WATCH MORE - Chandler Bing is without a doubt Perry's most celebrated character. So let's take a look at what made Chandler so memorable: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cp2X4W8-vIA.html
Matthew Perry was the first celebrity growing up that I knew struggled with addiction. Later, when I was rewatching Friends during COVID lockdown and was kind of forced into my own rehab, I read Matthew Perry's book. He really saved my life. I still relapsed, but every time I remember stories like his, it makes the time between lapses longer and longer. I will miss him.
I’m proud of you just for even TRYING to stay sober. You say there are multiple lapses, but the fact that the time between lapses gets longer every time means you are learning to live above your problems, and I’m super proud of you for that. I hope you can continue your sobriety long into the future.
Oh goodness, you are the reason he had to live and be sober. He wanted to be remembered for help others with their addiction and if his transparency helped one person...he was successful in his life. ❤
What impressed me the most was the number of comments from fans saying how much Friends/Chandler helped them and continues to help them through depression, trauma, heartbreak etc. I hope Matthew knew that his legacy as far as helping goes is not "only" to those struggling with addiction but those struggling with almost anything.
That was one of the best tributes I’ve watched about Matthew Perry. You really emphasized how he wanted to be remembered and you addressed addiction in a compassionate way.
This is one of those videos that NEEDS to be shared by you guys, not just for great analysis, but the messages that Matthew Perry was certain people are otherwise sure to neglect in taking on board.
I don't really give much attention to most people and things in Hollywood, but Matthew Perry was one of those people I really appreciated and respected. He never stopped trying to better himself, and never gave up. It takes a hardy person to do that throughout so many struggles and setbacks. He legitimately just seemed like a good but troubled person. I hope he passed as easily as possible, and that he can find some truly lasting peace now. I know he's made a huge impact on a lot of people, and I hope he knows that.
I had no idea the struggles he had. Im glad despite his struggle he helped a lot of people. I'm also glad he spoke about how addiction is an illness not a moral failing. When I tried to explain to my own father my addiction he didn't want to believe that what I struggled with was an illness not because I wasn't strong enough to stay sober. I thankfully cut him out of my life and I'm doing better now and I was able to get educated about my disease and celebrate my one year of sobriety.
I listened to the audio version of his book a few months ago. He was scathingly honest, and I believe he has helped and will help so many more people than he could ever have imagined. May his memory be a blessing. ❤️
I'd never seen what he said about how he wanted to be remembered when he died. Such a sad, sad sentence. I'm really glad that this video did what he wanted, at least to some degree. That was incredibly kind of you all to do with your platform.
This video is a beautiful tribute to what Matthew Perry wanted; to be remembered for using his struggles with addiction to help others overcome theirs. Matthew was more than just a *FRIEND* and I am thankful you contributed in such a laudable way. Thank you, The Take!!
I didn’t like that Mathew got a lot of backlash over his honest comments in his autobiography about his surprise over Keanu Reeves still being alive after his own drug addiction issues. Keanu has stated prior that there where moments in his addiction that he thought he wasn’t going to make it, and lost, friends through drug/alcohol addictions. Mathew apologised even calling Keanu personally, Keanu stated he really didn’t have to. Both great men. Rest in peace Mathew..🕊️
I like that because he actually said what he hoped to be remembered for when he died, now thats it's actually happened it's coming true, so he got his wish. Of course everyone is talking about Friends too, Chandler was such a beloved character but I'm glad his wish managed to come true and people are talking about the good he did too.
I was so sad and shocked to hear of his passing. Friends has long been my go-to show when I'm in the depths of my own depression. Chandler has always been my favorite character on the show. Hearing about Matthew Perry's death, I just hope that he knew how many people's lives he truly touched and what a help he was to so many. My mother even made a lovely memorial post for him and pointed out how the character of Chandler, thus Matthew himself, helped me when I couldn't help myself. May he rest in peace. Mrs. Chanandeler Bong for life
Though he was never perfect, he was at least trying to be a good person. What he did for those struggling was good enough to leave us with something more than just Chandler Bing or his movies. His characters made me comfortable with my eccentric and sardonic self, and I am happy the world had him for as long as he did. People will hopefully learn something from him to help them cope with their struggles with addiction and heartbreak.
At the very least, perhaps this shines a light on the struggle of addiction. I have 15 years clean and each and every day I don't pick up is dedicated to those who didn't make it. Rest easy, Mr. Perry.
I think Bojack took people down with him. I’m hoping Matt Perry didn’t, because it seems like he really wanted to help others, even if he couldn’t save himself.
I've never watched Friends. But I have seen him in other things and I loved his acting in them. I have so much respect for the man. It is so sad that he was taken so young. My condolences go out to his family friends and those who are mourning his passing.
I am going to remember Mathew Perry for inspiring me to turn around each day to be better than yesterday, to be motivated to be good to myself any number of times I fail. ❤
I haven’t really been a fan of the show for a while but usually have it on in the background from time to time. But hearing about his death saddens me more than I thought it would. I don’t think I can actually watch the show anymore. It’s just too sad right now. Thanks for sharing this video about his life and legacy ❤
He loved batman and in his book he said he'd send batman signal if anything is wrong which we see in his last couple of Instagram posts , isn't it eerily strange??? Terribly heart broken 💔 Finally be at peace Perry ❤
You know my respect to him because he was very open about it, and he was very poignant about what he was going through and how hard he had to fly, and I will always respect him and love him for that. He was one of the better characters on his show, Chandler was the best his sarcasm. His wet was just phenomenal.
Thank you girls for making this video. It’s a wonderful and really important thing to do. This is using your voice for good, this is making a real impact. I’m feeling very thankful, this is a great tribute to Matthew Perry.
That’s not his mum That’s his step mum His parents divorced when he was less than a year old and his dad went to California to pursue his acting career and his mother took him to Canada as she was Canadian So that photo is from his father’s wedding day
It only just happened a few days ago but it still doesn’t seem real. I was having dinner with my folks, Dad and I were talking in one of the other rooms when my little sister called us in to tell us he died. I’m always shocked when a beloved celebrity dies but this one hit me especially hard not just because be of how young he was but also because I loved him as an actor. I hope he found peace before he passed away, RIP Matthew Perry, Chandler Bing, Benny from New Vegas. You were always the tops babe, ring-a-ding-ding. Could we BE any more sad about this? 💔😭🕊️
tbh i have not enjoyed most of your content over the past year or two. but this eulogy of matthew perry was really well done and it is for moments like these that i stay subbed to this channel.
Perry and Hank Azari, later a guest on the show and a show runner on The Simpsons. Were roommates and friends. I also feel normal when drunk. I quit drinking six years ago. I wonder if he ever tried using hallucinogens for his addiction. Mushrooms really helped me with me drinking.
This is nice, a fitting tribute, and well done. But, this is the kind of thing he needed while alive. Shout out and give tribute to these people (and the people in your lives) while they're here. These things make US feel good when they are gone, but they could make a difference to people who are still alive.
There goes the chance of watching Matthew Perry and Jason Clarke star together as brothers in a movie or TV series. I always wanted them in a show or movie together because they look so identical, almost like twins.
His passing and learning about his struggles lead me to watch the whole show and become a super fan. I didn't get to watch it when it aired in my country due to long working hours. I missed it most of the times. I loved him in Fools rush in and in The Whole nine yards. He was hilarious. And so good looking. What a pity that his drinking problem actually was the cause for him not being cast more often. I believe that Jen and himself were the two with the potential to be a hit in motion pictures, which Jen actually managed to become. Adicctions are not a disease. They're the consequence of trauma. A disease is something you can't reverse. Addictions can be.
It’s really fucking sad that he’s gone. It seems real like it’s somehow not real like he can’t be dead Matthew Perry was young and objectively younger people know he’s not that young, but they don’t think 30s young either so realistically we’re all ancient to them, but Matt Perry it seem like he had actually beaten it, like he had gotten me up her hand on his addiction and it’s so sad that it does appear that that’s what’s happened as his addiction one and any anyone who’s ever struggle with the diction myself included can tell you it’s an exhausting battle, it is so exhausting to constantly have to fight your own mind about what you wanna do because you know objectively it’s the worst idea to listen to your own brain. I really hope that it does turn up that something else happened and it wasn’t alcohol or drugs that took him out, because that just makes his story that much more tragic. It would be so much better if he had an embolism or something or a blood clot and something natural, not an overdose or an accidental drowning, but if anyone struggling with the similar addiction that Matt Perry had alcohol and opiates, please please please please please for the love of everything in the universe don’t ever stop working on your treatment. Please continue to fight because we’re now seeing that. Potentially you may never win, but don’t ever give up that fight
Sexual/porn addiction is an area that needs to be talked about more….lots of people suffering and battling…those are the people most afraid to come forward and it’s a shame
He was also Oscar Madison in the 3rd live action odd couple series which is the 4th overall odd couple television project cause there was a short lived animated series called the oddball couple but u could tell cbs lost faith in the odd couple after its first season cause it only got 2 more seasons before it was cancelled to soon
Not sure what that clip was you were using but it wasn’t from West Wing…. Unless I haven’t seen something from the show I literally watch every night for the last 5 years
Chris Farley: There's some discontent amongst the men; half feel you are cold and distant, the other half believe the initial high-minded ideals of this endeavor have been abandoned for quick and easy profit. Matthew Perry: It's our first night in camp how is there already discontent?
Kinda sounds like he was addicted to “getting help.” Which by the way…… happens to a lot of people. They feel closeness and heard and community and cared for and helped when they are addicted and go to rehab or AA….. so they make sure to relapse to get that feeling over and over and over.
What's annoying about his story is I think of how many people of color have had similar stories but get villainized why is everyone is touting him as this amazing broken soul. Did we forget he was getting awful PR just a few months ago for the nasty things he was saying about people completely unwarranted in his book
What do you mean?? Doesn’t take a genius to realise that Jennifer Anniston and Matthew Perry weren’t born on the same day He was the youngest of the cast
One thing I haven't heard people talk about is what Perry could've tried. He tried all the ways to get sober that are legal in the USA. At some point, you need to try something else. Going to therapy for 30 years is so sad. It didn't work. I don't know if he tried different therapists. AA doesn't work. Very few studies, and hardly any clinical studies (where people are randomly assigned, which is the only real way to test) have been done, and what little independent literature is available says that it works no better than placebo. It's also religious-based, which isn't, again, scientifically tested. If anyone's in his situation, please look into psilocybin, or even better, ayahuasca. For people without heart problems, bipolar, or manic-depressive disorders, they have almost no side effects, but many people have gotten rid of their addiction almost as a side effect of the experience. Do it for real, not as a drug, not for recreation.
