Lets check out the awesome James Valentine signature model from Music Man! Music Man Valentine: www.music-man.... Links: Facebook: / riffsandbeards Twitter: / riffsandbeards Instagram: / riffsandbeards Ask.fm: ask.fm/RiffsAnd...
The lead starts on the natural 4th (or 11th) of the first chord. However, since the chord progression sounds like it's based in a Lydian mode, that natural 4th is really supposed to be augmented to sound pleasant to most listeners. Playing along at home, the upper "funky" chords seem to be in the dominant key to the chords on the other rhythm track which is probably what causes some of the more nasty clashes. Basically, all tracks are in different keys and/or modes and because of that sounds great on their own but not as much together :/
I actually prefer the old OLP models to the Sterling line and they cost nothing. Really fantastic after a small amount of work like adding new pickups and sanding down & refinishing the neck.
I love the shape, it amazes me how many variations there are on the double cutaway style guitar, some of them look a bit funky to me, but this one just looks right
The body is cut like a wedge, thicker on the bottom and thinner on the top so it naturally wants to hug your body. No need for a belly carve. Love mine in Trans Black. Neck is feels Awesome!!!
I'd like to see a review on the armada- don't really hear much about them. I don't have a ton of experience with ebmm guitars but I will say that the st. vincent I tried was really nice. The rosewood neck felt like sex, but I hated the pickups for metal (they sounded good for other stuff though).
It's like a blend of both Fender & Gibson, with the tone that is. Got that liquidy strat tone & with the drive, it has that Gibson vibe. It even looks like a blend of both.
I just got the Valentine BFR model, with the flame maple top. It's the best made guitar I've ever seen. I generally play Gibson, but this is a cut above every brand I've seen. The satin neck is perfect and it sounds fantastic. Expensive at $3700usd but worth it.
Hey: Nice looking guitar and review. To me it looks like a double cut version of the axxis is this true? Also most youtubers whether there're reviewing guitars fishing gear or whatever like to review what they like and catches their eye regardless of price and let you make your own decision on weather or not to get it. P.S. I think most youtubers are looking for a good deal as much as the rest of us are. Thanks
I have that same problem with guitars making me play differently. My ESP F series makes me play grinding metal, while I outright cannot bring myself to play metal on my Ernie Ball. Tune it to B Standard, do whatever I can, it all does not matter. When I pick up my Ernie Ball, I always end up playing mellow stuff. Curse you, Ernie Ball!
Fantastic review!!! 👍🙏I’m a strat player. Now I’m thinking of getting another axe next to my Strats with higher output for playing some classic rock stuff but being versatile at the same time. There is a Valentine with trem and a Luke III for sale. I really like the appearance and the tonal options of the Valentine better, however, I’m afraid that the single coil bridge would not satisfy my needs. Should I go for the Luke III or you think that the Valentine can produce enough gain and output for playing classic rock (not metal)?
liked the demo thanks :) .. at the risk of combing my beard a bit to hard .. it's coil SPLIT not TAPPED. mind you some people seem to derive too much pleasure in informing others of what is a simple human mistake. Maybe we should just say both coz no one makes tapped overwound single coils anymore right?
Hey Fluff, I apologize for the off-topic and hopefully you reply to early comments. So being a bedroom guitarist I recently found out about the inexpensive Panama amps and I just wanted to ask you which of their amps' sound signature appeals to you the most?
George K. I wouldn't recommend Panama, if you buy direct from them it takes FOREVER to get your order. They're mediocre but I could suggest the Peavey Valveking MH or full amp head, Peavey 6505 MH, or the Orange CR120
Josue Samaniego I guess they can't keep up with the demand, but I was actually looking at deals on reverb. I'm really digging the Inferno's tone, even if it'd blow out my room's windows and get the police called on me.
It's a different sound from Panama, but my gosh, the Tubemeister series from Hughes and Kettner are absolutely terrific and great for bedroom stuff - Fluff did a great vid on the Grandmeister Deluxe 40, and Agufish did an awesome one on the Tubemeister 40.
***** I really liked your Panama demos, but all right - thank you both for the feedback and honesty, I'll reconsider and try to find a deal on a Peavey or H&K. Cheers from Bulgaria!
I don't understand why everyone we used to watch only reviews extremely expensive gear now. Most of us are not professional RU-vidrs and Musicians and aren't thinking casually about buying a $2000 guitar. I get he loves the guitar and wants to review it but review the Sterling version as well. I'm tired of watching these videos loving the opinion and tone only to find out the thing is $3k dollars and completely out of my budget.
Doug Munis lol I'm really not. It's just you watch this then go to like Rabea's channel and watch him review his new PRS that's $3500. Let's do some decent budget stuff.
Ryan Bruce Thanks for the reply. I appreciate the videos and the opinions, feel like I'm just tired of seeing all this cool stuff and then finding out I can't ever really afford it lol. Someone suggested reviewing the Sterling model of this guitar. I think that'd be a great way to hit both. Curious to know what the extra $1400 gets you.
Price is a tricky thing. Cheap guitars though have never been better in the history of the instrument. Cheap guitars in the 60's were barely functional. I've never made much but I've have several guitars in the $3000 range because I drive a crappy car, don't spend much on food, rent or vacations. We've all got different jobs and priorities. You know you don't have to spend that much to get great tone but if you'd like to then sacrifices need to be made.
Such a great test ! It's a shame Musicman & Sterling guitars are incredibly overpriced in Europe. Like 1000$ = 1800€ ... ! What the ... !?! No way to get your hands on one ...
Why pay $2000 for this when can you can get a used but vintage Les Paul??!! The mind boggles. Also, Maroon 5 really aren't good enough to have a signature model. 🙄🤦🏼♂️
Max Scardanelli because this is built better, a completely different kind of guitar and where do you get a 'real' vintage, pre-Norling Les Paul for 2000 bucks? ain't nobody got timr for that cost cutting 70's and 80s stuff Gibsom brought out if you can get a fresh and high quality guitar like this.
oh and Maroon 5 (however not my taste) are a lot more on the radio than you I bet. That's what decides if you get a signature model, nobody cares if you're the worlds greatest bedroom shredder, your name doesn't sell guitars then.
Max Scardanelli James valentine is a hell of a player. Granted maroon5 has progressively become more and more of a crappy pop band, but valentine is actually a phenomenal player. Why he has a 2k signature guitar when the bulk of their current audience is 15yo girls is a little confusing though...
if youve ever played a music man or a sterling you'll know why you would want this. they play phenomenal and will beat a lot of fender/gibsons for price:build quality
