Yep, that does it. "Quit whining or I'll drop your ass back in that volcano" is my new favorite Commander Shepard quote. Over 13 years later and I'm still finding things to love about Mass Effect. Also, I can't believe someone could talk to Liara like that!

I remember in my first play through I went straight to noveria and couldn’t figure out why the game was so damn hard

I did Recruit Liara, Noveria, Feros, Virmire and then Ilos. I was questioning why Noveria was so hard lol. how dumb i was

Yeah it's awesome that they wrote an entirely different section of dialogue based on when you recruit Liara

So this is why I never got this dialog again on my subsequent playthroughs! I only had it in my first one too.

It was the last thing I did my first playthrough as well

@@thekingflea2199no they saw that shit and actually believed Shepard at least the salarian and Asari Councler does they put in the official records for people of high ranks to know that reapers exist it is why the specters all believed Shepard pretty openly even tho they are not allowed to talk about it due to public panic

Yes! Most of the time you just come off sounding like a dick. Renegade options that don't appear to be all that harsh at a glance, once they leave Shepard's mouth it is in a tone you did not intend and feel bad for choosing. That is just a problem with the dialogue wheel in general though. What you are choosing doesn't always line up with what comes out of the character's mouth.

That's why I always go Paragon. In ME2,there are some hilarious Renegade quick time events but, for the most part, I continue being Paragon. I like the galaxy's biggest hero and only hope to be nice instead of being a complete @sshole.

Renegade is the funniest way to play. Just be nice to your crew and Anderson and an ass to literally everyone else

Unfortunately there's some renegade options that will help with war assets. Like exterminating the rogue geth.

Playing Renegade doesn't mean you have to be an ass to the people you actually canonize that your shepard likes. Choosing ONLY renegade options when they aren't big choices will sometimes be funny but I reserve that for the characters I don't like and it makes for a Shepard that feels more real, IMO.

And then again in the sequel. Right in the kisser. Superb. Plus I'd had enough of her snide insinuations

I normally go Paragon, but I make sure to always punch the journalist. I dont know why, it would feel wrong if I did not

My ringtone is a line from the mission where you disarm a nuke. The femshep version has so much attitude. I was in a company meeting one time (it was a small business). The CEO was talking, when I got a call. So while he's talking, all of a sudden you hear "You assume I give a damn. That's cute." 🤣

@@vkak1 A LOT of laughter! :D It was a small company. We'd often hang out after work, go out for drinks, things like that. It had a real family feel to it.

I enjoy the extra dialogue, but forcing Liara to shoot down (and be shot by) her mom was kind of cruel.

Yeah that Colossus is a beast. That Krogan and his Geth minions at the end always give me a bit of trouble too lol

So, I know they revamped the gameplay for that, I'm gonna assume it is way better. And yes, they took out some ass shots....but it's a small price to pay honestly.

Ahhh so that's why that happens. I played through the Virmire mission recently (to get this footage) without Garrus & Liara. Wrex just automatically stood down after like 1 or 2 lines of dialogue. I was surprised! I guess the game doesn't want you to dip below 3 squadmates once you leave The Citadel? So it just automatically keeps Wrex alive if you only have Kaidan, Ashley and Tali when you get to Virmire.

Yes but only because it's going to be a topic in another video. Garrus has some unique dialogue in ME2 if you don't recruit him in ME1

As someone in the midst of playing through LE, I kinda prefer low res Liara. Something about her LE incarnation feels very uncanny valley to me.

Doubtful, they didn't really have an option to be a dick in Andromeda so I doubt whatever they call the next game will be any better. I also doubt they will ever bring Shepard back from the dead, again, since 3 was ment to be the end of his/her story.

It's actually kind of the other way around. ME1, Renegade is pretty balanced and mostly just, 'Shut up, I'm talking, you're wrong.' Kinda thing. ME2 they go for more of a bad cop, badass outlaw type of thing, which works well, though some Paragon options I consider necessary in ME2. Like saving the Genophage research data. ME3 is where Renegade just becomes utterly psychotic and awful. I hate it. Murdering friends, literally. Innocents, genociding, even. I can never do the big Renegade options in ME3, like sabotaging the Genophage cure. It's just wrong.

@@serathaevistille995 No, it's not. I'm not talking about the actions that follow the renegade options. I'm talking about the dialogue, i.e., what he actually says, is much more entertaining/funny in ME1 than in any of the other games. Like when he tells Liara to shut up or he's going to toss her down a volcano. There's nothing nearly that funny in ME2 or ME2 for renegade.

Always hated Renegade path as your lines are all dick lines.

Well, she made it sound like her life's work was dedicated solely for their mission.

Nobody on Normandy knows about Ilos and everyone suggests that the Benezia's daughter might know more about that like if it was something obvious that Liara will know about Ilos. I bet lorewise you could look into any Alliance database and Liara is obsolete BUT the game simply forces Liara on you. (Although it would still be a very hard thing to do because Shepard has only images of Prothean town being attacked by collectors. He has no idea about Collectors etc of course BUT he has totally no idea about the name Ilos => they would have to go through all planets that are linked to Mu relay and then sort them by whether they have Prothean ruins or not and when they would identify Prothean worlds - THEN they would need to go through all the photos of all planets until they see Ilos from the visions. SO, trying Liara is better, easier and more convenient by far and I would try to exhaust all my other options before doing the archive search especially since you know she studied the protheans)

Its totally not. She changes based on writer's needs, not based on her achievements and especiences. They literally tried to do afterthought explanation of her insane changes in comic books and DLC (they needed to do all that to make her at least slightly possible BUT its simply not enough). Liara doesnt change from one into another, Liara is something in one game and gets throw to the trash AND new Liara replaces her - thats not good writing, thats actually one of the worst writing methods. Crucible is insanely bad writing as well - complete deus ex machina ending that wasnt even mentioned in ME1 and ME2 (esspecially "we wrote ourselves into the corner so...") AND of course its Liara the Plot device that finds it. She doesnt do anything for Shepard as a Shadobroker. (Apart from the intel that is more about gameplay than anything helpful really AND its Shepard that gets all the intel anyways.) They literally made her cold backstabby Shadowbroker from Prothean researcher - after backlash they released half a year later her DLC (Lair of the Shadowbroker) to mention that she will use the organization for something good, do the catchup with Shepard and all that. (Because they realized how much they fd up with Liara. No things like Mass effect Redeption and other comic books werent enough. Full DLC as a sorry, we fd up was needed that retconned some of her character change.) In ME3 they tried to downplay that personality even more and force her on you because they didnt wanna receive the backlash again. She is so friendly to the point of being a stalker and very creepy if you dont romance. (If you romance its acceptable only because thats what people loving one another do.) Her Shadow broker status is mostly used in jokes and comic relief moments throughout the third game because they dont dare to do anything with Liara the Shadowbroker AND with Javik (Eden Prime) and Crucible they try desperately to reverse all the damage done by her ME2 change. You might enjoy the change BUT its complete trash character design and very badly written.
