Another repair to a Citiz Krups Nespresso Machine, slightly different to the one I repaired previously. This video answers some questions that were put to me about the previous repair, such as can the repair be done without removing the lower cover. Hope this video helps you to save the €90.00 that Nespresso wanted just to LOOK at my machine that was just two weeks out of warranty.

Great video James. My machine was leaking coffee not water into the drip tray. I blindly ordered and fitted a new brew unit only to find that it still leaked coffee. After much puzzling I realised that the black plastic spout has two routes for the coffee to take. The main one and a secondary channel underneath that catches drips. They both send coffee out of the spout and into the cup. The lower channel is quite tight and had become blocked with coffee grounds. Once the channel was full with coffee it would back up and leak into the drip tray. Cleaning the channels with a pipe cleaner solved my problem. My machine is at least 8 years old and was caked internally with old coffee grounds so I'm glad that I changed the brew unit anyway. It is now operating like a new machine. Thanks again for the video; without it I would not have attempted to investigate the problem. Incidentally, I realised while dismantling that the loop of wire that you had to tuck into the side of the machine at 17:04 gives enough slack to remove the brew unit without fully separating the machine from the base. You just have to undo the four oval head screws that hold the actual coffee machine to the base. This allows you to lift the machine just enough to remove the side panels without disconnecting any water pipes or electrical connections.

@@robertomanzo2913 Not without taking it all apart again Roberto. If you look at James' other video "Nespresso Repair leaking" you can see him remove the spout that I am talking about at 11:45. You can only see the two channels from the inside the spout.

Hi James, many thanks for taking the time to post that as it was very useful. I think you need to have a certain amount of practical skill to tackle this so not for everyone. I have the same machine and your video gave me the confidence to have a go. As my previous reply the screws on the bottom of my mach8ne look very smooth and round although I have a good quality multifunctional screw kit for all small types. So being persistent and not wanting to buy another kit I preserved with removing the plastic sides as you had started. If you had gone a bit further you would have found they come off quite easily. Lever up the back and front edge using the two screwdriver approach you showed. Once you get to the curve of the cover stop there. Go back to the centre at the base where you didn’t want to pull and simply lever up with the screwdriver off the base and the red sides will come apart from the base, no broken lugs, and the sides then just pull off. I find that a lot easier than removing the base and purchasing another kit that you will probably not use again. Hope that helps with anyone following this. Great video though. 👍

This video saved us from buying a new machine. We had a drip inside the coffee pod catch bin-about 50% in the bin and 50% out the spout. I could not locate a brewing unit here in the USA. Nobody seems to sell it, almost as if Nespresso has an embargo on it. With nothing to lose, I tore the unit apart. The most challenging part was removing the side panels so as to not break anything. The rest was easy and straightforward. Just go slowly. I found the spout passageway at the pod area to be full of coffee gunk in the spout area of the brewing unit where the coffee dribbles down and out. Old coffee had become a gel and was partially blocking the passage ways out the spout. I gave it a thorough cleaning with very hot water and a toothbrush, then reassembled it and it now runs like new! Shame on Nespresso for not selling the brewing unit, but more importantly, shame on them not having a good way to clean the drip passageway. If there were a way to remove the spout, cleaning would be easy. It is easy to access by tearing it apart, but I can now see why this is such a chronic problem for so many people. It obviously needs to be cleaned periodically, and descaling did nothing for this issue. This was coffee gunk, not water scaling. I encourage users to give it a try. The video was excellent, and I referred to it step by step as I tore it apart. It was spot on. Thank you again.

Best tutorial ever! And the Mako iFixit Precision Bit Set is a MUST HAVE! You need this toolset to complete this repair. But be carefull when removing the red side parts: while repairing mine coffemaker, I've broken some little plastic 'holders/nipples' while removing it with to much force.. But once assembled the red side parts will stick to its place because of the bottom parts while mounted. Thanks, James Roberts!

Thanks James, great video! I have the same KRUPS nespresso machine and I replaced the unit successfully by following your step-by-step video yesterday! The black handle on my original brew unit was really scratched and worn - making the machine look a bit dishevelled, so thought it was time for a change. I ordered the Magimix brew unit linked in your other video (silver handle) and it fits the KRUPS machine perfectly. I found a cheaper screwdriver adapter for the oval security screws on amazon for £6.99. I also needed a Torx screw bit to remove the top part of the housing but already had a set. Removing the side panels was the trickiest part, but with a little patience they came away unbroken. Fingers crossed the machine is ready for another 9 years of faithful service!!

Great video and thanks for helping us. Just wanted to point out that at around 12:15 in the video, it might be helpful for others to know an extra detail. The new brew unit doesn't come with the plastic spout. The spout has to be taken from the old unit and attached to the new brew unit. We didn't realise this till after we'd reassembled it all, so had to go back and do it again. Thought I'd point it out so that others don't make the same mistake we did!

I managed to open up my Magimix unit without having to take the base off. Just persevere and the sides will pop out by placing a small lever behind the panel to release the centre bottom clips. Warning: the plastic panels and clips are brittle so be careful and don’t use excessive force. Got the new brewer unit fitted so thanks for the video. By the way, initially I managed to get the faulty part with the leaking o ring out of the brewer unit without taking any panels off but couldn’t get the correct size o ring and therefore had to replace the whole brewer unit.

Thanks a million for this video James, really useful. The only thing I did differently was to not remove the individual connectors from the on/off switch on the base but rather to remove the switch from the casing so that the wires remained attached and then all I had to do was to disconnect the two water pipes but I could leave the remainders of the wires alone and that made things a bit easier. I was able to buy an oval head tool from amazon for STG£8.00 and got the brewer head for STG£28.95 from partmaster. The point made by another contributor about taking the spout off the old brewer and putting it on the new brewer is a good one, just make sure you clean it thoroughly first before fitting it to the new brewer head.

I like your video. I've same problem with excessive overflowing to the retaining tray. I was about to use your method to fix the nespresso machine. Luckily, my wife said it could be the build up of coffee calcification causing the flowing of water. I simply used a tooth pick to clean the nozzle to remove the build up & rinse couple of times. It worked for me. Hope, this is another option & it works for others too.

Great vid! Just what I was looking for: I have exactly that machine, with the same dripping problem. Just FYI, as far as I know the difference in the button positioning isn't necessarily due to age - the same machine is made by two manufacturers: Krups and Delonghi. The Krups has always had the buttons behind the brew chamber, while the Delonghi has them at the front. You can still tell that it's an older machine, though, because it has a physical power button. The newer ones just power up when you press one of the buttons, then shut down automatically after a certain amount of idle time.

Hi, really helpful video but I was able to replace the O ring in the brew unit, by getting a small screwdriver to release the clips at the front of the brew unit from both the top and bottom of the machine, this meant that I did not need to take the machine apart and the cost was just £1.00 for the new O ring. Whole job took around 15 mins and minimum hassle.

Actually I must come back on this ... the pressure chamber itself is made of 2 parts and they indeed have an O-ring between them. This often leaks under pressure. Way to fix it is: 1) remove and clean; 2) smear with silicone gease; 3) wrap a few layers of thin plumber's PTFE tape around the barrel (covering the groove where the O-ring sits); re-assemble unit.

Hi James. Just replaced my leaky brew unit using your vid. I agree, it’s worth replacing for £25 so the machine ‘just works’ again. If you were really on a budget (question why you’d be using a Nespresso in that instance) I wonder if it couldn’t have been fixed with a good clean and descale, as I couldn’t see any gaskets or rubber seals that had perished although that was only with a partial dismantle of the old brew unit. I wondered if maybe the old unit wasn’t fully travelling forwards to seal the capsule due to mechanical wear, justifying the replacement, or a fragment of capsule I found in there, hence clean & descale? Either way. Cheers for sharing (and not asking me to like, comment & subscribe/other RU-vid tropes) at the end 😂

Nonetheless, when the whole thing was back in one piece I did however end up with one tiny piece that fell out of the front silver part where the coffee pours out.. It's a little black pin (about 8mm) with a little spring wrapped around it. It would seem it's an anti-drip stop or something that would open up a valve under a certain pressure, but it has no traces of coffee on it after 8 years of use... I could kick myself for not touring Spain many, many years ago (I'm 68) as having now searched it (coastal regions) from the French border through to Puerto de Santa Maria beyond Cadiz I have come to terms with the fact that I have been ass and should, instead of buying homes in France, bought in Spain, particularly when one considers how inexpensive everything was back them. My youthful experience of Spain turned me off the place altogether. At first, having spent six weeks based in Alicante (2020) where we could walk to the beach and swim every morning before showering, breakfast and work, we spent a lot of time in Denia and then inland from there along a road with four or five villages, all of which we thought we could live in. Having now spent six months based in Sotogrande and touring extensively we have opted for between Estepona and Puerto de Santa Maria, interested in the area just east of Cadiz and within sight of it. Yes, Spain is the place and now with Brexit we will have to go through all the hoops to become residents when we finally return. Best of luck with Spain. Great food, wines that you can afford to buy with every meal, eating at civilized times and space, space, space. I still motorcycle and enjoy that in Spain while we have what I consider the best city in Europe, Seville (but not in summer).

Hiya James, thanks for the video. I used this to replace my brewing unit two months ago, machine was leaking. Worked like a charm after that. However, I'm now experiencing issues with watery coffee. The coffee doesn't smell or taste like it should. Did a descaling cycle, didn't help. Nespresso man thinks it might be linked to a too low pressure, but wouldn't the pump fail altogether? Any ideas on what could be at fault here? Thanks!

Hi the screw heads on the bottom of my machine look very round and smooth are you sure they all can be removed with the kit you purchased?
@PHNX0
@PHNX0 3 года назад
John you just need an oval head bit. They’re about £5 on Amazon. The full iFixit kit is overkill unless you have a lot of other consumer devices with proprietary bolts you want to repair / or are thinking of starting your own repair business. In a pinch you can always brute force them off with pliers like James did, or easier needle-nosed mole grips, but you’ll likely need to buy replacement screws as you might trash them doing that and worst-case could damage the plastic threads of the Citiz unit
