Triund - a stunningly beautiful alpine meadow at 2,850m in the Dhauladhar range, has in recent years become a popular location for trekkers. Unfortunately the popularity resulted in a massive garbage built up. Waste Warriors has since 2012 adopted an ongoing clean and awareness drive to safeguard the ecosystem of the location. Inspite of sustained efforts by the Waste Warriors team it was not enough to prevent the authorities in withdrawing overnight camping as a solution. In this webinar, Etosha Chatterjee chronicles the story of Triund which serves a reminder to all stakeholders that if we disregard the environment it will result in more and more locations getting closed for camping.
Etosha Chatterjee works with Waste Warriors as the Outreach and Partnerships Manager in Dharamshala. Hailing from Kolkata, Etosha has been associated with Waste Warriors for the past year. An avid traveler, trekker, she has been traveling across the Himalaya for the last many years. The increase in the garbage situation in the Himalaya was the trigger for Etosha to quit her job in the IT industry 4 years ago, and work towards sustainable travel and waste management in the Himalaya ever since.
