Today I'll be going to share my recipe for NSNS, as well as go over some pros and cons of this method versus the traditional grain prep method.
If you're using unmodified lids, make sure to loosen the lids when you're going to sterilize them.

Great information, man! I did this method the other day with WBS. My ratio was different from yours (230g WBS to approx 120ml gypsum water). I prepped 14 jars that with good success. And thank you so much for all the knowledge. You are helping heal the world.
@doloinc
@doloinc Год назад
For WBS: if you constantly get burst grains towards the bottom, elevate them out of the water completely. Use a stainless circular 12" drying/steamer rack with at least 2in legs; will give enough clearance so that you can add enough water for the cook (including initial off-vent) and the jars won't be submerged

Dirty jars dont have to be an issue. The dry/wet weight ratio is the only thing that matters so you can just quickly rinse off the grain / birdseed before putting them in jars and weighing out the rest of the water My recipe for WBS has been: - 300g dry bird seed / 1qt jar (I look for millet heavy feed with no cracked grain or corn) - Rinse all the grain in a strainer or bowl until the water is no longer too cloudy to see the bottom easily - 450g wet weight. Split grain between all jars and add water so that they each weigh out to 450g

I use semicen oats. Triple washed. Rinse them 2 times. Then follow pgt process. I sterilize in an oven dry. I can do about 30qt at a time. 1 hour 300f then 1.5 hour 250. A lot of ppl talk badly on oven tek but if you do it right you will never need a PC. I may get a couple jars contam out of 100. It works
@macslavsquatblyat9476
@macslavsquatblyat9476 Год назад
I have done this tek with WBS. Works well, and there is a trick to get rid of the clumping at the bottom of the jar. First, you need some good quality oven mits with the heat guard where you won't feel how hot the jar is when it is time to shake. Tilt the jar gently upside down with one hand and gently knock the bottom of the jar so the clumped grains can drop, then shake from the sides and it will redistribute the moisture and everything! After the jars are fully cooled down you can then innoculate all on the same day!

I love the no soak no summer tek. I do however rinse my grains first as well as periodically shaking during the cooling process on top of the hot shake. If you don't hot snake then they may not come completely apart later. Rinsing does help lower the clumping some.

@@wesleymyers8205 It does. Just a quarter teaspoon per quart jar/liter of grains. Sorry this is soooo late. I no longer use this tek myself tho. Plus the grains are used to feeding on the nutrient by the time it goes to grain and they just take off. agar is 50/50 bottle water/grain water.

It seems to me that a hybrid of NSNS and traditional soak/simmer would be best. Why not still wash the grains before jarring them for the NSNS? Seems like you'd get the best of both, cleaner less sticky grain with the ease of sterilizing/cooking the jars at the same time. Also, with the traditional soak/simmer it seems very easy to overcook the grain if you're boiling it and then also steaming them for 90 mins

Yes, black ball lids can be used as an unmodified method. Just keep the lids a quarter turn or so loose when you pressure cook them so they have some exchange to prevent the jar from breaking. They won't melt, but over time, they may start to warp a bit. Good luck on your journey! 🙏

Why don't you use a lid modified with an incubation port as well?

Trying it today! I even bought a real pressure cooker. Let the unreasonable anxiety of pressure cooking begin!

Great to see you back PGT! Just got done taking a clone from a bomber fruit thanks to all your lessons. If my notes from your other videos are correct, I noticed you decreased the millet in your ratio to a 1.77:1 from a 2:1. Did something specific change or did you just tweak it over time? Appreciate all your efforts!

I've been using coir/vermiculite with powdered oyster shell and bat guano mixed in. I'm running a batch with some added food grade cellulose right now that's out performing anything else I've ran to date.
