@@boomds5602 Kids may not understand the concept of evil, but they know when someone isn't a good person. Kids and animals have a sixth sense about people.
Yeah, she was always in a position of being there and taking care of so many members of Keith's family (Lucas, Nathan, Karen) that it was never centered that she lost Keith, too.
@@zackc799 she practically grew up with lucas and worked at karen’s cafe, and therefore was close to keith too. also since keith was a father figure to her childhood best friend.
@@gm.8805 i mean just because youre close with someone doesnt mean youre necessarily close with their parents. She was late to his wake remember (i dont even recall her attending)
Yes, you know you're a gifted actor if you have the Fans sympathizing over you. Michael Zaslow (1944-1998) who played Roger Thorpe on Guiding Light on and off from 1971-1998 until he got fired for having ALS was like that. He was one of the greatest vilians in American Soap History but no matter how bad he was he only wanted to be accepted by his peers. His Mother died, and his Father was a Workaholic with whom he had a complicated relationship with. I would have loved for there to have been a Flashback Episode where we see Dan as an 18 Year Old and the pressures he faced.
This scene just proved haley was the heart of the show the rock that the show revolves around she is old and kind yet fierce and determined she forgives when she wants to be angry I would die a happy man if I had a wife like her
Never thought I'd care about Dan at all. This made me cry. He tried so hard to make amends and become a better man. He knows he screwed up so badly and at least tried to fix it. Went from a cold blooded monster to a loving grandfather.
Ngl I had him manipulate me in the earlier seasons when he would pretend to be a changed man so there were times I had felt bad for him even then but I’m glad at the end he truly made efforts to become a better man.
WordsSaidLikeHabit, sometimes it takes someone like Dan years to change and I’m glad he made an effort. That’s the important thing and he made amends to everybody he had hurt before he went off into heaven with Keith. That’s the perfect way to do it.
@@derekmathews1818 Exactly. Some people like him never try to change. But Dan did. He knew what he did was evil and wrong and put in a lot of effort to fix it as much as it could be. Can't take back the damage but he could at least change himself and love his family while he could.
Cried so hard when Dan died, I know him killing Keith was unforgivable but the way he saved Nathan and loved his grandchildren was lovely ❤️ plus he did slowly start to become a much better person
I agree with you on that. Dan was an ass at the beginning of the show. He kept getting worse than he killed his brother point blank and even bat an eye. After he got out of prison he, like you said, was changing his life. Doing good. I also cried when he died.
I don't think he was ever truly bad He saw what he gave up with Karen and wanted it back that jealously got the better of him and saw how Keith was so close to both Karen and Lucas He only cared for Deb not real love He does love his boys but never admitted it He did show that he did love his grandchildren
right? i understand everyones hatred for him after him murdering Keith but i also felt bad cause he tried so hard to make things right after finding out Deb started the fire and not Keith
I highly agree he did a lot for the show even though we hated him most of the show he really changed!!!! And If it wasn’t for him Luke and Nathen wouldn’t be alive!!!
A few years ago Dan dying was the best thing that could've happened to anyone in Tree Hill. Now, even the show is over, I'm sitting here crying because it's the worst thing that could happen.
This might be an unpopular opinion but I’m happy that Lucas and Karen didn’t come. It’s much more realistic that Lucas couldn’t forgive Dan and refused to come see him one last time. Remember, Dan abandoned Karen and Lucas from the start. He was never a father to him. Aside from some fleeting moments, Lucas never felt fatherly love from Dan, love that Nathan has gotten and felt from Dan. But Keith gave unconditional love to Lucas and Karen from the day Lucas was born and even before that. Keith was Lucas’ dad and the father of his sister. His sister will never know her dad because of Dan. People might say well it might give him closure. Sometimes you just don’t want or need that closure. And Dan really doesn’t deserve that closure from Lucas or Karen for the way he has hurt them. What hurts more than anger and hatred to someone? Utter indifference to their life and that’s what Lucas has towards Dan and in a way, that’s his closure. You can’t expect someone to want to see a man who killed their dad, let alone forgive him, regardless of his motivations or acts of kindness afterwards.
I liked how Dan redeemed himself later on, but I agree 100% that he didn’t deserve closure from Karen and Lucas after how he abandoned them and took Keith who was a father to Lucas and Karen’s fiancé. Especially how he also for the longest time made them think jimmy was the one who killed Keith.
I agree. I'm glad Lucas refused to go. In fact, i think he got his closure exactly by standing his ground and denying dan the forgiveness he didn't deserve
It says a lot about this show that I haven't seen it in maybe 2 or 3 years and then I watch this 3 minute long video and cry. Amazing show with the perfect cast!
omf I met him and my friend and me were like shaking, And my friend was like what if he's mean in real life because he was mean as Dan Scott but Paul Johansson was so sweet 😂😂
This show had the balls to show the grey area of forgiving a freed killer that you are related to....and to add salt in the wound...he killed their beloved family member, his brother. They tackled a HARD issue. Loved that Lucas didn't come, it's so in character.
Maybe because the actor wasn't available but it seems right that Lucas didn't care if he was dying but then there's signs he was feeling sorry for him when the dog ate his heart
This always kills me. Dan Scott was the villian we all needed. And we know he is amazing cause look he makes us freaking cry. He has always been my favorite character. Yes he killed Keith but that was the arch of Dan Scott. He regretted it. He hated that part of him. And we see the changes he makes. Amazing character. Amazing actor.
Well, that officially made me cry. Thanks OTH for making me look like less of a thug than I really am. LOL I'm still hard though. I'll never admit to crying to an episode of OTH (even though I've cried at like 30 of them)
im not one to get emotional at tv shows but I actually shed a few tears watching this episode. I thing what Dan done to keith was horrible but it makes me sad to think that his grandchildren really didn't get to know him as much. no one deserves to die!
I realize Lucas wouldn’t come for Dan’s dying, but one would think he’d show up to see his brother after he’d been missing for months! (I know they couldn’t work it around CMM’s schedule but that always bugged me- they could at least have had a scene where the brothers talked on the phone )
As somebody who lost their grandfather at age where they knew him this scene never fails to break my heart for Jamie though I hated Dan for most of the show this goodbye not only represents him in the best way but also Haley for being able to forgive him and still say that we’re going to make sure that our kids know that their grandfather loved them
u know im actually glad lucas and Karen weren't there because they would just screw up dans final moments with there bullshit stubborn ass hatred of dan lucas is too much of an ass hole to atleast try to find closer with dan I mean u heard haley she talked to him but of course he aint coming and I know for a fact Karen wouldn't forgive him either so I say fuck both of em and let live with tht for the rest of there stubborn ass lives just saying !
Honestly rewatching this show for the second time and I now have a different perspective on Dan. I felt so bad for him, his brother slept with his wife and he thought Keith tried to kill him. I feel like he was so misunderstood.
Another thing that is glossed over is Dan heard Keith say "I bought the gun and planned to use it" to Jimmy in the school hallway. Because moments later it was revealed Dan was just around the corner. Deb also set a whole dealership on fire to kill him, had alcohol abuse, slapped a high school student, slapped her husband, and brought a loaded gun into Karen's Cafe.
This was a great scene because it showed no matter how much of a monster a person can be they have the ability to come back from the darkness of even only for one last act of good
This was such a sad scene! Dan was a bad guy, but unfortunately it were to late when he turned good! he got his forgiveness but again it took so long & came to this!
Dan has such a great story arc. He started out as a jerk, then when he kills Keith he crosses the line into true evil. And once he does that, he realizes how awful his actions have been and starts trying to redeem himself. He stopped being a villain in that sense. It's rare that the villain of a show realizes how terrible they are and spends the rest of the show trying to make amends.
It's sucks that When things were getting good like Dan finally becoming a good person and actually getting the chip off his shoulder about Keith and reaching the light on the other side, and got close to his son again. But he had to die :(
Haley has such a big heart even after all the things in the people she lost she had it in her heart to forgive in give dan the opportunity to be in his grandkids life and give Jamie the opportunity to have his grandfather in his life
I think they should have did something where Lucas showed up and had Hailey say “thought you weren’t coming.” And Lucas say “it’s what Keith would have wanted.” They definitely should have had deb confess to Lucas what happened and why he thought Keith tried to kill Dan.
@Whatever Uh, I feel like you're missing a huge reason why he was such a hated character. He did a lot of things on the show that warranted hating him, including murdering his own brother then try to cover it up
1:27 Those were real tears from Bethany Joy Lenz, she was in love with Dan Scott actor Paul Johansson, she dated him in real life a couple of times, but they broke up.
