Panic attacks and anxiety attacks are often used as interchangeable words. But are they really the same thing? And if not, what are the actual differences between an anxiety attack and a panic attack. In this video I'll go over the clinical definitions from the DSM-5 (the diagnostic manual we use in the US) and the real life ways we use these words.

I lost my wife to cancer, and now I suffer from depression, anxiety, and PTSD. I experienced my first panic attack during a routine doctor appointment. The panic attack began when the nurse checked my blood pressure. My heart rate was so high that she had to check it manually. I started feeling like the room was closing in on me, so I asked for the door to be opened. Shortly after, I got up and left the office. Once I reached outside the hospital, an overwhelming feeling of relief washed over me, and I felt my body slowly starting to relax.

Can you explain the egg in the throat?
@theacttherapist
@theacttherapist 9 месяцев назад
Absolutely. It's a physical sensation some people experience during panic attacks. It feels like there is an object in your throat, usually right above your collar bone. People describe it as a lot of tension in that area. Some folks tend to swallow a lot in an effort to make the sensation go away which usually draws more attention to that area. Keep in mind, when you experience this your airway is completely open and there is nothing blocking it or restricting it, but someone might feel like they have an egg-sized shape in their throat. Practicing grounding/present moment exercises can be helpful. Directing your attention to other more neutral areas can also help.
