Randy studied classical style guitar and blended his style with his solos with perfection. He started with Quiet Riot and joined Ozzy for only two amazing albums. After his death he was rated number one guitarist for eight years in popular rock magazines. He will remain number one with me for most influential guitarist of all time

Randy Rhoads was one of the best of all time. He died in a plane crash at the age of 25. If you listen to more ozzy during this period, you can hear the great Randy Rhoads. He was a classically trained pianist and picked up the guitar and transfered his energies into the guitar. Listen to "YOu can't kill rock and roll" and you will understand the greatness of Randy Rhoads. He was Ozzy's best friend and "saved" him after he got fired from Black Sabbath. Ozzy's vocals and Randy's guitar work crafted some of the finest hard rock music of the time.

No, he wasn’t classically trained on piano. His mother taught him to a limited degree where he could pick out harmonies and make chords for songs. Not much of that other than maybe perfect pitch and harmony transferred over. It was when he started training in classical guitar that he got his classical vibe. It was about a year after he started, that his music teacher came to his mother telling her that he had taught randy everything that he knew. jasobrecht.com/randy-rhoads-delores-rhoads-interview/ - Source from interview with his mother

This song is about Aleister Crowley, a British practitioner of black magic in the early 1900s. Known as "The Wickedest Man Alive," Jimmy Page based some of the Led Zeppelin album covers on his work. The song helped Ozzy play up his mock-Satanic image, which he often did for effect. This his something he did in his band Black Sabbath, who likened their music to horror movies.

The guitar God you just witnessed, Randy Rhoads, is easily top 10. He is one the biggest influences on my playing and so many others. the muffling your hearing is the combination of ozzys birmingham, uk accent & the effects that he uses to get the specific tone you hear... that and this was early 80s so the tech used to play the song and record it is ancient, contributing to the degraded sound.... to randy rhoads fans, myself included, this recording is sacred, holy even... \\m// rip rr

I love how Ozzy seemed to love to watch his own band play and seemed to chuckle because he couldn't believe that he was playing with those guys. As for the band, those were all incredible musicians, great bass player, great drummer and the larger than life Randy Rhoads. Randy unfortunately died in a plane accident that was a prank gone wrong. His work has inspired so many guitar players that are huge today, it's unreal. He certainly was a master of his craft. Incredibly skilled with an impeccable taste. Great note selection, great phrasing and melody building. Randy was something else. The thing is, with his classic guitar training he speaks to a wide audience which makes it perfect to get other people into metal.

It was cool you pointed out how Randy played the guitar like an orchestra. He was classically trained in guitar. He had even told Ozzy he no longer wanted to play rock and roll music and wanted to move onto playing classical music. His mother was a well known classical music instructor. The man who taught Randy how to play told his mother he had taught Randy everything he could and Randy had simply grown into something he pretty much was not qualified to be instructing anymore. I can only imagine the work he would have put out had he lived a longer life. You could hear his progression as a guitarist from the Blizzard of Ozz album to the Diary or a Madman album.

Part of the reason this had that raw sound was because Ozzy coming off being fired put this band together, they needed songs to tour, they actually hit the studio and pumped out both Blizzard of Oz and Diary of a Madman at the same time so they had songs to play live. The released them separately but when they played here, they were a really new band, playing a song they haven't played thousands of times. Good call on noticing the rawness.

The thing about RR is that he's one of those rare people who changed music in almost no time. He only performed on 2 studio albums, yet his work is considered groundbreaking. His tone, use of classical scales, technical precision, the man was on his own planet. And nobody has ever sounded like him again. React to Over the Mountain or Diary of a Madman. He was on fire in Diary. Revelation has a sick outro. Steal Away is another one. RR kills it on that one.

When Ozzy was having guitarists audition for his solo band, most the guitarists we're just trying to play like Tony Iommi from Sabbath, but Randy was a classical guitarist and auditioned using his acoustic guitar, and Ozzy immediately wanted him in the band. He always incorperated his classical style into the metal he played, so that's why it might almost sound like an orchestra when he plays.

Not sure if I understood your question right concerning strings in general vs the guitar in particular but my 2 bits there: There are some crazy skilled musicians on whichever instrument you pick. Stéphane Grappelli, Giles Apap, and Paganini (too bad he died before anyone got the idea of recording anything at all but he was his time's rock super star) on violin can easily compare, musicianwise, to Randy Rhoads here, or Malmsteen for that matter. Mozart on the piano was a rock'n'roll monster in his days together with many classical composers. I'm pretty sure if Paganini or Mozart lived today, they too would have ridiculous outfits on stage with fans screaming down on the floor to the blistering display of skills.

Girls were following him everywhere and trying to steal his shit like handkerchiefs and fainting at his concerts or even when he looked at them. lol Pretty crazy stuff if you take into account it was 19 century and they were all pretty much high society (he didn't play for peasants) with very restricted code of behaviour and shit.

Sir, I really appreciate what RU-vidrs like you are doing with reactions videos because it broadens the Outlook on all music genres as a whole, and people should at least have an appreciation for all art forms of the craft, especially the art of shredding ( all my metal heads out there will know why I used that phrase ) and true greatness out of bands like pantera, or Metallica or Megadeth to name just a few came from a long line of musical influences from great artists and musicians like the ones you reacted to in this video. The growth of music we all love and cherish today would have been impossible without such influences. And any musician on the planet should agree with me when I say that if you ever, EVER!! Cut off a Randy Rhoads solo like that again, may the metal gods strike you dumb, deaf and blind so that you may never enjoy a single musical note again in your life! Completely unexceptable! And I'm going easy on you by saying this to help you in the future so this act of ignorance isn't misconstrued as blatant disrespect, I'm not as angry as most will be because i realize you dont know any better, your new to this area of music which some people take very seriously. I'm asking you to please be careful about doing things like this because it is like Blasphemy in some circles and I like your videos and want to continue viewing them but I would rather you bitch slap my mother than watch you commit another unspeakable act like this. Again, I respect what you are doing and i appreciate your videos but this world was only blessed with great musicians like Randy Rhoads, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray and Dimebag for a very short time unfortunately, so show them the respect they deserve! Thank you..

The guitarist Randy Rhoads, in my opinion, was a pioneer and one of the all time greats even though he died early. Crazy outfits in metal back in the 80's

Quite a few of the shredders on guitar were big fans of Niccolò Paganini from the late 1700's/early 1800's and you can hear his influence to this day whether they are aware of it or not as many of their hero's were fans of him.

Randy Rhodes played violin and many other stringed instruments. He also studied classical music which is where he gets his beautiful melodies. He was a monster. And the bass line was written by one of the best in the business. If not for Randy and the bass player, OZZY's solo career would not have happened.

Probably mentioned earlier Randy is a classically trained guitarist. He learned guitar to play classically before getting in rock. One huge tip off is how he comes down on the string and fret straight down for the cleanest sound. I saw a show on Randy that said he was planning on leaving Oz and return to school to get his degree in classical music (guitar). Love his playing!! Even Ozzy is taken by what was happening at the end! Every city they went to Randy would look up a guitar teacher. He said everyone could teach him something new.

Randy Rhodes was a classically trained guitarist, learned classical guitar from his Mother who was classically trained musician. When Randy started playing rock music with his band Quiet Riot he incorporated a lot of his classic guitar into his playing. You are right, the scales and arpeggios used by classic guitarists and violinists are somewhat the same. Randy Rhodes and his first band played a lot of the same clubs that Van Halen played in So Cal back in the late seventies, so both Eddie Van Halen and Randy Rhodes got to see each other play a lot, they have very similar styles.

Randy was a God, beyond Heavy Metal. He grew up in his parents music school and taught classical guitar to a lot of people out there. A lot of the biggest guitarist were influenced by him. I'm an Ozzy Fan, but even will tell you he wouldn't have made it through his first two solo albums without Randy. RU-vid Randy Rhoads Biography and lot will come up, or Randy Rhoads Influence. Peace.

Not a lot of people know this, this was recorded live for a tv show. Tommy (drums) and Randy (guitar) kept adlibing fills and runs. You even see them exchange glances signifying the game. Towards the end, Randy breaks from the normal solo and they both go off on the totally improvised outro. Even Ozzy can be seen looking at the two of them like....wtf?? Truly unknown moment. Oh, by the way, it's pronounced like brow lee. Like eyebrow. Alistair Crowley, an alchemists in early 19th century. He's only known as the wickedest man ever because that's what the hypocritical churches labeled him as.

I miss Randy. Hands down one of the best guitarists to ever live. It was a massive tragedy when he died so young. Ozzy still can’t talk much about Randy even today without losing it. They were best friends and Randy is essentially responsible for Ozzy not going down a hole of drug abuse and likely dying after Black Sabbath.

Randy Rhoads the guitar player of this band. Is an incredibly accomplished musician. His mother was a classically trained musician and she taught him. He went on to teach other people. He joined the band Quiet Riot. And then left Quiet Riot to perform with Ozzy Osbourne. He taught Ozzy Osbourne many things how to sing in the correct key. How to transpose music. He is actually a legitimate music master. And your question was absolutely 100% legitimate... unfortunately we lost him to a plane crash I believe in nineteen ninety two or three

Randy Rhoads combined the techniques and scales used to play Bach or Beethoven with metal guitar. Dude was a musical and technical genius on the guitar. Listen to the song "Dee" off the same album to see a completely different side of Randy Rhoads, he wrote it for his mom.

Guitarist was using some of the classical music runs and progressions as part of his solo, Eddie Van Halen would also use classical music in his solos sometimes. Some groups will do classical music with contemporary instruments, Jethro Tull did Bouree, Frank Zappa did Bolero. Good musicians can use all music as inspiration.

RRT, Hey I know this is several years after you posted, but I just came across your reaction video of mr. crowley. The song is about Aleister Crowley, an occultist from Britian. He at one time practiced magik (he spelled it with a k). I don't know much about the man. As for your question about the violins and orchestra, that is the classical sound that Randy Rhoads brought to guitar playing in heavy metal. Keen observation on your part. Randy was definitely a musician and artsit, not just a guitar player. His mother had taught him and his siblings at a young age. She had a school where she taught, It is still around today, and run by Randy's brother and sister. I am amazed at how inovative he was at playing gutiar. He was certainly like no other, and heavily influenced at lot of guitar players. He never thought that he arrived, and always wanted to continue to grow and learn classical music.

I am a cellist and i would say biggest difference with guitars and classical string instruments is guitars have frets. So as long as you press the string in between the frets you will be in tune as long as the string itself is in tune. With classic instruments you have to hold the string down in the correct place for the note to be in tune which ups the difficulty. Want to hear some amazing violin check out vivaldis summer. Very difficult and fast violin.

Great review right here. I feel like everything you said was very honest because you just don't know much about the band or the instruments. That is not an insult, you come across as genuine. Some funny comments in there too. To answer your question about guitar vs violin - the guitatist in this video is one of the greatest of all time. The way he played was, in my opinion, beyond what you will see from even world-famous concert violinists or other symphony/orchestra musicians. Not only does he have to write every note he plays, play it perfectly at virtuoso level, but he changed the way people play guitar until this day. At the time of his death he actually had plans to go back to college to study classical guitar so he would have been one of those symphony musicans playing alongside violinists and cellists. About the bass, i believe thats rudy sarzo in the video. He toured with Ozzy but didn't write those bass lines. He was renowned for his playing ability but not so much writing.
@ronnieeagleandthealchemist2333
There's a Rush song named "Losing It" and it has electric violin as a lead instrument. There's some live shots from a recent tour of theirs that has some good audio, or check out the album version or official live version from their R40 tour release of the song Losing It.
