I also saw that. The worst part of the new Air is that you get just 8 gig of ram and 256 of memory in an 1500€ machine. There are so many other ultra light Laptops that give you for 1000€ 16 gig and 512 of memory.

Yeah I think for a 600€ price difference, the performance uplift of the new one is really negligible. I currently own a 2015 MBP and wanted to upgrade to the new one but pricing is awful so i think I‘ll go with the M1 or maybe the XPS route.

it's a 23% price difference when you compare the price in the USA vs Germany. that is literally just VAT, right? prices don't factor in tax in the USA. it costs about 1300 after California state tax with the base model. the difference currencywise between the USA and Germany isn't so large anymore either, so the prices will inflate from an American company.

Ah well, time to rely on friends and family to get it from the US now. There’s a $700 difference in prices between India and the US 😢

@@spectrent i Still find it problematic even though you can just change the inputs to a swedish layout (I'm from Sweden). You still need to remember which key is åäö, as well as ?+/ And other inputs that sit different on American keyboards compared to swedish

@@spectrent This is exactly how I do it, too. As a software developer, I'm not much of a fan of programming on the German layout, anyway. Symbols like [ ] { } | / are just so uncomfortable with the whole 'Alt Gr' nonsense.

yeah, 256 just isnt enough nowadays. Im also forced to upgrade to the 16gb version making it way too expensive already. I could get a 2tb ssd 32gb ram windows laptop for that same 1500$

$1200 is also the price of the 128GB 2018 Retina Air with a measly Core Y series chip and butterfly kb when it launched. Then within 2 years we got the 256GB M1 Air for $1000. Anyway the M1 Air IS the entry level product, and it remains a good choice for those who have their budgets around $900. This is just the nicer product, like where the entry level $1200 MacBook Pro 13 used to sit as a quality of life upgrade over the base model, to bridge the gap to the top end MacBook Pros.

@@hugowells3052 aim pretty sure it really isn't much different for apple since many of the stuff aren't new , they are just new for the air. not just on the design or chips, but unibody/ materials..etc have been similar for decades I am not mad at apple, but lets be real, they charge high price coz they can and they will and they do charge crazy price, again coz of their branding and they know ppl will buy it. they are a company that if their cost go up 1 cent, they will increase price by 50 dollar when most may just go up 5 bucks. again COZ THEY CAN so good for them I would do the same if I can charge that much, but no need to make it sound like. oh poor apple, its a burden for them lol

You wont get another laptop that powerful and refined for that cash Im pretty sure.. For that money you get a plastic laptop with a rtx 3060 that can play games ok and the battery lasts like 3hours.

@@smokingcat3267 Where I am at, I get a Zenbook with a MX450 for 1500€, a Lenovo Yoga for 1199€ with internal amd graphics and a MSI Prestige with internal Intel graphics for 1400€🤡🤡 The M2 graphics performance is probably better than all the gpus in these laptops, guessing it has about 1.8x the battery life. Not sure about the cpu performance comparison. I dont agree with you.

Yeah I bought one very recently, and am very happy with it since I got the highest end (barring storage) model with the 8 core GPU (no longer available on M1 only M2) 16GB RAM and 512GB Storage, it's a great machine and was cheaper than the new M2 lol.

@@LoveAzeru if they are continuing to sell it in 2022 then they should continue to support it the same amount as they would support a new laptop sold in 2022 and they do generally follow that rule.

Yes, Apple has been warning for a while that general inflation, shortages and Apple being charged $100 more a chip by TSMC has inevitably led to price rises. My electricity bill will be $1000+ extra a year in the UK and I do not get anything new and shiny. Welcome to 2022, the year of inflation.

With 16gb RAM and 512gb you should rather get the 14 MacBook Pro

Anyway a lot of people are failing to remember that in 2018 they launched the 128GB Retina Air with weak Core Y series chips and butterfly kb for… $1200.

You obviously don’t understand how manufacturing works. The new design costs more and it gets paid down over time. The exact same thing happened in 2018 when they previous redesigned it

Its simple, with an ultrawide camera you capture much more of the scene. Like a 360 camera having multiple angles. Though apple did cheat this shot a bit since you can see that the guy talking to Craig's camera is tilted down to make the second shot possible but it make the face shot more awkward and unnatural

All of the changes they made to make iPad OS a fully fleshed-out desktop-class OS were really interesting to me.

Maybe not in laptops but instead a feature added to phones through third party. The problem with laptop camera is that they have to be really thin to make sure the rest of the screen is the same thickness. A phone is much more thicker compared to the screen of a laptop.

It can be done using your current webcam or a GoPro too. Its easy and old technology actually. It was already used by wide angle CCTV cameras. You have to use homography with OpenCV to play with image data.

I think the metal unibody MacBooks would handle that no problem, they are very sturdy.

If the hinge can hold it up, then you'll put more strain on the hinge by opening and closing it as compared to having a static weight there.

The M2 Air is basically what the the MBP 13 2 port used to be from 2016 onwards. A nice new generation quality of life upgrade from the $999 Air (which back then was using years old processors and a horrid TN panel)

About point #2, I respect that you don't think the $200 premium is unreasonable. However, a lot of us do think that, and that's because it's a 20% price improvement for, in essence, an extra Thunderbolt port w/MagSafe and better colour options. The better SOC is mostly an on-paper improvement because it's unlikely you'd doing anything to max out an M1 chip with just 256GB of storage. Last year for $1200, I got a high end Windows (2020 model) laptop with a 6-core Core i7, a full-power and overclockable 1660Ti, a stunning 17.3" screen and 1TB of storage. If I got a M2 MBA with 256GB of storage, I would barely be able to install my software dev tools before running out of space. Even my current laptop from 2020 would be superior in all ways other than battery life and portability - the latter of which, again, isn't that useful if I can't even install all my productivity tools without running out of space. It's even harder to justify the M1 MBA price increase, because GPU market anomaly aside, electronics become cheaper over time, not the other way around. The old M1 MBA was great value and I was seriously considering it as a complement to my laptop for the extra portability - but I'm not considering it anymore. The value proposition is gone.

I said nvidia move cause I have a 3060 Ti which is amazing GPU for the price but when you play at higher resolution which it's very much capable of it runs out of it's 8gb VRAM

nah I don't think it's the RAM. I've done some video editing (which is known to be RAM-heavy) and my MBA didn't even slow down when it came to multitasking.

I use my M1 MBA for audio production with multiple Chrome tabs open and MS Office programs open. No slow down. Must be something going wrong in your system unless one of your programs is using a heap of RAM.

I can have email, Teams, 2 browsers with half a dozen tabs in each, several word and excel files open and I don't notice any drop in performance on mine.

Then they should be called M2 pro and max

As someone who’s had an M1pro since launch and thrown a lot at it.. honestly, if there’s more the M2Pro will be able to do, that’s a bit concerning… because at what point do laptops then start becoming like phones and we’re forced to adopt the dreaded leasing model because of the SIGNIFICANT chip changes each year. Apple needs to slow its roll on chips and keep prices more consistent. If software doesn’t change, there’s only so much more a chip can increase productivity. Otherwise, all that’s going to happen is Apple’s “updates” will force people to purchase the newest chip, simply to have their laptops be functional…

Just because an M2 pro/max chip is going to be better doesn’t mean the M1 pro/max will become obsolete. The UK price includes 20% VAT so it is not comparable. You will need to add taxes in some States to that $1199 US price.
