@VenomCobra04 Boarding is often called on the likelihood of an injury sustained from when the offending player trips, checks or pushes a player violently into the boards.
It's crazy how fast the game is nowadays... Good job by Carlsson and Oshie, making sure nobody stepped on Jensen during the scrum. Lots of concern from both benches, nobody likes to see a guy leave the game like that. Hoping he recovers quickly.
@capsfan901 that's class personified. lifelong Bolts fan, but really hate to see this happen to anyone. didn't seem malicious.. but man that was tough to watch.
Tampa Bay doesn’t care. They are doing that just to play the part. When players truly care you will see them get down on one knee with helmets off. That’s when you know the teams are really concerned
@@moiphy. three nights a week. Even got to hang with Adam Deadmarsh, Ray Ferraro, Barrett Jackman, there is even a picture of me with Ryan Huska (coach of the flames) when we played baseball together. Even got to play baseball with Jason Bay
@@wolfik708 The player was just finishing his check. As a coach you tell that to all the players. It's a clean play. Its hockey you have to be ready and protect yourself at all times not an ice capade.
I think that was the right call. I saw him finish a clean check and it looked like he shoved/pushed off Jensen (not a cross-check) and he was in an awkward position and where he was on the ice in proximity to the boards was the primary factor. There was no malice or intent to injure.
I agree with the no call, he was a little off balance when he got hit and went in at a bad angle, I never want anybody getting hurt but that's what happened
He got caught watching a dump in. Lightening player finished his check. Wasn’t a blind side hit. He was pressuring him before so he should have known that a hit was coming. No penalty.
No penalty was the right call. It wasn’t even that hard a hit, but Jensen was off balance and went hard into the boards. Hate to see someone injured in any situation and usually players skate away from far harder contact, but in a fast contact game like hockey injuries occur. Hopefully Jensen will get checked out and cleared quickly.
Boarding: when an opposing player pushes, trips or checks an opposing player violently into the boards. Not sure how much more violent you need to make a boarding call. It was also on the verge of being late considering the puck was across the blue line when the hit was made
@@user-we2yt5on9b and how many times have officials gotten calls wrong ? Wilson has been suspended on a few hits that also weren’t called penalties on the ice.
The officials, who know the rules, confirmed there was no illegal hit. Not even a particularly hard hit. Making all hits illegal is not hockey. For those of us who don’t understand that, we can always watch figure skating.
Hate to see it. I hope Jensen makes a speedy recover and doesn’t have any long last effects from being knocked out 😢. Great call by the refs by just sending everyone to the locker rooms with 1 min left after the first. 💯 there would’ve been a brawl with emotions running high.
i love hockey but i hate seeing injuries. hope hes ok after this... i remember when we played without helmets and how hated that rule was yet i do not remember anyone ever getting hurt at this level at all.
Jensen had already passed the puck when contact was made. If it were just a shoulder hit, maybe you could claim it was legal if not a bit late. But the hard shove with left arm is what really did the damage, and that timing of that near the boards is definitely wrong and cheap. To me that was a hit with an intent to injure.
Jensen was his teammate in college.. and that was a perfectly legal hit. if it even looked remotely like intent to injur, he would have gotten a game misconduct.
I mean I don’t care for either but i don’t really see an issue with the hit. If there was no injury that would be a crazy penalty to be called I think.
Thing is there was a penalty, it was a big hit just far enough from the boards to send Jensen head first into the boards. That's boarding.@@Dracox78000
I’m a huge Lightning fan. I watch all the games. Ess is hated around the league. Teams send their right guys at him. What comes first, the chicken or the egg. All teams have one of those “guys “. I’ve seen enough off screen interviews and live chats…just know there was no intent on his part. He’s not like that. However, he is responsible for it. If he sensed that wall coming up and Jensen was clearly off balance… he should have pulled up man. Thank god for the moment Jensen is alive and speaking. Caps are playing pissed right now. Rest of this game is going to be fun. Lightning need to chill given their spot in standings
@@user-ru8ks2zx7e I can’t argue that. I won’t. But Jensen was vulnerable in that spot and looked off balance. No penalty is the right call but only Eyss can answer if he knew it and could have just let up a bit. Shit happens so fast on ice and I couldn’t do it. I love the fight in the game and the “contact” but I don’t seeing players hurt like that… but yes, replay shows legal.
“Coming from the blind side”… hits him in center of chest, what a homer announcer. Bad fall, but clean hit. My thought was maybe boarding but seems like a stretch.
Completely clean hit. He’s just finishing his check. Bad spot to skate through the ice and you gotta spin. A lot of NHL players are in the bad habit of watching their dump ins and neutral zone passes because of how rare these hits have become.

@@kylewatson9626 Ik you have never played hockey before #1 That’s USA hockey’s bs boarding. NHL requires that it is from behind and doesn’t use the terms violently or defenseless like USA uses. #2 Distance from the puck during the hit means nothing for a hit. It’s time after. If some gently pushes a puck 3 feet in front of them and then is hit 10 seconds later.. that’s interference. In the same way, if someone shoots the puck all the way down the ice and is hit a second and a half later, that’s clean. And if you’re gonna call all big hits “violent” and the bigger the hit the more “violent” it is, you should just watch a diffrent sport. Hockey may be played on ice, but it isn’t for snowflakes like you. I hear soccer if fun the watch. They have some funny chants.
Nobody likes calls to go against them, but hey, it didn’t look like a dirty hit to me “my opinion” , but then I’m a Ducks fan, so, impartial. Hope he’s back on the ice soon..
Hockey is too fast a game to criticize both players here. No question Essimont had the "take no prisoners" finish your check mentality, but I can't fault him for that. Very unfortunate for Jensen. The timing of the collision against the boards was not what you want to see.
thats a good call , its hockey its sucks he got hurt , but it was a clean hit , we have all seen things in hackey that should have been penalty but never called ,
It's called checking, this is hockey. Love Nick Jensen but he got out muscled. It was a violent hit I'm not discrediting that, but stop pussifying hockey, "not being ready for it" isn't an excuse when you see the guy coming and still get your shit rocked.
He spun very weird from that hit, I imagine it was how his weight was on his skates. It didn't look all that heavy of a push or contact for how much his body spun around like that.
I get the need to stand up for a fallen player. However, emotions need to be controlled. Could you imagine if the fallen player received a secondary injury as a result of the pileup? I think back to the Bertuzzi sucker punch and how the Avs players jumped right on Todd, dropping right on top of Moore. I think that extra weight coming down on top of him probably further injured him beyond the injury already inflicted upon him by Bertuzzi.
@@Codez1087 Just because the limp noodle decided to not brace himself and allowed himself to be launched 4 feet into the boards doesn't mean it's boarding.
People always get bent out of shape when this stuff happens, everyone stands around saying how could he do that but every team does it and a ton of players have done it, intentional or not.
To me growing up in the 90s that’s a legal check, not his fault he wasn’t looking, their paid how much… open your eyes bud or expect it. Such babies in hockey these days, never go into a game not expecting to get laid out, yes when injuries happen you care for each other but these ridicules penalties have gotta stop. Also when it comes to the playoffs… it’s the playoffs let them play hard and dirty tough gnarly

2 min for boarding at the most. Definitely not from behind, no head contact. Just threw him into the boards. It is not on the hitter how the hittie falls after the check. Hope he is ok, but keep your head up and be aware of where you are on the ice.
@@drewkoslow7754he simply finished his check.. not his fault buddy was puck watching. that's his former college teammate, he def didn't think that would be the result of a clean hit.
@@dave3823 Not all hard hits into the boards that results in an injury are boarding based on Rule 41. Jensen needs to be defenseless, Eyssimont needs to be deemed as not attempting to "minimize contact", and because there was no on-ice call, this can only be a 5 minute major or no penalty (Joe Pavelski Rule). I don't think Jensen was defenseless, he lost an edge before contact and that's why I don't think it's boarding.
Certainly a dangerous area. Seemed like a clean check. Perhaps borderline blindside on an exposed player in a dangerous area. Was there intent? Impossible to say. I think boarding, 2:00, would be a good call. Injury is unfortunate for sure.
Look at the timing with the boards right there, total cheap shot, people will say oops, the player will say oops, bullshit, very dangerous place when the guys off balance that distance to the boards, fking cheap Shot.
Yep definitely a predatory hit but it’s clean regardless. A lot of guys make it to the NHL because of a predatory play style. You have to be aware and can’t watch your dump ins like that.
It's not the hit that is the problem. It's the unnecessary push that comes after it. That's the penalty. It could easily be construed as "intent to injure", and 5 and a game all day. That wasn't "follow through"; he shoved Jensen with both hands on his stick AFTER contact. Ref didn't see it that way, though.
Its definitely NOT a penalty its just a dirty hit in the sense where u know he is gonna get badly hurt. When i played it actually crossed my mind during situations like that to just squeeze the guy to the boards instead of the hit. To me it not illegal or a penalty its just a human respect thing. You dont do hits like that period
I don't think, by the rules, it should be a penalty. Hard hit, unfortunate outcome. It's horrible to see an injury like this, but it's hockey. Hard hits and injuries happen
People immediately think if someone falls and gets hurts then it’s a dirty play. NHL is becoming peewee league with how many people think normal hits is a bad thing
No. Boarding is from behind. Getting hit into the boards isn’t boarding. That is a hand to shoulder/chest area. Completely clean hit. It was predatory and deserved a response but it’s still clean.
Na he got blew up clean if that’s in open ice you still gonna say it’s a bad hit ain’t you. Soft asf hockey used to be a game of grit and toughness now these dudes are as soft ass tissue paper
It's literally the rulebook definition of boarding. "A boarding penalty shall be imposed on any player who checks or pushes a defenseless opponent in such a manner that causes the opponent to hit or impact the boards violently or dangerously." With the game misconduct addition of "When a major penalty is imposed under this rule for an infraction resulting in an injury to the face or head of an opponent, a game misconduct shall be imposed." Defenseless opponent? Check. Opponent impacted boards violently or dangerously? Check. Opponent suffered an injury to the face or head? Check. Honestly laughable how 2 refs, and Toronto combined can't properly interpret unambiguous, clear, written fucking English in a rulebook. This is Eyssimont's second major infraction in a week after jumping on the back of Xhekaj for no reason and he should've been suspended for both of them. This league is a fucking joke.
That should have been a penalty. Its essentially what the definiton of boarding. "A boarding penalty will be assessed to any Player who checks or pushes an unsuspecting opponent in such a manner that causes the opponent to hit or impact the boards violently or dangerously."
refrees who are I believe instructed to the details what is boarding and what is not, reviewed this and didn't give penalty in the play. boarding is primarily called when player who is hit can't suspect the hit (hit is from behind or blind side) and hits the head against the boards on the way down
