Megadeth is my favorite metal band of all time. But you have to recognize quality where there is. Sting's music is a gift from God to the world, it takes you to high places.
Youre right!!!! My favorite band is AC/DC and love heavy metal,thrash metal but i also like all kinds of music like rod stewart, prince,smokey robinson i sometimes listen to 1930's music I LOVE MUSIC!!!!!!!
Fun fact: the drummer for stings band , the legendary Vinnie Colaiuta (who was also a member of frank zappas band) recorded the drums for Megadeths album the system has failed.
Talented and highly energetic artists often hame strong opinions about things. I mean, opinions that you wouldn't expect from someone who is capable of creating deep and powerful songs - superficial, offhand and what have you. His musical taste is actually quite diverse if you dig through his bio, so it's probably more of an artistic disagreement. Sting paints a romantic world where everything is comparatively lovely and chill, and Mustaine...well, I think you know what he is about in that sense.
People are allowed to like and dislike different things, you know. Very pathetic of you to presume Mustaine has a limited musical palette simply because he doesn't like an artist that you like.
I always find it refreshing when metal musicians talk about other kinds of music from outside their usual 'bubble' and at least recognise that other kinds of music exists. Dave wasn't too enamoured, for the majority of this video, with Sting's lyrics but you could tell at the end he has a lot of respect/ appreciation for his bass playing and The Police. When guys just make out that like they're 'all metal', or indeed are 'all metal' and just think everything else is crap, they're pretty dumb by my reckoning. I, honestly, really like hearing metal people talking about non-metal music (and I don't mean just Nine Inch Nails or The Prodigy as that's, pretty much, to be expected). Hearing Lemmy and Ozzy saying The Beatles were their idols was great and seeinf the video of Ozzy being introduced to Paul McCartney, for the first time, is amazing (I recommend you seek that one out). It works the other way around, too. I liked it a lot when I heard members of The Arctic Monkeys talking about their love of Black Sabbath.
Yes, no great metal musician listens to only metal. Sometimes i'm really suprised what they listen to. I recently watched a RU-vid video of Phil Anselmo talking about The Smiths, that was pretty cool because The Smiths and Pantera are both favourite bands of mine.
I like all kinds of music, there’s more stuff I do like than don’t like. I just hate anything that sounds too cheesy, bubblegum, poppy, or boring, no matter what genre.
Nobody listens to "just" metal, Even if they say they do. Eventually you will always hear a song that you'd like which isn't your typical genre. The greatest death metal, heavy metal drummer to ever live was inspired by stevie wonder which speaks for itself lol
@@user-fd5gp4xv4z When you check out youtube channels like Ruthless Metal, the way that guy talks and the way some of the guys in the comments talk, they seem to hate anything not-metal. Even 90's alt-rock/metal like Nirvana/ Tool/ Alice In Chains. Kirk Windstein out of Crowbar is a massive 70s disco music fan. I found out in a video of him choosing his top 10 albums of all time. I like Donna Summer's I Feel Love and a couple of songs by Candi Staton in the disco vein, too. And who can deny that ABBA are a fantastic band. I don't think Tobias Forge out of Ghost would argue with that, having covered I'm A Marionette and seemingly striving for some kind of ABBA like melodies in his own songs.
@@carpenoctem775 Yep. Commercial and formulaic are 2 pet hates of mine, too. Which I've always thought was kind of weird. I mean, people write commercial rock and pop with the intention to appeal to as many people as possible, in order to sell as much as possible. So why don't I like it? Ha. Not only do I not like it but the merest whiff of the notion that the writer is trying to write something commercial (which usually involves sticking to some kind of tried and tested formula) is the minute I either want to turn it off or leave the room. I don't believe everything has to be super original either but I have some weird tastes e.g. I prefer course sung Thrash like Sodom to clean sung, or even technically brilliantly sung stuff and I don't know why that is. I hate amazingly gifted, near operatic, type singers too. I also like 'epic' but it needs to have a layer of some kind of grit or grime to it too. Like Bathory or Enslaved: yes. Kamelot and Sabaton: no. It's all subjective though. Just like what you like. If you're happy, I'm happy. I would never go around turning off my girlfriend's Michael Buble album, like her idiot ex used to do.
I am a big metalhead I have close to one thousand albums (metal or not) Sting is my second favorite artist after Opeth, Mustaine is also an increadible song writer.
Opeth is my #1, I like Dave a lot but this take is hard for me to understand. I don't want to listen to metal 24/7, I can't understand not being able to appreciate other genres and I don't even like sting.

Absolutely not. Sting is a rock icon, great musician, very famous etc., but Mustaine is one of the top 5 most influential metal musicians of all time. In their respective fields, Mustaine is a lot more important than Sting.
It always amuses me how a lot of times, people who get offended by someone who they feel is acting like a pretentious snob, hit back by actually trying to be even more pretentious and snobbish. So Dave said he didn't like Sting, so now let's crap on his music as well the same way he did Sting's. That'll show him 🙄

LOL Sometimes I think I might just miss they younger mean Dave and the things he used to say. A lot of it was really funny. My favorite is from the early 90s when Megadeth was opening for Aerosmith and when questioned about his band's shortened set he replied "We don't have a long time to play because Aerosmith doesn't have a long time to live". Another time he managed to dis every Nu Metal band in 1995 by saying "King's X is the only band that can tune down and not sound like crap". He would just talk shit all the time but I think it was really for show like the whole Rikki Rachtman thing. Also everyone in Aerosmith is very much alive as of right now and doing fine and Synchronicity II is an awesome song.
@@a.m8878 Well, you said Megadeth is worse than sting, and Megadeth are one of the greatest metal bands ever, so I would assume that you prefer a different genre, hence why you and me have different tastes.
It's all preference, I find Sting boring, he's far from alone. I mean if you are into Megadeth, there is a fair chance you might be very indifferent to Sting.
Yep; uh... reading, and knowing some stuff is TOTALLY boring. No negative judgement against Mustaine's stellar contributions; but anti-intellectualism is a threat to Humanity.
Well he’s not wrong. Sting might be an intelligent person and write introspective lyrics but his music’s rather dull with low energy. I prefer bands like Rush and Pink Floyd instead. Those are my “thinking bands.”
Oh, HAAAAAILLL NO, David Mustaine!! Stings lyric drew us in with their mysterious alure! Synchronicity II is an exquisite masterpiece, with lyrical paintings of the mundane, empathetic and then just eerie! Gordon Sumner is a musical and lyrical master and genius. Dave mustaine is a Musical genius. Lyrically? Not a chance.
Ah dave mustaine there is a reason why every position in the band is a revolving door. But dave will tell you why in some dramatic way. I never listen to anything he says in media he thinks he is the cool one that bashes everyone else.
Dave, the point of the song is what you didn't want to hear. You are not the writer Sting is. Your good I'll admit....but sting had a solo career for a reason. You have a new band every year. You are intellegent but your band mates hate your guts.
Megadeth is Mustaine's solo career. No different. It's his music, his vision. And maybe three ex members tops don't like tops Mustain. Sting never came close to writing anything close to the level of Youthanasia or Rust in Peace.
Sting can be a bit pretentious. They're both important figures in music. Can't you like both as a fan? I know I do. The Police were brilliant, but so is Megadeth
Look folks , Dave Mustaine is sooo FOS as Usual . He wishes he were half as talented of an Artist / Writer / Poet as Sting is . Anybody can have a Yawn fest listening to those Garbage Megadeth Albums full of bad Singing / Melodies / Lyrics on Killing Is My Business So Far So Good So What Risk 13 Super Collider The System Has Failed The World Needs A Hero
