it kind of irked me to be honest. I didn’t want everyone to know my story or the beginning of my daughter’s. It’s a very real conversation I want to have with her when she’s a teenager. Anyways- I graduated highschool early. My daughter’s father and I waited until I was 18 to get married & move in together to make sure it was what we wanted to do and make sure it was what’s best for our daughter. My husband went to college and got his degree in mechanical engineering and worked during his schooling. Without help from either of our parents. We live comfortably now, with our new 16 month old son & with 6 years of marriage. We worked so hard and made a lot of sacrifices for our children. It makes me sad to see people capitalizing off of these situations.

Coming from a Christian background and a lot of church trauma, the exact emotional manipulation. This is insane to watch after coming out of that. Love the videos Josh! Don’t stop doing what you’re doing!

I would love to hear what you have to say about prayer and how we are taught to pray a certain way. Growing up I felt like God was a jeany. How should we pray?

Prayer is a conversation. Often we pray when we want something... or need something. Imagine prayer like sitting down to dinner with your family, or a close trusted friend. It's literally a coffee with God.. and most often should have nothing to do with transaction.

I need an entire overhaul on my view of God. I have know idea where to even begin, I’m just now realizing I have no clue who God is I’ve just been fed a bunch of feel good crap my whole life. It’s effected my views on sex, sin, wrong and right, growing up in a Christian school and family has only showed me how to hide things and lie and be uncomfortable. Honestly I have to remind myself that I’m married and sex with my husband is ok. I still picture God as the cartoon character from the books in elementary school. My conversations with him are suppose to be short and not to waste his time. I even have to say “ in Jesus name I pray amen” at the end of a prayer because if I don’t it won’t “send”. I would watch an entries series of you talk about any of this.

Thank you, Josh, for sharing what you believe God is. Ever since I left the Mormon church, it has been so hard for me to find and grasp who God is. You laid out all of the fundamental truths of God's love and what he wants for us. I watched this video when it first came out, and it confused me so much as a teenager. I did not understand why God would want someone to sin to improve their lives. I know your intent on making this video wasn’t to help people who are unsure about what they believe but thank you for helping me in that way. Please keep being you and sharing your opinions and beliefs with the world. You are making a difference!

I got pregnant with my first baby at 17. My parents were not around for the most part and I was seeking attention from the wrong people. It was a choice I made but never ever did I think to make a RU-vid channel. It was hard enough raising a NICU baby and going to school. A few years later teen mom came out and I was baffled by how these girls were being praised for their decisions. Being a teen mom is not the end of the world but it's not something I wouldnt wish on any teen. I finished school in the top 10% of my class and have a great job now at 31 but to honest it was hard as hell I lost a huge part of my teen years and grew up way too fast. I feel scared for my kids and the world they are growing up in. These decisions these kids are making to become famous and make money is frightening.

Idk how I feel about the "parents let you get pregnant at 13" comments.... I'm a helicopter Mom and I even homeschooled my oldest until the 9th grade. The only bad thing she ever did was sneak her boyfriend in the house, in the middle of the night, one time. I was obviously asleep. When I found out I immediately installed a security alarm system on the windows and doors and I made her pay for it. Had she gotten pregnant that night would it have been my fault? Kids find ways. If they decide to take a detour and have sex, when they are suppose to be walking to school, would that be the parents fault? There are absentee parents for sure, but making a blanket statement that "parents let their kids get pregnant" doesn't sit right to me.

Yeah, teens can lie and sneak around. I don’t think it’s necessarily fair to blame the parent completely. In fact, sometimes, the more strict you are, the more they rebel and get better at lying and getting away with stuff.

This is exactly the kind of shit I grew up in . I grew up in a huge showy church where today have I realized was more of a cult . I thought if I listened to secular music I would go to hell! This poor girl..I am thankful I left at 19 1/2 it was the best thing I ever did for myself seeing the actual world of different people and different backgrounds helped me more to see people and God than church did .
