Part II: Hysterectomy & Excision Surgery Prep

After years of ‘dealing’ with painful periods, recurring GI issues, and chronic pain, I will be having a hysterectomy and excision surgery for suspected endometriosis & adenomyosis. In today’s video I explain how I'm preparing my body and surroundings for recovery. Unfortunately, these chronic conditions are still drastically underrepresented in society, but by sharing and being open about this situation I hope you feel less alone. I’m extremely grateful to the friends, family, and medical professionals who have helped/are helping me navigate this process. Please be patient with us if there is a slight lull in our regular content.

After my surgery the 45 minute car ride home was the worst. But I don’t wake up from anesthesia too well. If I could recommend anything it would be to have something squishy you can hug on your way back home. Something with a comforting smell like your pillow or a blanket. Good luck, I hope you recover quickly!

We have to drive 3 hours home after, agh! Dreading it but I got an abdominal pillow for the car and we are staying an extra night after in a hotel so I can have another day of rest before the trip. Wish me luck!

@@AnaDiaz-wz4cf well. They didn't find much endo during my lap, but did find adenomyosis. I asked for hysterectomy but they are forcing me to wait until October to discuss it again bc "I'm too young" even though I don't want children. I had a cystoscopy at the same time and have had bladder problems ever since. So it's kind if been a mess 😮‍💨 the surgery day and recovery itself was the easy part. Thank you for asking

Definitely bring a pillow for the way home so you can press it against your incision for bumps. Keep one with you at all times and press it firmly against your incision for coughs, sneezes, laughter, or straining to poop. Love, she who had 3 c-sections and a tummy tuck!

I had a robot-assisted hysterectomy almost a decade ago, at age 32-ish, for a lot of the same reasons you're going to. The biggest help to me in surgery recovery was a pillow to hug, at hand always. Also, it felt a bit like my organs were sliding around inside me a little bit, which was weird but not gross or concerning: things were just readjusting. Having the surgery at a relatively young age was immensely freeing to me. I have had zero regrets about going through with it, and when you realize you haven't had to go down "that aisle" at the store in months...bliss! I wish you a speedy and complication-free recovery. Welcome to the club.

Hi Danielle-I just had a full hysterectomy (DaVinci lapro)this June... Best thing ever! I am not going to lie, I was sore for the first week and half, don't over do it and no lifting or deep bends. Quick tip for you...I used a peri bottle-squirted (warm water) when I had to use the restroom (#1) it helped the burning sensation (from having the cath). You got this! Good Luck! If I had to do it again, I would :-)

Me, sitting here as a Virgo, over preparer...watching alllll the videos i can find of hysterectomy preparation. I'm having my surgery 2 days before my bday this month, on Sept 19th, and it's LONG OVERDUE. I've had endometriosis since I was in high school and then began having issues with extreme menstrual bleeding all of sudden back in Dec 2022. I have an IUD in place to help with controlling my period and my endo symptoms, so the sudden return of my period and it being *that heavy* was def not normal for me. I chalked it up to being an indication of premenopause because of hearing other friends going theough similar experiences when they were heading towards menopause about the same age. Then...in April my body decided to basically throw out what was no holds barred. I wound up in the ER with my blood pressure bottomed out at 64/35 and my labs just high enough that i didnt need a transfusion. They admitted me for observation and to run IV fluids because i was definitely dehydrated (i had been horribly nauseated for two days and had not eaten; I had been drinking lots of water, but i was in so much pain i was sweating out almost as fast as i was trying to take in). I found out then that i have two uterine fibroids: one is 10 cm and one is 6cm. So, because of their size, we wknt be able to do a laparoscopic surgery, it will have to be an open abdominal surgery. Depending on what they find when they get in there, that will determine whether they will remove my ovaries & fallopian tubes, too.

Oh my gosh, I am getting a hysterectomy in 2 weeks for an 11 cm fibroid and I can’t wait to get this out of me, the dr said my uterus is the same size as if I was 5 months pregnant, I can’t imagine if I had another 6 cm fibroid in there hanging out!!! Girl!! I hope you are doing well ❤
@tinamarie2121
@tinamarie2121 6 месяцев назад
@@lizb2637 I feel SO MUCH better!! I hope your surgery goes well! I couldn't believe how much better I felt within such a short time after surgery. It did end up being everything except for one ovary: my surgeon left one ovary intact in order to save me from needing hormones after surgery (fingers crossed that I won't need them for a while!); we thought originally that one of the fibroids was attached to the outside of my uterus but it was actually a mass on one of my ovaries (benign mass confirmed by pathology) which is obviously why that one was removed. Highly recommend taking your stool softeners that they suggest after surgery, and for the first few days after surgery, whatever pain meds they give you, take them right on schedule - don't wait until you are in severe pain or else it's hard to get it under control and makes them almost useless. Since I did that, I truly only needed them for a few days. Plus, they were making me so sleepy I couldn't stand taking them much longer.

Sending you all the best!!! You are so well prepared - not only with all of these things, but you seem to be mentally & physically prepared. You seem like a weight has been lifted from you already. You're ready. It's the right thing to do. Fuck you to that evil uterus (LOVING the shirt btw)! Thank you so much for sharing your struggles, your journey so far & this INCREDIBLE post-surgery prep list! I wish I had thought of some of this when I had my mastectomy. I guess if I have anything to recommend from my own post-surgery experience is to take this time to explore new things. Obviously don't start marathon running or something, but I found an interest in genealogy entirely by accident one bored day & I really enjoyed it. I don't think I could have told you what genealogy was before then. Maybe watch a TV show you might not otherwise, or read a book that's wildly different from your usual interests. You never know what you might discover...or rediscover. And if you hate something, obviously give up on it. There's not much to lose. That's the beauty! Anyway, sending all the best wishes for the surgery & your recovery. I'm so, so happy for you!!!

The ride home seemed longer than 45 minutes and we also had to pick up my meds before we came home. Have a pillow to sit on and one to hug. I also had a throw up bucket because anesthesia just doesn’t agree with me. Be prepared to lay back and don’t sit up straight for too long. I also sat on a heating pad and kept one across my lap. I was very sore for about a week and a half.

Danielle, blessings and positive energy to you as you prepare and undergo your surgical procedure! If it helps, I have had a full hysterectomy. For me, at 30 something, it seemed that I no sooner was anesthetized, that I was awake and everything was over! If you become, or even feel that the anesthesia may induce nausea and/or vomiting, please ask the anesthetist to include an anti-nausea med. in your drip while you are under. I learned the hard way that I am very reactive to anesthesia, and post surgery ended up throwing up approx. 25 times! It was a very miserable experience after undergoing a laparoscopic hysterectomy to say the very least! 🤢😩🤮. Also, as you alluded to, the bloating and gas pressure the night of surgery was for REAL! Probably the 2nd most uncomfortable symptom post surgery after heaving so many times after the procedure. Otherwise, I was up and at it (as I had two little ones under foot) the next day, doing way more than I was supposed to be doing. I look back now and wish I hadn’t worked myself up worrying and being anxiety ridden. For me, it just wasn’t worth putting myself thru the wringer leading up to my surgery! You’ve got this, and I’m sure you have done your due diligence to place your well being in the most capable! God’s choicest blessings to you! Will be praying that you have the best ever outcome! ❤️❤️❤️🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

I had a Myomectomy a month ago. I had no pain after, but I did get Ileus (lazy bowel), which was the worst. But I'm much better now. I'm also still dealing with GERD from not eating before and after surgery

I think you'll do great - you're totally prepared. My 73 year old mom had this surgery last year after finding a baseball sized ovarian tumor and it was much less recovery than we expected. Best of luck!

I am so excited for you! I had my hysterectomy almost 2 years ago and it is unbelievable how much better I feel (I had fibroids and like you knew something was wrong but suffered for a very long time). You are very prepared and organized! The only thing I would recommend is getting an abdominal binder. I wore mine daily after my surgery until it was too big and didn’t really fit anymore. I wish you the speediest recovery! P.S. After your surgery will probably be the only time you’re happy to have the walking farts, lol.

Hope your surgery went well...thinking of you. I had a cold knife cone biopsy of my cervix on October 1st under general anesthesia bc my pap smear and a biopsy came back with high-grade abnormal cells (HSIL is the acronym). Basically my dr removed part of the outer and inner cervix all around. I had some abnormal cells on my vaginal wall too that created some kind of lesion. I have my post-op follow up tomorrow (October 28th...technically today now since it's 12:15am). Luckily I found out it was precancerous cells and not the big C. Don't know why I just shared all that. I feel like people with lady-part issues don't often talk about it. I didn't exactly tell people I was having pretty bad cramping, bleeding, etc for the 1st time in 6 years (since my birth control pill switched and I stopped getting periods in 2015!) So thank you for even talking about this!! I sooo appreciate it.

Agree that scents are helpful. When walking into room for Cat Scan (I am terribly claustrophobic!), I smelled Vanilla. Asked for permission to rub BBW Vanilla Beal Noel under my nose! It helped tremendously & I am a fan! Also used your link to buy plush hot water doohinkey for my niece-in-law who suffers terrible cramps! Godspeed!

Hi Danielle. Love that you are sharing your journey. Hopeful you can do it all laparoscopically. But if they end up having to do a full cut, I was saved by a belly band from Hyster Sisters . I have been through the exact same thing and am now doing so well. You got this girl. I ended up needing hormones but I tried to mimicked a natural menopause and was on them for only 3 years. Going less and less each 6 month period...pun intended. Lol.Thoughts and prayers for you.

I had robotic hysterectomy 10 days ago and I will tell u the first 2 days were hell and the only thing that gave me relief was a heating pad on my back.I will say I only took one oxycodone at the hospital before leaving and took nothing else for pain because my pulse rate and oxygyn level dropped very low so i was scared to take anything.It all normalized on the 3 day.Also i was expecting to hurt in my stomach but nope it was really horrible back pain.Again heating pad to the back helped me.Do not put a heating pad on your stomach u need ice for that.Oh and I did not need really any pads.I lightly spotted for 2 days then nothing.

When I had a uterine ablation and a tubal ligation, the one thing they didn't tell me was that my entire abdomen was painted up with Betadine. I shuffled home and dropped into bed for 24 hours out cold before I realized. I ended up with a rash for a month from it. Maybe it was just me, but get someone to gently clean that off you sooner than later. Good luck! I wish you a speedy recovery!

Omg I had that happen to me too, ever since that happened every surgery I have baby wipes ready to wipe myself down and take that off. I don’t get why they don’t focus on removing it while you are under? 😆

My hysterectomy is October 27th 2023. I have a lot of pre op meds to take plus day before surgery miralax and gatorade. Antibiotics I have to take 3 times the day before. I also will be having a bladder mesh sling and pelvic floor physical therapy. I'm ready to get it over with.
