The bow on the pontoons was awesome. When I got to the end of the video and realized you were launching from Joe Anderson Boat Ramp I was grinning from ear to ear. I lived at Suwannee River Bend RV Park for a year. I just moved back to Jacksonville 6 months ago. Great job!!

@TentFever

@TentFever
@TentFever Год назад
@@chud327 It will take approximately 16 pounds of liquid Marine Foam to fill one 55 gallon barrel. Where do yo get 409 gallons? No barrel can be sunk or crushed. Slice open a barrel from end to end and never know it. You can also have smaller barrels attached in a few place throughout the underside, fill those with foam to then hallow out the inside leaving about 2 inches of foam encasing the inside and cut access doors in floor and you have more storage then you can shake a stick at.

Now if you put a ramp on it that flips over onto the shore you can haul your ATV's on it and use it for crossing rivers or to islands. As a SCUBA diver , I'd put a winch on it to recover things off the bottom of lakes and rivers. Another 2 rows of barrels (like total of 28 of them) and you could park a passenger vehicle on it. Of course the frame would be more substantial. Great video!!!

Sure brings back memories as a youngin , Ma god rest her soul her side of the family consisted of inlaws & outlaws end of fall early winter The whole clan would gather there was usually a 3-4 day hunting trip I think that was the men getting away from the wives an kids 🤣 , an then the next 4-5 days everything was cleaned , processed , some of it cooked / smoked , one downside there was only bathroom in the old house but thankfully we still had a old old outhouse. My Ole Man was a mullet fisherman by trade so there was tons of fish that had to be cleaned along with gulf lobster , Grouper , turtles , Couple deer , 3-4 wild hogs , couple Gators , wild turkeys , I can't tell you how many dozens of squirrels but a bunch 🙄 , we also raised chickens an rabbits so like 25-30 of them would be cooked up , also raised pigs so 3- 4 of them would be culled + them razor back boars , several goats , He had a huge wood smoker man those smoked mullet was the best , there would be one wild boar that was pit cooked , Swamp Cabbage , the women folk cooked non stop for days cracking cornbread, pork skins , pork brains & eggs , hog head cheese ( not that nasty store bought stuff 😖) they also canned up all kinds of vegetables an made jam & jelly's as we had a bunch of different fruit trees , an nut trees . At the end every one had a car trunk load of meat & canned goods to take home . The old folks that lived thru the Great Depression always looked forward to their manatee steaks as a kid it must have been an a acquired taste 😝. It was rare we ever bought meat from the grocer , an the stuff we did buy normal staples we had a tab an The Ole Man usually bartered the biggest part of that off with fresh seafood

Definitely going to have to try this! Just a heads up about filling the barrels with cold dense air - the more air you pack into a barrel the less buoyant it gets. A quick google search on full vs empty scuba tank buoyancy will tell you that the full dense tank sinks and the ‘empty’ tank floats in water because the full tank has more mass, so if you are wanting more buoyancy out of the barrels I believe you’d actually want to seal them while it’s warm out so that the air in them is less dense
@chud327
@chud327 22 дня назад
Good point, however, I like to go to the springs. The water is a cool 72 degrees and the barrels will cave in. I don't recommend high pressure, but just enough to keep the from collapsing. If you check out my first build episode #4, you can see the barrels with big dents. They popped back out once warmed up, but look bad on the underwater footage. Thanks for watching and good luck if you build. Let me know how it turns out.

thats very similar to how i did mine with the rails and half benches. good work guys. i really like that, i also like the springs on the straps. the reason why i left mine open up front was to possibly ferry ATVs to islands. but i gotta admit mini putt is very cool. this summer is gonna be LIT 😎🌞🔥 thumbs up!

Hope you used treated wood. Then used lead primer over the wood, then for the finish color you used marine paint. I used to help my late Father-in-law maintain his 35' Owens, an all wood boat. He taught me a lot, the Owens was a flush decked boat just like a PT boat, just shorter and wider with three geared GM 400 cubic inch marine engines with three speed props. She drew 3' of water empty, 4.5 ' fully loaded with fuel and consumables, and was capable of 45 knots full throttle. What a thrill being at the wheel!

I know of an old man here in Alaska that used barrels for pontoons also. However he cut ports in the topsides of each barrel and then filled every barrel with empty but sealed plastic soda bottles, and then re-sealed the cut out. Just adding a little extra boyancy that can't all fail all at once.

If you fill those drums with that two part foam mix stuff you can get even more buoyancy and no risk of leaking..just a thought..the only bad thing is all that plywood wood around water it won’t last long I would have added some sheet metal for added strength or expanded metal
@davidgillespie9256
@davidgillespie9256 4 года назад
Forgive me if I am wrong, but I believe the buoyancy wouldn't increase as that is an effect of displacement. But the barrels couldn't leak if filled with foam, that would be correct. Also it is pressure treated plywood.
@gunfighterzero
@gunfighterzero 3 года назад
from a guy who has built a lot of stuff, instead of the straps i would have used 1/4" aircraft cable and stainless turnbuckles. you could always go back and check tension and re-tighten them. i would worry about those straps work hardening and snapping..
@chud327
@chud327 3 года назад
1/4 inch ss cable with turnbuckles would be the bomb. It would take a bite out of the budget get stainless steel cable and 16 turnbuckles, but it would be cool. Maybe someday and thanks for watching.
