Hi Sue I started having hot flushes at 39 and had my last period at 46. Due to endometriosis I couldn’t do HRT peri menopause and had to go through it naturally. Now at 52 I still get the occasional hot flush, but nowhere near my early forties nightmare (up to 15 flushes a day with night sweats needing a during the night shower- it was grim without going into all the worsening of endo and other issues). I’m a bit of a resource for hot flush makeup for that reason 😂. My best tip is the lightest layer you can get away with and a green primer for base. It really does help disguise the associated redness (I like the Daniel Sandler one, but there are many others). Mac F&B is a good choice as it doesn’t really transfer when you blot your face if you also have dry skin. Eye primer is essential and I needed powder in my t zone despite being still very dry. I used the previous version of the Lancome teint idole during that time too and it worked really well. A hand held fan is a necessity to carry around with you and light layers of clothing to enable you to remove as needed. A menthol stick or balm on the back of the neck is super cooling- more cooling than you might expect. Misting with a hydrating spray and then using the fan is blissful. Strong antiperspirant is a must have- for me natural was useless. Baby wipes to wipe down areas of the body whilst in the washroom were invaluable during the worst of it. I hope that helps a few others out there struggling. Best wishes x

Thank you Loraine for the great tips! I definitely need a hand held fan! I like the idea of a menthol stick for the back of the neck too. I forgot to apply my deodorant today (probably brain fog!) I've never been able to use anything natural there. It's a waste of time for me!

Great tips!!! My daughter and I both just get our entire heads wet at night if we can’t sleep from the heat and no matter whether we look good or not in the morning, at least we slept feeling cooler! Thanks again for those tips!! When I’m so hot and nothing else helps, I saturate a folded paper towel with alcohol and put in on strategic spots on torso, underarms etc And when I just want to feel fresher if I’m perspiring, I saturate a thick paper towel with real cold water or even put tiny ice chips in the folds then tuck it under my arm, clamp arm down to hold it there, and then watch television to get calm-extra benefit to that is my underarms are again clean and fresh-since if I just got out of shower, perspiring suddenly, all over again makes me feel so down and even angry-( at the whole cycle) which of course causes more perspiration!! Cool or cold cloth under my arms while sitting still and watching tv , letting my mind wander, works wonders for me and I feel clean again 20 min later.

Great video. I am 62 and had the worst of menopause at your age when I ended up avoiding alcohol and chocolate as they were huge triggers. Fans everywhere and light clothing! Definitely light make up. I welcomed my Canadian winters at that time for sure. I found the emotional upheaval only lasted a year or two and then I was myself again. My sixties have brought me a beautiful grandson (although my daughter was in the fight of her life being diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer at 22 weeks pregnant with him and had to receive chemotherapy - she is cancer free finally). My point is I'm grateful I could summon strength at this time thanks to not being afraid to reach out for help. As I did in my early fifties with menopause. .xo

Hi Debra. Thank you for the heads up regarding alcohol and chocolate! The emotional upheaval is real, for sure. I'm so glad you survived it and now have a beautiful grandson. And, I'm thankful that your daughter is now cancer free. Life can throw the book at us sometimes 😢 I'm trying to stay positive!

Menopause started at 40 for me, and now, at nearly 68, I am still going through it. I feel I am back at the beginning again. I don't where makeup much anymore. ❤

I'm sorry to hear that you're still going through it. Mine has just started, and I can barely cope!!

ToDelanaHealy-- I hope you can pinpoint your symptoms and work on finding a remedy for each of them independently. Yes, I know you’ve probably been doing that for years.. Sometimes if one can find an answer to the worst most bothersome symptom, then the entire situation seems better and not so overwhelming.. Wishing you good health…🌸🌷

@@Fifty-senseOh Sue -SO SORRY to hear this. I hope it gets better. I took HRT ( or was it ERT?) for a few years when I felt so bad. My doc advised me that after a certain number of years, I should not continue, due to risks. My friend who did continue with the bio-identical (hope I got that term right) went on years past the time as I did-she developed cancer of the Fallopian tube, but hers was an unusual case-she had many more unusual problems than any of us have -things you might only find in a medical journal. She came through treatment with flying colors and is in remission over 6 years now-I admire her so much since none of it was easy!

@@KaraLey98 I'm hoping to go onto HRT, but I have a cyst in my left breast that they want to monitor. The doctors believe it's benign, but they want to check it again in April. So until then, I can't take any HRT. Arrrgggggg! These sweats are driving me bonkers.

Hi. I am way beyond this stage but I sweat an awful lot in the heat; always have but it's even worse nowadays. It makes any eye makeup a Panda risk and stinging eyes. I use a very little of some special anti-redness concealer here and there. Thank you for a great video!

Menopause seems to have become a trending topic over the past few years. Before that, nobody seemed to talk about it. Apparently there are about 50 side effects. Is it really that horrific? I’m not quite there yet, but I think I’m in full blown perimenopause. Swollen ankles, broadening feet, weight gain and waking up once a night to twinkle. Primers and colour correction and richer moisturizer seem to be my friend during “the change”.

My hot flushes have been the worst. I get them mostly at night, occasionally during the day. The struggle is real!

@@Fifty-sense I’m older than most of y’all who comment on here but my hot flashes never ceased-but probably having Northern European heritage makes me more uncomfortable in our climate here (I’m in US on South Atlantic Coast) Thank heavens for the breeze from the ocean or I don’t think I could stand it.. prefer a colder climate year round-not with snow 4 months of the year of- but maybe just living 500 miles north of where we are now. It’s awful of me to complain though when I think of what previous generations of women had to endure-cooking with no central AC or even room AC.. Fans are most important of all bc several docs have told me the air **needs to be moving** for human comfort unless it’s nice and cool/cold. Even my dentist told me this!!!🤔😎 Even now in February, the hot flashes persist-ruins the experience of a second cup of tea etc,, so I turn on the air conditioning for tea or coffee😂 😊

@@KaraLey98 I sleep with a fan on the whole night! The only problem is that we have a very corrupt government here in South Africa. They haven't maintained the electricity generators over the years because the money has all gone into their coffers. So we have power cuts frequently for hours at a time. And when that happens , I can't run the fan!!! AARRGGGHH!!! Then, I just want to scream!! I still wake up about 10 times a night, regardless. So that doesn't help my mood the next day!

Something is happening to me. Clarins super restorative night cream used to feel too rich and heavy, now my skin eats it up!

This sounds serious. I would monitor the situation, and if it persists, go back to your Clarins counter and get some more cream! You can thank me later 🥰😁

My mascara inevitably winds up on my eyelids due to my hooded eyes. Waterproof mascaras don’t seem to help. Ahhh . . . The joys of getting older.

A great video because of all the ways to accentuate the eyes which a I desperately need!! I🥲Though I’m a little afraid of products which aren’t hypoallergenic, but the only way to find out is to just try them-unless i could find a channel or person who would make a point of mentioning whether or not these things which go around the eyes are more or less irritating… Anyway thank you for packing so much info into one video!🌸🌹

Hi Kara. Fortunately I don't have overly sensitive eyes. I do wear contact lenses and I am allergic to Maybelline mascara. But I seem to be able to get away with most things around my eyes xx
