I watched this as a white belt years ago. Now I’m a purple belt and the principle in this video is my go to for guard retention. Thank you so much for this

Hip escape + half roll. Nice and simple! As a white belt who is still figuring out how to incorporate the movements during warm-up into application on the mat, this video was really helpful. Love your channel Firas!

I've usually seen it without the hip escape. Just invert and swing your legs around. The detail to get the hip in first was really new to me, and makes a lot of sense.

Firas, thanks for posting this video, the little details make the biggest difference! I was getting passed like this by the higher ranks because I wasn't making eye contact or getting my hip off the mat. Keep up the great work, it's videos like this that fire me up to train the next day! You're the man!

Great video Firas + Tristar. If I may ask/suggest something for future technique videos, It was great getting the weight/force lines on screen and that you drilled left and right variations - however I find it hard to conjure in my minds eye how this would look at mma speed. I appreciate the complicated and tactical nature of bjj, and that it must be broken down to fully understand, please don't mistake me! I would just love it if after you drill and explain some variations, you showed a variation of it at combat pace at the end (though not power of course!). Keep up the great work! ♥

Firas, Your instructional videos have helped improve my game a ton! I've noticed when I do this technique it is a lot easier for me to get my hips up when I put my non framing hand behind my back, as if I'm being handcuffed on the one side. It almost feels like that hand sometimes gets in the way when inverting. I wasn't sure if you ever do that or would recommend doing it?

very helpful concept with the ball and rectangle. But you must have a very strong lower back to roll like a ball with rounded spine and resisting some pressure in this position.

Hello Firas, First, thank you for all you do for us via your videos and guests! Real quick, how did you create or get the grappling “guy/dummy” I see at 7:50 on the right side of the frame? It looks like a standing dummy where you could practice on the legs as if it were standing.
