I played this once, there were basically three types of people: A: The people actually trying to keep the plant working and stable B: The people just looking around And C: The people trying to cause a meltdown I have never had this many replies, 65 at the time of writing this
if you like this kind of game, you might want to try Realistic Boiling Water Reactor Simulator its supposedly realistic in running a nuclear reactor, includes turbine control room and polisher stuff, its painful to learn but its really fun when you're done
@@masterman1502 if i remember, in russia they still use RBMK designs (obviously they have been fixed, especially the 1000 ones), which is a very bad idea, but i don't think they are willing to spend money in designing a new model from scratch (which they lack habilities based on what we have seen), or just rebuilding all plants. RBMKs are more efficient in being a nuclear weapon than in production of energy.
@@masterman1502They still use it to this day. The Chernobyl Disaster happened because they don't really care about the safety of RBMK Design to cut some cost and after the incident they finally fix the main problems
I love content where people with actual professions react to something that has a relation to their job, especially in Roblox. BUT DOING THAT WITH A RUBEN SIM VIDEO? THATS EVEN BETTER.
i think its pretty interesting seeing an actual nuclear engineer react and explain those videos you can also learn from him Amazing Edit: i dont know how this got almost 2000 likes i remember checking on it and it had like 3 likes and now its almost at 2k thank you guys so much
@@tfolsenuclearif you thought this was a realistic depiction wait till you see the chernobyl recreation. The series of events and the structures are almost exactly the same with all the detail
theres a roblox game called realistic boiling water reactor simulator. some of the people on the dev team are real nuclear industry professionals, like yourself. as such, the game is quite detailed and worth checking out!
Yep, a great game for him to check out. Best of the best of the nuclear power simulation community, from what I know. I don’t know how he’d make a video on it, though.
hello, i’m one of the appreciated members of RBWR. The community is working on a PWR simulation of roblox which is a bit more realistic than RBWR but has some of the basics. We are also working on Covebay which is a near 1:1 replica of a BWR simulator down to hydraulics, compressors, diesel generators, etc.
In the newest version a brand new unit 1 control room and reactor hall is being implemented. It would be nice if you played since developers use real word documents and have real world nuclear engineers
QSERF has to be one of the most detailed reactor games I’ve ever seen, can’t say realistic due to the idea being fictional, yet the effort put into it is amazing
qserf is a well made game but it doesnt even pretend to be realistic. i mentioned rbwr in a comment of mine as i consider it much more suitable for this channel
@@lemonandgaming6013 it does "pretend" to be realistic its lore takes place literally in 1980 something regardless of the 6 or so power lasers that create a massive fucking blackhole, and because of the references to many agencies and whatnot i'd say its very realistic to the point where it feels like your exploring a place thats confidential, as if your not supposed to be there
@rxleurn actual fusion reactors simply dont exist yet. and even the tests they have done do not involve magic floating orbs, lol they literally just built random (from a point of realism) mechanics, sprinkled some real sounding words and thats it. if somebody even slightly cares about this field they can see the lack of realism. and the devs dont care, realism isnt their goal of course
The main takeaway here is that you usually have to TRY to get the reactor to go supercritical when other people are around... It takes a small group of sane people to stabilize a reactor, and it takes the collective agreement of everyone in the room to make a reactor fail... There are dozens and dozens of failsafe's and mechanisms to keep a reactor from doing this, and 90% of the time, it's collective human incompetency that causes problems, not the actual reactor itself... Reactors were made to be (nearly) as safe as they can possibly, or reasonably be...
5:29 I do wanna mention that in that game, it would probably still have taken a minute to raise the control rods, and he would've had to keep pressing the "raise control rods" button to keep raising them; presumably Ruben cut all of this out for the purpose of pacing.
If you can find a video on “Realistic Boiling Water Reactor V2”, you should definitely make a commentary video on that. It’s incredibly complex and I’m guessing very similar to the real thing.
In a games where you're always above consequences, there's always that persistent feeling of wanting to blow up the facility. Because if you can, You Must. Aside from that, great video. It's always amusing and interesting to see professionals reacting to silly things like this and giving their opinions.
Yeah Like innovation space ship pbcc North shore(rest in peace) discover Subterranean research base and a bunch of other games that let you blow their reactors make you feel that way
I don’t know shit about Nuclear engineering but holy shit did I learn so much while being actively invested during this video. Very rare to come across channels like this. Keep it up man I love this!
In one of these games on Roblox I had one of the reactors up and running and then I accidentally cut power to the whole array of panels and buttons, I was pretty pissed especially considering how I had spent 45 minutes of mindless instruction following and waiting in order to get up to that point, and then one lever ruined it all. Props to you for doing it for real, though!

Basically at minute 10:00 (or somewhere around) someone may have gotten the rods down all the way because in that game the reactor does not scram it's self (players can scram but it only happens once we are in the meltdown event)
Years ago, I played that solo and it was *designed* to always end in catastrophe. Not sure if the dev changed it since then. One thing you might like for the game Minecraft is the tech mods that it has. Not sure what some are called now, but there is/was Atomic Science (which relied on many other mods to work interchangeably) where you could build your own nuclear reactor in that game to generate power (typically Redstone Flux (RF for short)). Both Minecraft and Roblox has some really tech-heavy games/mods going for them and all enjoyable.
It isn't that it is designed to end in catastrophe, but rather pointing out that it takes multiple people to make any meaningful change in the system. Even in this short edited video, you can see how Ruben repeatedly has to either distract the other players or get them to follow along in order to actually get the system to blow. Which highlights one of the major factors of nuclear reactors, even for Soviet installations during the time of Chernobyl, which is that everyone in the room must be complicit in the incompetence for the series of events to occur. Although that can also be said for basically 99% of industrial incidents, since human incompetence and/or negligence is usually the end culprit.
This game is underrated for 3 reasons: 1: 4 or more people trying to meltdown the place 2: People asking not to SCRAM 3: The people who actually do the plant work but fail Also, to MELTDOWN the reactor in this game, you need to set the control rod insertion all the way to 0%
I played a game called innovation Inc, dead now, but now I play the sequel called Innovation Inc Spaceship, and 1 in every 3 servers are trying to cause a freeze down or meltdown and become toxic when you try to stop them. Also the game is fun, you can divide by 0 on a calculator and turn to spaghetti, clone yourself, eat radium rods, fly into a black hole, etc.
Dont know if it was just me, but when I realized nuclear reactors boil water into steam to spin a turbine that produces electricity it seemed somehow less impressive/intimidating
You should try reacting to some stuff on the Roblox game "Chernobyl Unit 3", it's a VERY detailed game and actually one of, if not the most realistic I've seen of the control room, controls and physics, including temperature simulation, voiding simulation, reactivity simulation, instability simulated. You can even select EVERY individual control rod and pull them out or insert them individually, you can change the speed of the pumps, close the throttle valves, screw with emergency power and the EDG, run up the turbines, sync them to the grid, and more
Haha! Great to see somone enjoying broken hill! Rubens video is actually when the game was owned by hyptek instead of plasma inc so there have been a few changes and extra realism touches added. Great video!
Out of all types of games (experiences as roblox call it), these technical/engineering related ones tend to have some of the most well made designs. I have memories of spending afternoons and nights at Pinewood places
See, that’s actual reaction content. You actually end up learning something from that video, unlike RU-vidrs like ssniperwolf who gives the same reaction every time.
The thing about coal and gas that makes them so attractive, besides the high energy yield, is that they are much easier to implement and use. Just light them with a spark and boil water to turn a turbine or push a piston. These other more "green" energy sources need semi and rare earth metals or radioactive materials, all of which are harder to find and use. Hydroelectric power and wind turbines are perhaps the easiest of these green power sources to implement but hydroelectric power relies on large bodies of water and wind turbines need wind, which isn't always available and is rather unpredictable. I have come up with an alternative solution. Systems that can absorb and utilize ambient energy, such as stray EM radiation, and ambient heat. Some of this comes from sunlight but absorbing the heat from it would be easier to do than making a solar panel that only works when visible sunlight is shining on it.
Check out Heliostat or Solar Power Tower plants when you’ve got the chance. That’s a really good example of what you’re describing. Geothermal power has also been suggested, the problem is either: A.) You’re drilling much deeper than has been done before, to reach metamorphic rock. Think about the problems fracking causes, and you begin to see the problems with this. B.) You have to build on active volcanic land. Its one thing to build, say, a monitoring shack for scientific purposes, but I think you’ll be hard pressed to find people to fulfill the logistics of such an operation.
I've played the game and the SCRAM procedure is in it, you have a ton of rooms that are not depicted in the video. Like for example in case of overpressure, the pipes under the reactor can break, and you need to fix them. The feed water pumps are actually visitable, The coolant needs to be refilled and delivered. Like if you don't purposefully try to do a meltdown, you have a lot of stuff to do to make this plant run.
Really enjoyed this. Haven't been able to get this to run. Would love to play it in single player. I think they were reheating their pizzas by tossing them into the spent fuel pool. LOL Thanks for the video. :)
hey man you should try Realistic Boiling Water Reactor Simulator its been made to be so realistic i spent a week training in the first unit and then spent another learning unit 2 with the polishers and turbine stuff
You should try the game for your self, specially because thats the old version, the newer stuff has gotten some upgrades compared to that version and the upcoming V3 will be even more realistic (if it does come out actually).
Hey! I would suggest you watch a video about IITPP (Short for Innovation Incorporated Thermal Power Plant). This game is in Roblox. This game gives you an opportunity to operate a magma crystal reactor that has unique disasters. In addition to that. You can explode a warhead or do a zombie outbreak! Watch 1 video about it. Pleaase!
In case you didn't know, only 3 buttons on on that whole control panel work, the rods and scram that can be only pressed to prevent blowout. The rest is just useless decoration.
Ah, good ole Hyptek (now known as Broken Hill) Nuclear Power Plant. Used to play that game a lot several years ago, and I actually discovered it through Ruben Sim's video. Haven't played that in a while, but I've come across this other roblox game about a month ago, Quantum Science Energy Research Facility (QSERF), which I believe is a lot more realistic than Hyptek/Plasma/Broken Hill is. While QSERF's main focus is with a Dark Matter Reactor (DMR), they have other tidbits, like a mobile nuclear power plant called Project Helios, aka Foxtrot 9/F9. F9, I'd dare say is the most complicated thing in the game to operate, it can be fun but also frustrating when you're trying to sync to grid. Just wanted to mention QSERF, in case you either feel like doing another reaction type video or even get roblox and play a few of these reactor-type games, I dunno.
I really wanted to become a nuclear engineer for a really long time until a year ago when every job site I looked at told me it wasn't a good idea because the job demand is on a decline, so I stopped pursuing it then and there. Since you're one and you might have more knowledge than I do, how would I go about getting a job in nuclear engineering if I were to graduate with a bachelors? Being in Texas, its actually easy to decide where I would go to get the degree, Aggies has the biggest program and multiple on campus labs for it. I just don't know where I would go to get a job in that field.

i suggest checking out any of the innovation inc games, also IITPP (innovation inc thermal power plant), i just think it's fun and a bit scary honestly
This was a great video. Ruben sim is actually a great guy but was recently sued by roblox for being “the leader of a cyber mob” that being in quotes because he isn’t doing anything bad when he plays, he just goes on adventures with a cast of wacky characters in game. He now by law cannot play roblox unfortunately but it’s nice to see someone react to his video.
Btw there’s a game where you can recreate Chernobyl. 2 endings, one where you save Chernobyl from exploding(I got the thing by mistake without trying) and the explosion.
You should try QSERF, it's again a roblox game with a more sci-fi reactor (and also a "traditional" one) wich has alot of details and is generally more detailed, hope to hear from you.
It's such a shame that Roblox did ruben dirty. I loved his Roblox content. Seeing his content on your channel just popped up in my recommended really makes me think Roblox needs to rethink the ruben situation. +1 Sub.
As a Tier 3 in the Plasma Security Division, I find it very nice that you enjoyed BHNPS! The game has changed a lot since then, you should check it out whenever you wish 😇
It sucks that Ruben sim, the guy who made that video got sued unjustly by some corrupt higher ups that he just had to quit Roblox overall. His videos were entertaining and unexpectedly educational lol
There's a realistic simulation on roblox about nuclear power plants etc. (as far as roblox standards go) Its called "Realistic Boiling Water Reactor Simulator" And takes inspiration from real reactors and manuals. Its pretty interesting to play.
Not sure if you already did it, but there are some mods in the game Minecraft which have nuclear reactors I figured I'd just share. My particular favorite reactor in a mod would be the Nuclear Fission reactor in Mekanism because it has quite a bit of thermodynamics involved specially if you are switching from water coolent to Sodium.
@@zacharytaylor190 I wanna try those at some point. I always have to build the reactors in creative mode before doing them in survival mode, less I accidentally cause a chernobyl at my base.
I think what this game unintentionally portrays well is the sheer creativity and endless possibility that exists on Roblox through it's userbase. Able to create such great games like these for completely free. Unfortunately the platform has it's fair share of issues that have turned alot more of the mature players away from it. Ruben Sim and his whole incident is proof enough of that.
Haha, I'd love if you can see old IC2 (MC 1.2.5 tech) of how their nuclear science works. nobody would want this, but it'd be interesting to see your opinions
As someone who knows absolutely nothing about nuclear reactors and stuff like this, this man made it pretty understandable. Great video and thanks for what you do
What i like about this game is how the top of the reactor really flew up with the explosion like a coin and crashed sideways in the reactor hole This is exactly what happened in the actual nuclear disaster of tschernobyl
