If you can’t afford it don’t get it. Plain and simple. Parents can give whatever they want but it shouldn’t be an expectation

These days, it seems wise to live together to find out if you're compatible. Yet the courts frown upon and no longer honor Common Law relationships.

We eloped! Celebrating our 7th anniversary in November. I love that man!! ❤️ we said eff it to the traditional wedding and head ache. I still haven’t found a flaw in our plan.

What's the point of a rehearsal dinner? Seems like wasted money.

I live in Australia; never heard of a rehersal dinner other than an informal pay your own way dinner at a pub leading upto wedding.

Why couldnt they go without or wait until they have their finance. My hubby and I got married with no reception, had ceremony and took pics. I was a Uni student casual job and my hubby worked fulltime, no way I wanted us to get into debt, we loved it, so simple and no debt. 21 years later I will still do the same thing.

Question: is it a law that states that grooms side should pay for rehearsal dinner and brides side should pay for the wedding in the USA? because if I heard the judge state that brides parents pay should pay for the wedding and grooms parents should pay for the rehearsal dinner.

With the parents I’ve seen on Judge Judy, I’m overly grateful for my mother. I don’t think I would ever sue my child, but hey to each his own.

All these silly, expensive weddings. Had mine in a backyard. It was $1,500 for the entire thing, including my dress (I’m 41). Edit: The marriage lasted 18 years. That’s a pretty long marriage for the modern age, but not what I hoped.

I never understood why a parent is expected to pay for a wedding that's absurd

That’s the risk you take when you fork out thousands upon thousands of dollars on a wedding, knowing that it is money you will likely not see a return on via a successful, lasting marriage. Then, it is a huge waste of money inviting so many people whom you will not likely even have time to keep up with after starting your new life. Many people just want to come to snap photos for their social media posts, enjoy an open bar, a fancy meal and a luxury hotel stay, turning it into a vacation. Never about celebrating the couple’s milestone. Better to have a very, very, very small ceremony with just the immediate family and maybe one close friend and keep the ceremony and reception intimate.

The last wedding I went to was that of a multi-millionaire. The venue was his backyard. The food was ribs cooked by the best man and sides from Costco. Beer and Soda were in coolers filled with ice. He’s somehow just as a married as this couple that spent money they didn’t have.
