I just bought MPC One and I have just started learning, this one and all the other tutorials are exactly what I need right now - great job, thanks! Keep 'em coming please!
You take your precious time to help us 🤘🏼 your the man. I still say you give private lessons 😳🤑 haha. I've been a musician years, guitar bass drums Etc. I always wanted to go to school for audio engineering... anyway don't mean to ramble. So jumping into the Akai MPC one is just a monster, I'm having fun with it although I do have a lot of trouble figuring things out. Your channel means so much to me as I'm sure lots of other musicians. Just want to say thank you.
I appreciate that. I work full time at a hospital and record RU-vid videos and am working on a massive multiple hour course on the MPC One. This leaves me with very little time right now. Someday soon I might open up to private lessons, but I want to help as many people out as I can with the time I have right now. Thanks for your interest.
Looks like if we order it we're gonna be waiting at least a month. Everyone is out of stock except for a couple amused ones. If you already own the software that may be an option for you. But I'm knew to MPC so I gotta buy it new. Which company do you think would eventually ship the fastest? Some sites are saying June, some the end of May, Sweetwater doesn't say anything but pre-order. I really wanna get it but I don't wanna wait two months for it. 😨
I had an order in with sweetwater because they had the earliest date and had a bundle with cables and they called me and gave me an earlier date...then guitar center got them in so I cancelled my order with sweetwater and went with guitar center. Just got to keep checking back I guess.
Hey guys is the live better its running the same built in daw/firmware and its touch screen with a battery? And if I don't have to wait a few months to buy one I'd fork out the 300 difference? Assuming its in stock? Haha
Hi, love your videos, very well explained. I'm new to this so wondered if you could help, my set up is being constructed, it goes turntable (no preamp) to akai live (used as a pre amp) with phono, then through to yamaha hs8 speakers (amp inside) with jacks....I feel somethings missing as there's NO SOUND 😆 help plz.. What have a I foolishly missed?
Wow, half of the video tutorial is about how to connect an 1/4" adapter to an RCA cable (with close-ups!) then making sure the right channel is connected to the right input and the left to the left input (again, with close-ups!) . Genius!
Good lesson Man! What would you recommend to sample from a turntable having a MPC STUDIO instead? It only has MIDI IN - MIDI OUT ports... Id love some light, thank in advance!
Hey Matt I have a question. Is it possible to hook up a tascam digital 8 track to the mpc one or what is the best way to perform vocals without a computer
Would this method work with akai MPC Studio, MIDI? i would need a audio innerface. or i wouldnt have no need for that? direct drive turntable and dj mixer and mpc all i need...
How do I make the audio play through from my input while at the same time using the drum kits? I can only either play audio from my pt-01 or my drum pads, not at the same time currently.
Hi Matt...I am trying to hook a synth (deepmind) to mpc one..so basically when the synth is played..midi in works and it is recorded in the sequencer...however when I play it back the synth doesn't make a sound ..I can see midi out on mpc is blinking too...I have tested the synth and it works when midi is sent to it from a DAW ..but not with mpc...would you know what maybe causing the problem...I would really appreciate your help man
Yes. You have to make sure you have your input switch set to the RCA inputs on the MPC Live. If your turn table has a pre-amp built in you just need to make sure you have it turned on before plugging into the line inputs of the MPC One. Otherwise you need a preamp or mixer or something similar to turn the turntable signal into line level.
I have my MPC live 2 plugged into my lp120 and I can’t hear the record player for when I mmmm trying to sample. The bars are moving so it’s definitely inputting the sound But I can’t hear what I’m sampling until I clip it?
I had an order in with sweetwater because they had the earliest date and had a bundle with cables and they called me and gave me an earlier date...then guitar center got them in so I cancelled my order with sweetwater and went with guitar center. Just got to keep checking back I guess.
Hey Matthew, curious if you could help me. I have my record player plugged directly into my MPC One, then my MPC plugged into my computer. I have a scarlett solo with speakers connected to it. The scarlett is also plugged into my computer. What setting am I missing that I can't get the record player sound to come through my speakers? I have my record player on line output. Thank you for all your help!
If you have your turntable plugged into the MPC you need to go to the settings and set the MPC as your audio interface, you can also plug your speakers into the MPC outputs.
I have all the right cables but when I hook it up it says waiting for signal. I could use a little help. I hooked it correctly with all the right cables but it isn’t working. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks
I just connected my Adam speaker monitor to my mpc one but when I connect both main level input in the signal is weak and low but when I leave only the red main level input the signal is strong and the music is loud Any help??
Is there any books that could help me? I I'm going to purchase the MPC Bible once my MacBook arrives, also I have my eyes on a college course audio engineering text book... do you think that would help?
The MPC Bible is good. I also have an online course that will soon be available with many hours of information about the MPC One that might help. I have bought college course audio engineering text books. I they can help, but it really is a lot of stuff and is time consuming. So it depends on your goals. If you are trying to learn how to use the MPC One it likely will not be as helpful as you may think to get started.
It isn't really designed to be a mixer. You can plug a synth into the inputs and monitor through an audio track or the sampler. Like this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-L1zKhwTv93k.html
Excellent explanation Matthew. When using a turntable for sampling, do you think it is worth the extra cash on a $500 unit rather than a $150 one? I'm thinking that most of us add effects (esp. for Lofi), the better quality of a more expensive unit won't really matter.
Honestly I bit the bullet and went for a $150 unit. Ultimately it’s drastically better than what I was using before (RU-vid) and I can upgrade in the long run. Sampling vinyl and crate diving is going to make production much more of an experience and a black box of patience and exploration so i would say man just get your foot in the door
@@c0nsumption lmao i was high when i read your first comment but i under now. And yeah the unit itself doesn’t matter necessarily just for sampling. If i were you i’d look into upgrading the needle before buying a whole ‘nother deck
@@c0nsumption if you do end up upgrading your actual deck, make sure its direct drive. I like the audio technica lp120 series. If you need something portable to take to the record store or a homies house to sample, check out the numark pt-01. I think they make one that has a crossfade as well if youre into scratching
The MPC One has line levels. So it is best to use a mic preamp to plug your mic into and plug the mic preamp into the MPC One. But, yeah, you can record vocals into audio tracks or sample them in the sampler if you want to.
Hey Matthew, can I use the amplifier I use to play my records as the pre amp? I was told I could hook up to the phone jack then to the Mpc to sample. Just wanted to know your thoughts? My turntable is an vintage technics 1900 and my amp is vintage too. Thanks!
The plastic is still on your touched screen. It's still on mine too. I have yet to see an MPC One video with the plastic removed. I dare you to remove yours and make a video doing it. Bahahahahaha
Hello. I have taken the plastic off of one of my MPC Lives and it doesn't really make that big of a difference in responsiveness as far as I can tell. I am constantly moving my MPC One around so it is unlikely that I will be taking the plastic off of the screen any time soon.
@@skylerdarkavelifinesseflow7115 Per the PT01USB Users guide: Master Output (RCA): This line level output is for connecting the PT01USB to the input of an external audio device such as a DJ mixer, tape recorder, CD Burner, PA system, powered speaker, or a home stereo. The level of the master stereo output signal is controlled by the audio level control. According to this you just need to connect cables to the line out of the PT01 and then connect them into the MPC One, or to the line level inputs of what ever audio interface you are using. Then set your levels. Cables like these should work: amzn.to/3bttOkn
@@MatthewStratton I actually did that.. Worked for 5 seconds didnt unplug ANYTHING and there's nothing going on. I have THE WORST luck with this stuff man. I'm about to just give up
@@skylerdarkavelifinesseflow7115 You need to troubleshoot. Test your Turntable, does it work? Then test your audio interface, does it work? Test your cable, does it work? This is a normal part of working with audio gear. Keep testing until you figure it out.
The 2000xl doesn't have RCA inputs for turn tables. So you would need to have a turn table with a preamp or run your turntable through a mixer and send a line signal out to the MPC.
The MPC One doesn't currently accept USB audio devices (at least non that I have tried). So you would have to see if it is compatible with the MPC software and use the MPC software to record and use the MPC One in controller mode. Or you can record the samples on your computer and then import them onto a external device like and SD card and load the samples into the MPC One from there.
@@MatthewStratton My Technics is connected with the Mpc One. I am not excited, but confused about the video. Without LOL. Because it is a serious answer. with best regards from Vienna
@@michaelvrbatka4441 The !!! in you comment is throwing me off. The answer is there are no phono inputs on the MPC One. Only Line Level inputs. Depending on you turntable you may have a LINE LEVEL output. Sounds like that is what you are using instead of the Phono Level output. Example: Technics SL-1500C has both Line Level and Phono Level outputs. To get the best signal with the MPC One you should use the Line Level outputs.
Why don’t you use the rec-out of the mixer? That way you don’t have too loud volume when gains are set to high. Being a DJ, I shouldn’t use the master out, maybe that’s just me 🤷♂️
I don't see a rec-out. There is a Master out, and a Booth out. The Master Output is = Master Output: 2 x 1/4" / 6.35 mm TRS. Booth output is: Booth Output: 2 x RCA. As someone who wants to sample and use the mixer as a preamp/equalizer, it makes since to use TRS cables rather than Booth out unbalanced RCA cables. I understand that the booth output has a lower amount of gain that can be applied, but the master gain can be adjusted (as well as your channel gain) so there is no reason to set the gains higher than sounds good on the MPC. Maybe there is something technical that I am missing, if so please do explain. If you have your turntables setup for your set and just want to run a line out of the booth outputs, I can see where you are coming from.
$800.00 but not enough in/outputs? Ain't that a bitch? I'm debating on getting an MPC one. I have the same setup with MPC1000. With a mixer + mpc one + TT now I have to go get it..
