Your wiring this in a 120v configuration..so if it is a 240 volt installation L2 is a hot wire, (no neutral required). You dont need a neutral to wire this..they are dual 120 240 volt ..just pick your application..good video..just thought i would add this 👍

You did a very good job, on this video. except misleading everyone. When you went to the breaker box. You shut off a double breaker. It was 240 volts. A 240 volt circuit generally does not use a Neutral Wire, unless it's an appliance, that also uses 110 volts. You have 2 hot lines. running at 60 cycles a second. Half of the time one of the lines provide a return path for the current, the other half of the time the other line provides the return path. That's how you get 220 - 240 volts. The wire you called Neutral was Red, indicating it was a HOT line. L1 & L2

Electric heat is costly! Agreed... so I ordered a Mysa. Thanks for the video. The biggest drawback I found with smart devices is my routers must be set in default. Can't change the channel to one my neighbors aren't using, otherwise the device won't connect...

Hey wonderful video! Thanks for providing this. I see a lot of reviews on amazon are having connectivity issues on the wifi side. Have you had connectivity issues with this now that it's been a while? Again your video is so much appreciated. Bought a home a few months ago that is heated using baseboards. Looking into making a good smart device switch.

Thanks!!! And yes I have had issues with the one in the master bedroom. The connection was not to great (I couldn’t even watch videos on my phone without buffering every few minutes) so sometimes it would not connect to the thermostat and sometimes it wouldn’t. I ended up moving my wifi router more towards the centre of the house and that made a big difference. But my problem was my connection not my thermostat. You need a good signal in every room to be able to stay connected to your wifi. Wifi boosters would probably work pretty good if its a bigger house.

@@mr.diyguy9615 I super appreciate it. We ended up buying one and it works like a charm so far. We're going to be installing one or two more in the house.

Hi and thanks for the video. I have an old house and dont have a neutral wire. Is there a work around? For my smart light switches I had to go with lutron casetta ($$) as they dont require a neutral wire. I hope there is a work around. Im on apple homekit. thanks for your time!

I don’t think there is... I just took a quick peek in the manual and I can’t seem to find any other way of setting it up. But that being said I’m not an electrician. As far as I know most smart thermostats require a neutral wire.... Let me know if you do find a way to work around it and how you did it. Thanks

Are you able to check and control your temperature from a different location when your not home via internet?

Yes you can through the app!

Be safe and never use a non-contact power tester for determining if the power is off. Use a multimeter when your safety is concerned. Non-contact testers do not always detect the presence of electricity. They almost always work but that is not the same as always working. Thanks for the video! My power company is offering rebates on this model so I am researching them.

Thanks for the heads up! Never had any troubles yet but definitely don’t want to have that malfunction while I’m working on a circuit!!

Not entirely true. Multi meters fail as well. What I would do regardless of what tester I'm using is to test the tester each and every time. Essentially you test for the presence of electricity you shut it off and make sure it goes away then you turn it on again to make sure you're on the right circuit. I would use the multi if you had voltage issues but to test for voltage a tester like the one you used is perfectly acceptable assuming you take the proper steps.

@@mosesorenco610 It may be true that a multimeter can fail, but they are far more reliable than non-contact testers. Even if one passed initial testing I wouldn't count on it to always determine the presence of power. I agree with your advice to test the tool before each use, but I dont agree that a non-contact tester should ever be used when the actual risk of touching live circuits is possible.

Just installed mine. They are great but the UI has a bit of a learning curve. Also if there is a lot of wiring in the box they can be hard to sit flush.

Hi, I have a Cadet 1000W 240V Baseboard heater with the thermostat on the actual heater. Is there a work around to this?
@mr.diyguy9615
@mr.diyguy9615 2 года назад
Im not sure… Try contacting an electrician for something like that. I think it may be possible but probably cheaper to get a new heater and installing the thermostat separately.
@timrick2
@timrick2 2 года назад
You can either leave the thermostat in, and just turn it to the FULL ON position, (so that it's always on, and your NEW one will provide electricity when it needs it), OR just remove it! There are plenty of videos showing the the correct wiring and connecting.

4:30 What did you call the wire nut ?
@robertsleigh4942
@robertsleigh4942 Год назад
i think it was at 5:50, not 4:30. But he called them "Marretts". A "Marrette" is a trade name (like Kleenex for tissue paper) and it's the name Canadians use for all wire nuts. It is based on the name of the original inventor of the wire nut named William Marr (a Scottish guy that emigrated to Canada in the early 20th Century :)
