The kayak is great. But the jury is still out on the Company itself. I’m in the process of acquiring a spare prop, and if I succeed, then all is great, but if not, then I will definitely have an issue with the company. Buying this kayak, to me, is buying an experience that includes customer service and support. Let’s see how that goes. But as for the kayak? In three years it has been great. I’m itching to do a 3 year review too.
The 135 is on my short list along with Coosa FD and Outback. The pedal drives on the other two are what's keeping them on the list, I fish where I need to paddle as much as pedal and those two drives will allow me more pedal time in skinny water. What's your impression of the drive now that you have used it? How about the yak layout and how does it paddle?
Thanks Dick for the view and comment. I really like the peddle system. It's the only PD I have owned so I cannot compare it to others. I don't think it's as fast as the Predator PDL, but it is pretty fast. I fish the Gila often, but this drive is not Ideal for that (8" deep in some spots) If your in 2-3ft deep your good to go. The seat system is what steered me away from the Jacksons. I was eyeing the cuda series but the seat attachment is so chinsy on the jacksons. This seat is comfortable, and is fastened to a rail system. It is not detaching in the event of a rollover.
I have not been in a predator, but being next to one, it seemed a lot faster. But... I've done some experimenting since then. From the beginning, I thought this kayak was a bear to paddle, but thats because i have to have to have the seat all the way forward. It has about a FOOT AND A HALF of slide trac for adjustment!!!! This kayak could accommodate a 7ft person (i think) Well, I had my seat set for peddling. (too far forward) But when I moved it back, and changed the center of balance, lifting the nose, It paddled amazingly better. I could only imagine what it would peddle like of I could reach the peddles in that position. Definitely about a mile and a half faster.
