Nice to see your updates Michael! If you change the setup, wider containers could make your life easier. It'll save you from the bulbs growing outside is the pot and having to repot so soon. Enjoy your updates.

Hi Michael, thanks for taking a step back to make this more enjoyable and sustainable for you. I'm wondering if you've ever trialed a basket/wick method for semi-hydro. If so, I'd love to hear your comparison, as someone with considerably more experience than myself. I planted 3 Phals in the Gardenera Orchidea Self-Watering Pot (Amazon) 6 weeks ago (leca only). 2 of them have new leaves growing, not sure I have root rot, some algae emerging.

Maybe LECA in self watering? I put LECA in Orchid pots with slits or holes and use a wick, then place that pot in an outer pot with fertilized water in it! Whatever you chose to do, best of luck! 😍😍😍

Hello Michael, thank you so much for your lovely videos. Sorry, you find them a bit stressful! Please know that we live them when released but don't want you to feel pressured. We just enjoy and so should you. I have a green hornet but it hasn't flowered yet. I must do more research! Stay happy xx

I love your skyscraper. She is breathtaking. Maybe place her on the floor so she has more room? Thank you for all the tips. 🥰

Hi Michael! I have had luck with adding in some pumice and lava rock to my LECA for orchids that need more water or have thinner roots than phals. I also put a top layer of smooth river pebbles to keep humidity in the pot up and prevent the dry top layer (might work instead of the moss if you wanted to keep it all inorganic media). Switching to bark might cause some bad transplant shock, similar from going to LECA from bark for some orchids. Best of luck and looking forward to your next update! (Also “the orchid room” channel has some great info for using some alternative inorganic media for semi hydro if your interested).

I have several oncidium alliance plants doing the same thing, growing out of the pot with so many aerial roots, and a couple of cattleyas doing that as well, so I will be intensely interested in seeing what you do with those orchids, and how they do ongoing.

why not take the Aliceara stellar and just set it in a humidity chamber on some barely damp sphagnum? As for your setup, with you work schedule, I'm not sure that changing to a classic setup would be of any benefit. I would be careful and start with just a few. I'm wondering if the best option for most of your plants isn't a self watering setup. You could still use leca, but it would mean no more glass containers. The benefit for you is having a separate reservoir in an outer pot gives a larger volume of water and less risk of the plants going dry for many days. Plenty of people using self watering setups, I think Ninja Orchids has some of the most comprehensive information and she has been very successful with it.
