I love that Magic brought up the most insane (and honestly, unbelievable) fact about the career of Kareem Abdul Jabaar. In those days freshmen in college couldn't play, and no one came out of college early. So in 1967, 1968, and 1969 KAJ won 3 national titles and was national player of the year ALL THREE YEARS!!😲😲 UCLA had an 88-2 record‼That sh** will never be touched.

What really sets Michael Jordan apart is his creativity/imagination. He could have all the awards in the world. but it is the fact he did have all the awards in the world both offensively and defensively, and heck, even awards he didn't need like the slam dunk contest twice (an elective participation because of the love of the game and art), 2 gold medals in the olympics. Those awards after the creativity/poetry in motion of his game just solidifed him as the greatest, because there isn't one player who has that too. Not even one. Players typically have one or the other, but not everything. He had everything. He was a pleasure to watch, as he invented things and then dominated simultaneously.

@@pimpnamedslickback7780 Both of their games resembles LeBron's. That's why their teammates are usually worse off when they play with them, just like LeBron's teammates. They are each heliocentric players, meaning that instead of the ball moving from teammate to teammate, the ball moves from them to another teammate, then back to them, etc. Notice how LeBron ALWAYS needs more help regardless of who is on the roster? Notice how LeBron's teammates often come up short when he faces experienced teams? It's not because his teammates suck. It's because they don't get to play their game, they have to acquiesce to Bron's game. So when the pressure is on Bron like in the Finals against a great team, his teammates don't step up because they are not used to having the ball and showing their stuff on a regular basis. This is the reason why Bron hand picks guys who are already All Stars and elite scorers like Wade, Kyrie and AD. Each of those three guys can go get it on their own regardless of what Bron is or isn't doing out on the floor. Wade was already a Finals MVP before he won with Bron. But most of Bron's regular teammates don't have this ability. Bron is a better overall natural talent than Harden and Luka, so he can carry his teams further in the playoffs than those guys while playing "The LeBron System". But as I said before, that system is rarely successful against well coached teams like the Spurs, 2011 Mavs and Golden State.

The greats wanted to win, and stats is just a by-product of them wanting to win. That's the difference between playing for stats even in a lossing effort. Championship, accolades and context (compare them to people in their position) and you'll see what Magic (and majority of the world) sees... MJ is the GOAT.

What puzzles me about Lebron as the #1 player ever for me personally, are his negatives. That being his finals record despite moving around and stacking teams, most turnovers in NBA/ABA history and no one is a close second, and the epic finals choke jobs vs Dallas and San Antonio (game 6 final two minutes) which may be the worst choke of any player ever in finals history. Russell, Chamberlain, Jabbar, Jordan, Magic, Bird, Kobe, Duncan, Dr. J., Olajuwon, and Shaq don't have those negatives.

I have to give him that it's easier to drive for the basket, the current rule set does enable the guy on offense, but I think these guys underestimate how much more active and complicated playing defense is now as well as how exhausting it is to defend that way compared to how they did it. Sure they would be able to score more points, but more points are going to be scored on them, and there are Clyde Drexlers everywhere to exploit the inherent offensive advantage (no shade on Clyde the glide, current NBA players come from a much larger pool and receive much more prep, have more resources to derive their skill set from and have learned the value of grinding the offseason like Kobe; despite all these advantages, Drexler would be a #1 option of a team in these times as he had the full complement of talent and ability needed to excel in any era). Magic is one of the greats and greats are greats because they find a way, but I think he would be just a tidge more respectful of defense in the modern NBA if he actually felt what it was like to defend at that pace while having to double the amount of activity formally needed because you can't keep them in front you by simply putting a hand on them. I dare to say that I still think Magic would be a top talent in the league today, but he might not be laterally quick enough to defend guards on the perimeter. If his his strategy to create his own shot was to go at the basket his game would be very similar to Luka, but even Luka who is gifted at fundementalling his way inside with size and bb-iq has to mix up his game with step backs to be the offensive player he is. I still think Magic would've found a way, but if you can't score on all three levels, you're limited, and the people who invoke the triple threat of pass, shoot or drive are the most dangerous. Magic would've found a way, but he would've had to expand his game beyond what was. Lots of modern players can look back at the 80s and 90s and think defending like that would've been easy.
