Nanda Devi (7816m) and her sister Sunanda Devi (Nanda Devi East - 7434m) have grown taller, more daunting and almost legendary, shrouded in an intricate veil of mythology and folklore woven around them over the years. Eighty one years to this day, on July 2, 1939, a Polish team completed the first ascent of Nanda Devi East.
Seventy five years later, in June-July 2014, a small, lightweight and semi-alpine style expedition led by Anindya Mukherjee succeeded in climbing Nanda Devi East (7434m) in the Kumaon Himalaya. Four members of the team summited the peak on 4th July, 2014. This was only the 12th ascent of the peak out of 28 expeditions undertaken in the past 75 years.
Anindya has been closely associated with Nanda Devi East for several years now. In this webinar he shares the climbing history of the mountain and the key challenges of climbing this iconic peak.
