Menopause and ADHD - both associated with impaired cognitive functioning and emotional dysregulation - share a unique and complicated relationship. Anecdotal evidence tells us this in spades, but scientific research is paltry at best. In this hour-long ADDitude webinar with Jeanette Wasserstein, Ph.D., learn what we do know about estrogen, hormonal fluctuations, and menopause in neurotypical women - and how that may help inform clinical approaches for women with ADHD.

As someone who is likely perimenopausal and ADHD (assessment in 2 weeks), I had to watch this on 1.5x and it still felt like it was at "normal" speed. This was a heavy webinar for an audience of suspected or diagnosed ADHD women. I love this topic but wish it had gone deeper. The statistic that she reports about hormone therapy and the link to breast cancer is actually a now very disputed correlation. Anyone who was interested in watching this webinar please pick up The XX Brain by Dr Lisa Mosconi. So good! This webinar is a great example of how little is known about women's health as she repeatedly said we don't know enough. I love that she encouraged going to naturalists. I would love to know more information on how to advocate for yourself with those that help with menopause and ADHD. I love that she says the providers must be a team. Interesting but I would love a more advanced and/or practical webinar on this topic in the future.

thank for this. odd that moat insurances will jot cover peri and menopause therapies. I watched more than a few presentations talking about the hormone imbalance being a main issue for mental health but no one seems to want prevent anything, this system needs us doing useless tests while the basic ones to see the root cause is being denied. i have been to three docs and none of them wants to give me testosterone. this sucks!

If you are interested in learning more about nutrition for ADHD, there’s a whole field now called metabolic psychiatry. It’s worth looking into.

I've been on HRT for almost a year and the low dose estradiol helped my memory problems from the very first day.

i was able to manage my life without meds until before peri menopause, and it has been a decline so significant after having kids, now almost 46 and i feel the impact of a life lived with insomnia, digestive issues, and anxiety because of silly mistakes and blind spots and hypo fixations that caused me great losses, more complex my life became less capable i became to manage, this memory issue is a huge handicap and i felt crazy most of my life and it is getting so much worse, i have tried so many strategies and diets, my life is exhausting 💔

Thanks for this. Also important to note that apparently acidic food and drinks decreases absorption of stimulant medication

Please find other resources for understanding of the menopause. It’s handled far differently, and better in the UK.

Omg! It's such an important topic and well structured by someone.. but what I have heard here made me even more unsure of a bit of " light in this tunnel". It took me 5 attempts to finish this video (yes, Im on both stimulants and non and eat soy and do yoga etc.) .. This outrageous layback attitude "try this try that .......diagnosis doesn't matter" Seriously ??? It's pretty severe drugs we are talking about here btw !! My kidneys, liver and heart are screaming already. Also, where is this idea about finding a "creative doctor "coming from? Do Unicorns exist?

The audio has a ringing sound that I find too distracting to hear. It's a shame!

Oops, soy and flaxseed no no no. These are not natural foods for us, and are not part of our ancestral diet. Saying that they can’t hurt is incorrect. They absolutely can be detrimental to some people.

Why is this doctor reading through slides (as if she’s never seen the information before!) specifically ‘treatment’ and seems to be unsure about information that’s presented? This doesn’t give me much confidence in the information!

Having spent the past few months listening to actual experts on perimenopause/the menopause this sounds like a weakly researched student presentation. Her fear mongering on MHT is infuriating.

It would be a good idea if a person who is schooled in medication management can do this talk instead of someone who specializes in managing other aspects of assessment, diagnosis or treatment. Her knowledge of medications was not as specific as it needs to be for a professional presentation. Perhaps she could speak on the aspects that she treats and helps people with instead of being a non-prescribing psychologist. I'm sure she can present in her area of expertise much better.

It says this woman has a PhD, but in what subject exactly? She does not seem to be a gynaecologist, and is clearly no expert on menopause.

I came here to say that. I had so much trouble focusing, even on my Ritalin!!, So when I realized that it's partly due to that fing noise (and party due to the presenter herself), it really irked me. Seriously, be careful not to have that with this type of audience!?!?

So, she is a psychologist, NOT a medical doctor? She has no training in endocrinology or gynecology….
