Today BSA motorcycles have released a brand new Gold Star and we attended the official launch preview at the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham.

I have waited for this moment for many years I was very concerned when I heard rumors of an electric BSA This is exactly what I wanted; namely a BSA that looks like one of the most iconic motorcycles of all time ! If you have a blueprint for a great motorcycle keep it even though it’s a modern day bike

Yeah it has to be cheap otherwise bsa won't last again, competition is neck and neck now a days Also I wonder how refined the motor is, it's a very big capacity single.

I don't think it is cheap, The price I heard was around 10k pounds, it is more likely to take on the likes of Triumph Bonneville and Kawasaki w800.

It is meant to target Royal Enfield though, but I dont think it will be able to do so as the market share which RE has in UK and European markets is very tough to compete against the value they offer. Plus soon Norton might also launch motorcycles in 350 and 650cc category as they have recently teased with the new concept cafe racer bike.

Have to agree with AdventureDog there a water cooled thumper with a vague resemblance to the original is not a Goldie. It's somebody thinking that there is a market there to be tapped and it actually may not be in the UK.

I was a very lucky young man, back in the late 60,early 70's, I had one or two BSA Bantam's . and I loved those bikes. To see a brand new B S A Gold Star being launched in 2021, is just amazing !

Most of my bikes were BSA - Bantam D7 175cc, B31, B33 both 500cc singles and finally an M20 500cc side valve ex WD despatch bike. The bigger bikes were all 'thumpers' and I can't imagine what the 650 Gold Star will vibrate like - hopefully there's some offset with counter-rotating flywheel like the RE 350 Bullet.

Make something out of them, unlike their british owners who intentionally ran them into the ground. I love thumpers, lets see what this ends up really being. I want a fast single, the gold star was damn impressive even today, Hopefully with all of the new machining they can at least be fast.

Only the RE is Indian company, other all are British brand.

@@ibrahimpallikkal5100 It's more complicated. There's the company (where its based), there's ownership rights (who owns it) and then there's the brand (built over a century). All 3 "brands" are British...ownership of all 3 is Indian. RE is now technically an Indian company (based in India), BSA & Norton remain British companies (both based in UK), just that they are subsidiaries of India-based parent companies is all. But when I said "Indian companies" what I had in mind were the parent companies with the management & resources that led to the brands' revival (Eicher Motors, TVS Motor Company & Mahindra Group).

Must say as a big fan of old British bikes, they did pull this off quite well. And i guess you dont have to fiddle with the ignition timing before you hope it starts within the first couple of kicks 🤣

someone of note in the motorcycle world once said of motorcycle design, "add lightness, and simplicate." so this is a good bike, but only for oldies who value comfort over performance.

@@johnmartin7158 No my old mate I'm a pakeha(European kiwi) but the Indians do call them dug dug because of the sound in fact there is a huge customizing shop in India called Dug Dug Motorcycles & has everything you can imagine for 500cc R.E.Here in NZ more they are more commonly known as thumpers but I prefer dug dug over thump thump & dug dug sounds closer to the real thing.

Suzuki put their 650 dirt bike motor into their Savage cruiser, unfortunately it's performance was gutless and it never lived up to the Savage moniker, it became known as the Suzuki Salvage by many owners.

It looks nice except for that big square, afterthought truck like radiator.Reshape and fit a more streamlined one that blends in with the rest of the bike and BSA have nailed it.Good job!

Embrace the radiator! Radiators on motorcycles are essential if you want the bike to make modern levels of horsepower and meet emissions requirements. Check out the new Ducati V-fours. They don't try to hide the radiators, they actually emphasize them. The bigger the radiator, the better the performance.

Really a lot of riders are not impressed by the insane superbikes of today; they are simply not that enjoyable on real-world roads and they put your driver's license in jeopardy. A modern big single like this new Gold Star would be so much fun on the back-roads.

It looks great I hope it has a counterbalance system for vibration/ many mature riders with behemoth cruises/ unbelievable Road restrictions and never ending severe traffic congestion even in the outer region's here in Australia/ can get back to enjoying riding and having fun with this beautiful BSA have been trying to get hold of the A7 to restore maybe this is a better option cheers all and ridewell

Most Goldie enthusiasts will actually own a carefully restored one, but will the younger more modern bikers want a 650 water cooled thumper. There's more to it than just trying to pay homage to a classic. The feel of the bike the vibration and sound on the overrun. The starting procedure that is all part of the nostalgia. I was a BSA B31 rider in the sixties with a good few tweaks to improve the power.

Had an original DBD34 in the 60's and it was a road legal race bike. Difficult to ride in traffic but great fun. I'm suprised that with all the advances in technology, that the new bike only has 45bhp, mine produced about that. Also looking at the styling it would be more suited to being called after the Road Rocket. But hopefully it is successful.

You have a poor memory. I have owned 3 x DBD500's and a DB350. One of the 500's came with a dyno spec sheet from the factory.. Its best effort was 40bhp. My last 500 was a classic race bike and in 2005 produced a modest 38.5 BHP at the back wheel. The new bike seems a lot like what I would have liked the old one to be but I really would have liked to know if it has a primary gear instead of a chain, how many gears, electric start and doesn't leak? I'm 83 next birthday.

If they are the same price or very similar to the Royal Enfield they will sell like hotcakes, however if they are much higher in the price range they may struggle to sell so many.

@@duggux9672 it’s always a risk buying a first generation mk1 machine of any kind, good luck to them I hope they succeed , however Triumph are now considered a top brand nowadays and the new BSA is an unknown quantity so asking a premium price for a new brand (to us) machine range could be suicidal.

Not a BSA at all , but looks-great for what it really-is . Funny how everyone slagged the first 'hybrid-BSA' with the SR500 air-cooled-single (kick-start-only like the original) , but they have their-tongues all-over the oil-cooled-Rotax-Hybrid 'electric-start' . Something in the Water ? Dave NZ

I would have been more excited if the new bike was a cutting edge naked, competitive with KTM 890 Duke R, Speed Triple etc., all this is just trading on nostalgia. They’ll probably sell heaps.

Well, I cant see a kickstarter on it and there is what looks like a starter motor in front of the cylinder, just behind the radiator.

As the law in America is such that all bikes must have left hand gear change, I often wonder if this was enacted to put pressure on British manufacturers to change because of pressure from HD. Dropping a foot at the traffic lights would seem to favour right hand gear change whilst using the left foot on down side of camber in the UK and reverse on driving on the right.

Nostalgia aint what is used to be! Its like the MX5, new Bonneville etc as in you can ride it and dont have to spend more time fixing the unfixable. It does look great but I would have thought most older people with the cash would have a thing about the 70s Rocket 3 and A65 (I do!).

Triumph pretty much got the twin with performance nailed for years, so I guess they’re finding an easier gap in the market Looks way better than an Enfield ! I do miss the sound and kicking over my A65 though, and wouldn’t be surprised if they had plans in the future for a twin, aka Enfield.

Trouble is the original Gold Star, was in it's day, a high performance machine, where this is now going to be a low performance commuter machine. They shouldn't have used that name.

@@kyakaruvlogs2784 I read that the facility in west Midlands, hasn't been started yet & will be for production of the new electric bikes. I don't have a problem with bikes being assembled in India, just in the materials being used, eg will the metallurgy be to a similar specification to current Triumph engines. Any idea what the weight of the new Goldie is, will it be a similar low weight to the original?

@@TheNorthRemembers91 Really? pretty much every single engine configuration is both smoother and more powerful than a similar sized single. I personally prefer the V4 as the best engine configuration. You couldn't give me a single over 250 cc.
