Guys I just want to let you both know I've been fighting cancer and this podcast helps me take my mind off things. Thank you. Tom knows me as the watch guy. If he remembers. Lol
Jesus died for our sins on the cross. He paid the price of our deaths and came back to life, to give us eternal life. If we repent from everything bad that we've done, and make Him the Lord of our life, He will do it. He loves us and that's why He wants to deliver our souls from hell. I invite you to come closer to Jesus, read the Bible, pray every day and find a Christian Church to assist. A life lived by God’s side, is worth living.
@@OuterHavenMediauh well to be fair and in his defense the actress Sarah Carter she is hot and is a very attractive woman so why wouldn't Tom remember her.😂
Really liked Alicia and I’m still a little bitter about how the character ended up. Great job guys, Ryan’s explanation of the dynamic between Clark and Alecia was excellent!
Yep, someone said last season or whenever that Ryan doesn't even watch episodes because he doesn't talk much, and while it's obviously true he doesn't talk much, but when he actually does get a chance to say something, I think his insights are always great, like in this case.
Awesome. You can tell who Tom had the most fun with when he worked because he remembers stuff. That's why I can't wait until Justin Hartley and Erica Durance show up! he remembers a lot of stuff with them bc he had a lot of fun and laughs with them, same age and same kind of people like Tom. I talked to him at a con and he was giving me insight into some random costume Erica was wearing that I even forgot about LOL. Season 4 and on are going to be so much fun! Especially with the Justice League and move to Metropolis in S5 and then Oliver Queen showing up in Season 6. Can't wait! Keep up the great work guys.
Justin Hartley couldn't see at night running on top of roof wearing dark sunglasses 😎🕶️ and hood . That what he said. And I thought that was both funny and dangerous at the same time. So in reality Green Arrow is really a superhero !
Obsession was Clark's sexual awakening on this show. Al and Miles couldn't have picked anyone better to play Alicia Baker. Sarah isn't just drop dead gorgeous, she's an excellent actress: She could be sexy, sweet, sad or scary and switch to the required demeanor immaculately. She was also the only girl to make Clark act relaxed and silly, that's why she felt like a breath of fresh air compared to Lana. She became such a fan favorite that they brought her back the following season.
I had (and may still have) the biggest crush on Sarah Carter. She was so adorable that even when she was supposed to be creepy, I still liked her. I was actually happy when she came back and wish they had given her character more story.
Clark/Alicia is one of the highlights of early Smallville. After so many eps of Clark feeling isolated, it was such a treat for him to be happy and find someone he didn't need to hide his powers from.
Yeahh, that bugs me most about this show. Always wanted to see more of the refreshing storylines, friendships and normal activity’s growing up. They focus a lot on the angst and in certain storylines they drag it more than i find it comfortable, especially s5 forward it’s frustrating that it gets so depressing.
I liked the fact that writers decided to show Clark's sexual awakening to the audiences, not only that but also the detail that he wasn't an expert or anxious in that subject. I also think that this story should've been a two-parter. And finally I enjoyed that Tom didn't have some sort of selective amnesia about the bedroom scene 😂😂😂
Night attack when Alicia teleported into Clark's bed was the best scene. It was pretty aggressive😮😊. Always enjoyed Obsession, pretty good episode, chemistry between them was great. Alicia was definitely fan favorite character. The only thing I didn't like was when Alicia attempted to kill Lana. That was tiresome, poor Lana. It seems that every citizen of Smallville tried to kill Lana at least once. Carter next Talkville guest, please🙂
Well I hope she's not the NEXT guest, because we won't see her until season 4, and it'd be great to get some people in before then :) But definitely a very welcome guest when the time comes!
I Love this episode, the character of Alicia is one of my favorite side characters. The chemistry between Tom and Sarah is absolutely great. It’s so effortless and natural. She was such a breath of fresh air from the whole Clark/ Lana situation.
She actually makes an appearance TWICE after this episode. I loved Alicia and the fact that Clark could finally be himself around someone and also explore more sexually, too. He was more free spirited around her I feel!
Eight minutes into the show, but I thought I just answer Michael's question about anyone seeing Clark's heat vision. Al and Miles stated that they had a clear vision for this unique ability. They wanted Clark to wield his heat vision without anyone noticing even if he was using it in front of someone, prompting the development of the subtle yet fascinating 'invisible heat wave' concept. Unlike the iconic red or blue heat vision seen in Supergirl, this choice was deliberate to maintain Clark's discreet use of his power in front of others. As the seasons progress, we witness Clark's growing strength, which leads to a captivating transformation of his heat vision, transitioning from a wavy invisibility to the more traditional red when he is using at full maximum power, his pupils literally change.
We have seen Clark's eyes go red a bit already in the show. I never watched the later seasons, I'll have to keep an eye out for the evolution of it, interesting.
In Season 6 - "Promise" we see how Lana sees Clark use his heat vision and speed. Only the affect of the heat vision is seen...and when he speeds away...its like he vanishes...without the whooshing sound affect. Cool to have that perspective clear things up for us. It also really helps sell Lana's shocked reaction, finally witnessing some of Clark's power.
@@jerodast I don't know why I'm still up at 4:56 am, but I can't seem to sleep. So, I'm going to share the episode for you, so you can skip ahead and see it if you want. In season 6, episode 21, around the "31:42 mark" of that video, Clark is fighting a super soldier who has the ability to generate a force field. This force field he generates is so strong that Oliver tells him the only way to penetrate it is with an explosion equivalent to a nuclear blast. To defeat the shield, Clark generates enough heat from his eyes to penetrate it, the equivalent of nuclear explosion. Now, you are correct that Clark's eyes turn red when he uses his heat vision, but normally it's only the outer rim that changes colour to red, and the pupils turn dark black, In this particular instance, his entire eye turns bright red including the pupil and beam becomes red. This is the only time that Clark has ever generate an explosion equivalent to a nuclear explosion, and his eyes never turn red like that again.
Although he never uses the nuclear heat beam again, and his eyes, including the pupils, never become bright red again, the wavy heat beam does change and becomes a lighter reddish color as the season progresses. However, at times when Clark uses it, the wavy beam still appears somewhat invisible.
@@Soundwave927 That episode was so cool, and I was so happy that she finally got to see Clark use his powers after six years. I like that it was done from Lana's perspective
I’m a straight female and even I had a crush on Sarah Carter. 😂 She’s beautiful and just too good. Please try to get her on for her 2 episodes (back to back) in season 4! Her mini arch is one of the best of the whole show IMO. The repercussions…
Alicia played by Sarah Carter was one of my favorite guest stars on Smallville. She did a fantastic job. 😊 "There are three roses!!!!". *Best Picard impression. Lol 😂
I can't believe Michael was tempted to give less than a rose for this one haha. I think Michael is just already tired of this show when it's not one of the like 4 really tight pivotal episodes per season. Believe me I'm the first to admit Smallville is almost constantly flawed, but this one clearly rises above average. (I will also admit it wasn't quite as groundbreaking as I'd remembered, you really need to see her full arc so this one is even better in that context.)
@@jerodast Yeah, the next 2 episodes she's in (back to back) are much better. One of them is possibly the most important episode in the series. Pariah. That one is easily 2 roses for the important plot development.
I remember when I first watched this particular episode, I was completely taken in by Sarah Carter's beauty. I wonder if there's any chance to get her on this podcast for next season. I would honestly love to hear her experiences on Smallville, working on set, working with Tom. Really anything that comes to mind. Just anything of her time on Smallville.
@@Costas22I hope they can get Sarah on the podcast too. This was one of my favorite episodes. From a females point of view it was Hot seeing Tom’s character being somewhat powerless with her charm.
I loved Alicia’s character, especially when she comes back. You guys should have Sarah as a guest on the podcast when the next episode with her comes up!
When Alicia comes back for a couple of episodes in season 4, she has some of the best character development. She definitely had a lasting impact on Clark, but more importantly her actions had a massive impact on the eventually character development of Chloe as well
Bingo, I joke that Alicia realized her real competition was her bizarro twin in Chloe who in her own way was in love obsessed with Clark but instead chose devoted friendship BFF
Well Alicia Baker really really wanted Chloe Sullivan to be her bridesmaid and friend so she told Chloe Sullivan a secret that Clark Kent is really Superboy. I'm forever excited for Chloe Sullivan being the best secret keeper for life as well as Pete Ross was already known that Clark was Superboy . And what is Soo funny was Clark Kent lost his memory to a robber with meteor Kryptonite rock infect power to erased a minute to longer time memories of Clark Kent and Clark Kent doesn't even know he's Superboy when his parents wasn't even at home and Chloe Sullivan decided to be a adult baby sitter and protector and secret identity protector for Clark Kent to it's Soo funny how Clark reveals almost all his superhero powers to Chloe additional she didn't know he had but kept quiet to anyone else closer to him Clark Kent and didn't even confined to Clark's parents and Pete Ross until must must later next season until Chloe Sullivan getting in trouble with Lionel Luther and the meteor shower again in " Smallville," season number 04 episode 22 " COMMENCEMENT," public highschool graduation in Smallville. And Clark Kent Kryptonite key crystals made Ice Castle 🏯 of Krypton Crystals at the North Pole. Original airdate 5-18-2005 Jor-El speaks not the name brand soap called Jor-El.
@@richa.s9912 Just recently watched the S4 episodes with Alicia and didn't remember her ever being friendly buddy with Chloe to want her to be her bridesmaid don't know where you got it unless a comicbook redid the story. She told Chloe becuz when things went bad about the guy attacking Lana making it look like her yet Clark still loved her, she felt Chloe would be the only one to understand why, thus to expose Clark's abilities. btw for SMALLVILLE Clark's his proper name is KAL EL and superpowered sounds better as they did not want to call this/him Super'BOY'.
I think everyone can agree that we all fell in love with sarah carter in this episode regardless of how crazy her character was in the show. lol I'm going to send this episode to her to watch.
I really can’t wait to hear what you guys have to say about “Unsafe” next season… The (almost) sex scene in that episode with Clark and Alicia in the hotel room was so spicy, I’m still shocked it was allowed on cable TV. 😂
The WB/CW was actually broadcast TV even :) But yeah even in this one, the close up shots of very skimpily clad body parts was way more intense than the show has gotten before. We had the girl's locker room an episode or two ago but that was just background. This was a deliberate choice to amp it up, and it was actually much less gratuitous.
I believe the reason Lana didn't use any karate moves, unlike when she fought Chloe, was that it wasn't truly her. While it was technically Lana, she was under the influence of a potent hypnosis, devoid of all doubt and fear. Instead, she was single-mindedly focused on a lethal mission, similar to when you hypnotize someone and instruct them to stand on the edge of a rooftop. I think the moment she began to feel fear was when she attempted to step back, possibly to create some distance for a back kick (Lana's favourite kick). To her surprise, Alicia was suddenly behind her, and the look on Lana's face seemed to say, "How did you get there? You were just behind me." This might explain why Lana ran away rather than trying to fight.
Internet fandom was nothing like it is today when Smallville came out, and it's been fun to hang out around reddit and whatnot now to talk about the show. But the first time I saw that Clark/Alicia was such a popular pairing, I just couldn't believe it, based on my memories. But rewatching Obsession for the first time in probably 20 years, for the first 1/3 or so, she and Clark were really just absolutely adorable. They seemed like teens trying to navigate liking each other and being able to be open and honest about themselves and I was like "Wait...do they work? DOES THIS MAKE SENSE?!" And then the episode continued and no, Alicia's just the worst (but Sarah Carter is great!). But I really enjoyed this episode. It may have originally aired in February, but it was a perfect one to watch on a chilly October night.
I mean...she's crazy, so that's bad. But obviously the sweet connection they had at the beginning IS a part of her, so if you could just extract the psychopathic part, you can see why the fans would have some wishful thinking about it!
During one of my binge watching of the series, I actually documented everyone who found out Clark's secret: the ones who lived, the ones who died and the ones who forgot about it. :D Up to this point, 18 people who knew it, died. Lex found out in Nicodemus, but forgot about it afterwards. Chloe found out in the episode where she and Pete were stung by that creature in the cave, but forgot about it after being cured. Perry White sort of found out, but he thinks the alcohol fooled him. And Lex found out again when he went crazy, but forgot about it due to his shock therapy.
Honestly, Alicia has always been one of my favorite side characters on the show. Her connection with Clark & the tragedy of it all at always killed me 😭 I loved every episode she was in and loved how Clark was with her
Her comeback is one of the most important episodes in Clark and eventually Supermans Mythos. A milestone in the development and foundation of his ultimate morality.
I LOVED this episode and Sarah as Alicia! I was soooo hopeful for Clark in this episode until things went haywire 😂 But as Tom said she comes back for one of the MOST IMPORTANT episodes of the whole series!!!! 🤫 ❤
Alicia in all her episodes was absolutely stunning and played her character so well. I started hoping Alicia would take Lana's spot as Clark's crush. Perhaps in Clark's final years of HS his preferences changed. I knew that wouldn't happen but still. It was so refreshing to see someone so open that Clark was open with in turn.
I think that's exactly why (Spoiler Alert!) they had to kill her off, because her chemistry with Clark was so strong that many of us would want her instead of Lana or Lois to be with Clark
i remember watching as a kid and absolutely loving Clark and Alicia’s whole arc. the chemistry between them was incredible to watch! now as an adult i wish Tom and Sarah would do another show/movie together
I love this episode and Alicia is one of my favorite side characters on the entire show. I really feel like she could've been one of Clark's greatest allies... once she recovers from her obsession. Can't wait for her return in TWO episodes next season.
Great episode!!! This pod just keeps getting better and better! Alicia is a landmark character for the series and integral to Clark’s Smallville journey. Definitely try and get Sarah to come on the show, TalkVille team!
Sarah is my favorite side character of the whole series. Her last episode of the series is my favorite of the entire series. I can't wait till you guys get to it.And you should definitely try to get Sarah on for that one.Such a huge episode!
To me it was such a nice change to see Clark actually happy in an episode as opposed to being so tortured. Loved the Clark Alicia arc, episodes i always tend to lean towards if rewatching any random episodes :)
Looking GREAT, Tom! Glad Tom enjoyed "Obsession" enough for 1.5 Roses! Alicia Baker will return in Season Four's Episodes 11 "UNSAFE" & 12 "PARIAH", so fingers are crossed for Sarah Carter to appear on the podcast! #HappyTwentyTwoYears
I remember watching Smallville and talking to friends about it. Sarah was one of our favourite characters and became known within our friend group as "scare-dorable" because she was scary but also adorable.
If that bedroom scene with Alicia was steamy, then you're in for a wild ride for S4EP11🤪(she returns for two more episodes and ugh the end of the second episode HURT). I really enjoyed this episode. Sarah Carter was great as Alicia. Clark finally found a girl he could open up to and she turns out to be psychotic. It's such a shame for him. I think, even if it wasn't explained what happened to Alicia after Clark exploded the red paint on her, it was implied that she would most likely been taken to Belle Reve. I don't believe she was innately bad, she just needed serious help. And probably should've gotten that help much, much sooner.
I loved this episode. Clark was blindsided repeatedly by Alicia. Michael's advise was cool. I can't wait to hear the next two times she is in those episodes. keep it up, guys. Love you both.
Usually listen on Spotify but wanted to jump in and say I really enjoy doing the watchbacks with you guys and it's great Ryan seems to be getting into the show Also, this episode is so awkward 😅
This was such a fun episode to me. It was nice to see Clark with someone. Then hated when she goes crazy. ❤ Love that they bring her back later! Wanted to get a question in for this but missed it.
"Obsession" was a good episode, and witnessing Clark's first attempt at sex was funny. Typically, Martha's reactions are comically awkward when Clark talks about girls or when she catches him with one, but in this instance, her composed response seemed fitting - a rare occasion indeed. The actress who played Alicia did a great job and I am glad she is back even if it is only for two episodes.
I remember seeing Sarah in one thing before Smallville; Final Destination 2! She was the friend of the main character (played by Criminal Mind's A.J. Cook) who was sitting in the front seat of the SUV. She was killed off in the first 10 minutes!
I don't think it's a coincidence Tom has this connection and spark with the people he really connects with off-screen. I particularly felt with it with Ma/Pa Kent, Lois, Alicia, Oliver- he has this giddiness and camaraderie with them. I think they all vibe with him unlike the rest of the cast who seem eccentric and particularly not his type.
This was one of my favorite episodes in of the season, we have seen so many versions of Fatal Attraction, Was this the first Sci-fi version? Alicia went from the Girl Next Door to extremely scary. Of course we know their story moving foward.
All the leading guys, might have to look into Buffy and Charmed to see if there were any characters from there she dated. Spike aka James joined the show in season 5 but they never dated 😂
Smallville may have run for 11 seasons, but it says everything that we all remember Sarah Carter as Alicia, and all still think about the chemistry that was lighting up the screen with her and Tom! DAMN! I actually used to wonder if she had been a prime contender for the role of Lana before Kristen got the role or if they had to kill the character of Alicia off because the chemistry between Tom and Sarah was so much stronger on screen than Tom and Kristen! Regardless... I don't remember a lot of episodes, but I distinctly remember all of hers! Totally unforgettable!
I didn’t like her the first time. She was competing with Lana who I was emotionally invested in things working out. By the second rewatch of the season, I loved this 💁♂️
Sarah Carter who played Alicia Baker was an excellent guest, with amazing range of sweet, scary, seductive. and obsessive. Episode had great small moments filmed between the Clark and Alicia. If only she wasn't so obsessed. Cant wait to see her come back thou. Awesome Chemistry
🤔 theory: interesting that the elevator in a multi-billion dollar company just happens to fail when the 2 "powered" kids from smallville are in it. Now, the audience doesn't know this yet, but Lionel KNOWS that Clark is special and maybe suspects Alicia. Is it possible that he rigged the elevator accident to see what at least Clark would do?
At 41:13 I agree with Tom because they needed to establish Alicia as the obsessed character before showing her redemption arc. It's possible that the writers had plans for her character's return, but even if they didn't they left the ending open for her to come. Without giving two much away she returns for two more episode and she is not same cruel, obsessive person she was. IMHO without first showing the extreme, the character redemption wouldn't have been as impactful. This situation reminds me of Zuko in the "Last Airbender" animation. Zuko starts as an arrogant, narcissistic bully who cares about no one but himself with only one mission in life, capture the last Airbender, return him to his father and have his title and glory restored, but as the series progresses, he undergoes a significant transformation, ultimately learning to care for others and he and the Airbender would go on to be friends for the next six decades.
It didn't seem to mean much to you guys, but I'll say, remember what Tom says about how he thinks about it like 'if you were to show someone an episode to teach them what the show is, would this be one?' Yes I'm paraphrasing I'll mention here that this episode was the first EVER I saw of Smallville. I didn't even know this show existed before this episode. So for me, catching the beginning where Clark punches through the elevator to stop it, then Alicia teleporting out. THAT was awesome. I was hooked. I went back and watched every episode and also watched from that point on for the rest of the series. While I maybe wouldn't call it my favorite episode, but for a little forshadowing, What happens when she comes back, season 4 I think, Great acting by Tom. One of the very few times in the entire series we see that side of Clark. Chills everytime I watch it. I think Michael will like it alot. Edit: also it's a 2 parter
Alicia was like Gwen Stacy to Tom Wellings Peter Parker.I guess I wasn't the only one who kinda shipped Alicia and Clark.I also thought Alicia should have been featured more.
Like 7 minutes 14 seconds in, bottom right when Tom Welling is talking !! Hahaha what is that ?! It caught my eye and i came to see if anyone else had seen it 😂 Also I love this podcast, im nerding out hard cause Smallville is my all time favorite show 🙌
Great work gents. My 2 favorite Clark love interests were Alicia and Lois. I think it really says something that both actresses were brought back because of the electrifying chemistry with Tom. Special ladies. Before I forget, I remember Tom saying before S4 that Lois would enable them to explore character facets they couldn’t before which is Tom basically saying Clark was finally in scenes where he was allowed to have a personality. I think you saw CK's personality with these two ladies which is why they're so awesome…and the dorkiness Clark has also came out with both ladies which is why I'm a big fan. Plus they’re great Canadian gals.
I absolutely loved Sarah Carter's appearances on Smallville! She is such a phenomenal actor and is able to be super expressive even when keeping her body language subtle. Her smiles were contagious and lit up the room whenever she looked at Clark and the chemistry between them was incredible, I personally felt like none of Clark's future love interests remotely compared afterwards.
I adore Alicia, Sarah Carter is truly disarmingly beautiful and has such a pure and luminous aura that radiates energy from every pore. My absolute love is for Tom, but thanks to Sarah and Erika I discovered my bisexuality. The chemistry between Sarah and Tom is undeniable and tangible from miles away even through a screen. Great show guys, keep up the good work
Love this podcast and y’all. This episode had two film references for me one was the Alfred Hitchcock film 39 steps was referenced in the elevator with the 39 floors. Alecia also had a Fatal Attraction vibe. Sarah did such a great job in her role. You could definitely see Tom’s giddiness. I thought that the elevator scene was well done especially with the special effects. I agree with Tom as I was watching the episode I was wondering why didn’t Lana fight back. She definitely could. Lex’s line that there are other ways to get rid of people was interesting. That final scene with Lionel, Adam, and Dr. Tang was definitely a powerful way to end the show. This is our first time to see John Glover in the show. I loved the reaction that John S had on his face when he saw the two of them together. Love how Lex was giving Clark love advice. Love seeing Clark and Chole working together to stop her. Love this podcast. We definitely need the grip the pole on a shirt.
Obsession has several aspects, Clark is in love and can reveal himself to Alicia, some scenes are charming and funny 💝😍 but there is the whole dark aspect of Alicia’s obsessive and violent love 🖤 beautiful and talented Sarah 💖 ! Good episode, very interesting analysis guys, you’re the best !! 💙❤💖
I loved the story arc of Clark and Alicia! I was so happy for Clark to have someone he could be fully open and honest with. I was so happy when she returned in Season 4 and wished she could have been around for more episodes. Love the podcast!
Why wasn't Clark saving Alicia from the elevator counted in the saves? Was it because they both could have escaped? Since he didn't know she had abilities, I think it should have counted. 🤔🤔🤔
The Brazilian actress carla diaz remember a lot sarah carter and she plays a movie from a criminal true history ( suzane von richtofen) both are great artists.
