In recent years Sahyadri range of Maharashtra has now become popular with adventure enthusiast especially trekkers, rock climbers, photographers, and nature lovers. However, the remoteness of some of the locations, the difficulty of technical climbs and dangers of wilderness have led to serious mishaps, at times even fatal ones, creating a sense of fear among the masses.
In a most unique initiative in Maharashtra close to 500 trained mountaineers from the region have come together to volunteer to rescue those caught in a mishap. This process that been coordinated by Giripremi which has established the Maharashtra Mountaineers Rescue Coordination Centre’ (MMRCC). In the webinar Umesh Zirpe Senior Mountaineer from Giripremi shares how MMRCC has taken shape, examples of work being achieved and challenges MMRCC is facing.
