In this video, I test the world's smallest* revolver to see if it can be a viable CCW. Let's find out with 5 different tests.
*These tests are meant for entertainment and educational purposes only. Do not try any of these tests at home! Always verify your firearm is rated for and can safely fire any ammunition that you intend to use. Always follow standard safety procedures when handling Any firearm.

Ok, real world experience. I was a peace officer for close to 30 years. One of my additional duties was running the officer involved shooting team. I investigated every shooting by an officer, on duty, off duty, and accidental. An officer was effecting an arrest of a combative suspect that took the officer to the ground. The suspect was trying to get the officer's handgun, and was in the process of succeeding. The officer managed to get a NAA .22LR pistol from his shirt pocket and shot the suspect in the face. The suspect immediately grabbed his face and rolled off the officer, all the while screaming in pain. The suspect was dead in under 30 seconds. I attended the autopsy of the suspect as part of my investigation. The bullet entered the left eye at near contact distance and penetrated into the suspect's brain. The cartridge used was the CCI Stinger. I too carried the same type of weapon in my shirt pocket as well, and decades later, it is clipped in my front pocket. The model I have has the folding "holster/ grip, and its loaded with Stingers as well. This weapon is not a "center mass" type. Its a "face shot" type, and is effective when used accordingly. Its not designed for fast reloading, and it would be stupid to think so. Further, it was not designed for bullseye competition. It was designed for extreme close proximity and predominantly to the head/face. To some, this sounds brutal or gruesome, but I assure you that lethal close combat is not a video game. Its an all out fight to survive. And I managed to walk away from three shootings during my career because I was determined to go home at the end of my shift. Is this tiny pistol a primary carry weapon? Of course not. Mine rides in my front pocket, clipped in for easy deployment if I can't get to my 1911A1 in 45 Auto. In closing, when used properly, this is far better than your bare hands.

Who knows why but I said you know my wife and I are trying to make a family... He said, "No, a little protection." He handed me a NAA mini revolver in 22LR. "Take it", he said "Just in case..." I know an officer who saved his life with one of these he kept in his pocket while on duty. He was ambushed and kept his gun from being drawn while retrieving the 22. Upon bringing the little revolver to bear against the attacker's temple it did not penetrate the skull. The bullet zipped around the man's head under his scalp - it literally performed an around-the-world on this guy's skull. That was enough to end the struggle for his primary weapon. Since the encounter the deputy upgraded to the longer cylinder version of this same pocket revolver so that the more powerful cartridge will provide the power to penetrate a skull at point blank range. There's little doubt in his mind this encounter would have been fatal for him, without the revolver.

My brother is a retired LEO. Most all the murders he has had to respond to were committed with a .22 LR, but about a quarter of those murders were from .22 shorts based on the dropped ammo, casings found at the scene and after catching the perp. A 9mm can skirt under the scalp if it hits a thick forehead and come out the back, or if it hits at an oblique angle. So, just because an officer told you one story about it skirting around the skull doesn't mean they all will. Hit just above the upper lip, below the nose and it's an instant deletion of the victim, or through the eyes, ear or temple where the skull is weakest (thinnest). The weapon that fires it also matters. My .22 "Youth Rifle" with 16" barrel puts a short through 1/2" and 3/4" plywood at 25 yards with no problem. Barrel length does matter. Then again, we're talking about this little revolver... those are more often used at point blank range anyway and the purpose of self-defense is not to kill, but to stop the threat. If popping someone in the skull and it pulled the "round-the-world" path, the threat as you said is going to take off. People, especially thugs, don't like getting holes punched into them and generally will flee as soon as they can.

My lil pocket pistol is a last line of backup defense following my Ruger LC9s Pro CCW with 124gr V-Crown's. The NAA derringer was meant to be a last ditch "GET OFF ME!" gun for sure but I just toss it in a pocket & forget about it. Here’s the scenario, your in a Speedo and flip flops walking through a Democrat run city to get a Subway sandwich at 2AM. As a law abiding citizen the cops will happily arrest you for the crime of not being defenseless. Q: What weapons do you take? A: NAA revolver next to Captain Willy and a potato in the back of your shorts. The potato isn’t a weapon but protects from attacks from behind as nobody behind you will want to touch you. As you can see, in this and only this situation the NAA revolver is the perfect choice.

It is highly specific but in that unlikely turn of events it might work. You could then use it like the up the sleeve derringers in the Wild West movies

Grandma always claimed 22 short hollow points out of her bolt action rifle were best for rabbits in the garden. Long rifles tended to zip right through and then the rabbit would run off and die somewhere you had to wait until smelled to find it but the 22 short hp didn’t and more often then naught it would be within a few steps of where it was put down if not still in the same place.

We own the .22lr model...these guns are marvelously crafted, reliable, totally concealable...they are also difficult to shoot well, fast reload ain't happening, uses small bullets...the ideal range for deployment is getting snot or earwax on the muzzle and letting her rip...even the .22 short can be very effective at that range...a huge advantage, surprise is still taught in tactics 101...it is the narrowest of niches, but no firearm fills it better...under 4 inches long, about 4 ounces, it beats harsh words and a sharp stick...

Novelty. That's why NAA used to roll them out in limited batches. Add a bit more length and you can have the 22LR, a bit more for 22WMR, a bit more with longer barrel, etc., etc., et al. Belt buckles, folding grips, target versions... but the cutest thing is an NAA in 22 short with the lanyard ring on a key chain. That's the 2nd smallest thing I've ever seen drive women wild.

I have the same .22 short model as a revolver companion piece to a similarly diminutive Astra Cub semiauto, also in .22 short. They are great conversation pieces at the range. Two things that are kinda spooky with this and several of the other NAA revolvers is that the short barrel means your fingers get awful close to the muzzle when removing or installing the cylinder pin. Also it has safety notches in between chambers for carry, but those involve manipulating the tiny trigger and hammer when loaded so it requires significant caution.

These are “belly guns” or a “gun of last resort “. I don’t know anyone that owns one that use it as their primary CCW. It’s thrown in a pocket or boot and a last resort weapon. Period. The entire grouping and speed of reloading tests are kinda moot. Anyone that get one of these as a primary carry is already lost. They are range toys and belly guns.

Believe it or not the NAA pistols are very high quality. They each have a different focus point. Note that those three were pretty close. They are accurate up to about 20 yards but you really need to practice and know where each one lands and adjust. Thumbs up if you daw hickock hit the gong with the 22wmr pug at full distance. Another thing to understand is that these little pices are louder than a 12 gauge. There are definitely better options but it certainly is better than nothing. Some 6 thousand through mine and just one single malfunction.

Had one in .22 WMR. Nothing more concealable to be sure. But I eventually got rid of it. At a distance of about 3 feet, the point of impact was a foot high and left of point of aim. I noticed the end of the barrel was not cut square and shipped it back to NAA. I don’t recall if they rebarreled it or just squared it up, but when I got it back it was no better. I realize it’s really only good for an in-your-face encounter, but that was unacceptable. Bye-bye.

@robnorth8514
@robnorth8514 27 дней назад
Keep in mind that the 22 has more kills attributed to it than any other handgun caliber. That little revolver isn’t meant to use at any range. They are meant for use if someone is right on top of you. Also consider the penetration. If if goes as deep as like a 9mm, you really have to be conscious of what beyond your target. One of the worst things that can happen is you may have a “justification” for use of deadly force but then your bullet hits an innocent person walking down the street. Now you have the legality of that. That being said, I still would recommend a 22 short for all the reasons just mentioned in this video.
