The trial of Parti Liyani rocked Singapore and brought down Liew Mun Leong, one of Singapore’s most powerful businessmen. She had been accused of stealing from members of the Liew family, and a first trial convicted her. This sentence was then overturned in the High Court. Serious questions were raised in the High Court judgement about the police handling of the investigation and the conduct of the first trial. Dr Stephanie Chok, a H.O.M.E. (www.home.org.sg/) volunteer who has been part of the team supporting Parti Liyani from the beginning of her ordeal, gives PJ Thum an inside view on the case, the possible mishandling of the investigation by the police, the problems with the trial, and how this is not an isolated incident but related to broader structural issues plaguing Singapore.

Yes you are right, good judges are assets to the country. When Lord Denning made a judgement , his written judgement was in the hundreds of pages and the lawyers and social workers would make a beeline to obtain copies to learn from this learned judge. It is good to learn that Singaporeans are now taking a stand for the downtrodden. Well done, keep it up!

Does that mean that Liew Mun Leong lied to the police/court? What about his legal rep who did a "slide of hands" in front of a high court judge? Nothing happens to them? Any statements from our ministers condemning this kind of injustice? I am totally disheartened. How can this be happening in Singapore? You know what will be more atrocious? If nothing happens to these evil accusers of Parti Liyani!! JUSTICE JUSTICE JUSTICE!!!!!!!!

At one point I felt so shameful being a Singaporean but after watching the entire length of the video, I was so humbly grateful by what you guys did standing in solidarity to support and protect the less privileged from power abuse, exploitation and the uncompromising effort in upholding justice and freedom of speech despite challenges ! Our leaders must take the correct actions if they want Singaporeans to hold them in high regards. Liew Mun Leong should be dealt with by the law . Many Singaporeans are greatly incensed of feet-dragging in bringing Mr Liew and his son, Karl, to account for their criminal offences. A precedent must be cast in iron so that even the top Executives of public and private entities shall not be spared when it comes to the Rule of Law. This way a society will improve for the better. There should be NO CLOSURE until justice is carried out. The whole world is watching closely.

This matter should have been set for independent enquiry instead of internal review and the Minister making the statement. Obviously the Parliament will argue, query and vote in favour of the minister's findings and solution.

Who knows how many injustice had happened and how many were wrongly convicted and sentence even though they are innocent. We might never know. Base of the jokers and Idiots in our Judiciary system, it's hard to think that this is a one off thing.

To call this disgusting would be a gross understatement. Even if the AGC prosecutes the Liews for lying to a civil servant, they still have a lot to answer for. But that is assuming they have the temerity to acknowledge their mistakes.. And what is even more worrying is former District Judge Olivia Low is now working for the AGC. Hmm....

I would salute Mr Chan Seng Onn, the High Court judge. I see him as our Justice Pao{ the incorru incorruptible magistrate of ancient China. Even the Emperor/Empress respected and revered Justice Pao for his impartiality in court cases. Finally, the spirit of Justice Pao has prevailed in Mr Chan Seng Onn. My sincere salute to him cos he brings honour and respect back to our judiciary, in my opinion. Never let a rotten apple destroy the good ones.

Stephanie and gang deserves a public service medal. None coming from the PAP. Any international NGOs out there have one to spare? Liew and son derserves to be prosecuted for perjury. Yet, Temasek makes a statement glorifying his contributions to Singapore. No son of LKY is a fool. LHL needs to reconsider his leverage while there is still time. I say send the conceited, elitist, self-aggrandizing fools packing before they destroy LKY's legacy and a people he loved.

Covid-19 and Ms. Parti’s case make Singaporean realises how bad some people treated their migrants worker ! They are the person that feed, clean and build your nation... she may raises some of your children the future scientist or the HDB buildings where you staying at are being built by them. So sad how developed country treat their migrant workers with poor living environment and unfairly treated these migrants workers.

Appreciate the really great effort in making this program. just a suggestion, wonder is possible to create a "condensed" version so that busy people can finish watching the "essence" of the program in 20-30minutes time. Alternatively, divide the program into parts with title and some brief description of each part so that people may decide to select the part which they are more interested to watch. not sure is there better ways to help those who are interested but cannot spare1.5hour of time.

Parti need to stay back for several reasons, 1. To open out the police investigation works whether the police investigating officer have done the investigation works diligently and we with integrity. 2. Now the Liew family have made a False police report, the top management police officer and AGC, should charge Liew family for making False police reports. 3. The Liew family who is the plaintiff have lie in court and perhaps the two prosecutor must be quiry for their we works of integrity. 4. The Law society should look into the professional Act and the integrity of the lawyer represent the plaintiff. 5. Now the plaintiff ie Liew family have Lie under the Swear Oath of the Court. This is consider as Perjury. So the High Court should issue a Court order to charge the Plaintiff without fail. Nobody can freely abuse the Laws to accused or abuse anybody. Laws is equally right for both party. Everybody must be abide to Laws and Orders in regardless who they all . Even the politicians and any high profile people including the Court judges are abide with Laws and Orders.

Normally, most of them are not so lucky, due to communication breakdown and stresses to go throughout the hearing....Wow! 4 years! The employer still paid all the courts fees and manpower wasted due to their lies. Yet they dun get any criminal offenses. Only the son got for false statement. What about LML?

The lower court judge failed miserably in her job to deliver justice, especially to the underprivileged. The government needs to consider if she is still fit as a judge. Her ignoring severe irregularities in the evidence despite pointed out by the defence shows her partiality to those in power.

This can happen anywhere in govt or public location. Some people were victimised in govt department like SAF POLICE NEA LTA without proper conduct thru their yearly appraisal, where peoe are blavkmark and was not promoted for for 20 or 30 years. These ppl are left to the bottom rack for years where the top management never do a fair judgment for their advancement in their careers

To be fair , there are domestic maids who play punk on their employers too . I have a friend who gotten a maid , used hot water on herself in order to lied and say it was the employer who did this on her to seek compensation . There are good ones and black sheeps

Tanks for the conversation which made us understand wht's goin on wth Ibu Parti's case in Singapore. Me as Indonesia just wonder when found the local news portal said that prominent bussinessman in Spore has to step down because of Indonesian maid. But at least I just realize that even in Spore, which long before mostly all of us as Indonesian admire as role model for law enforcement and justice system. Even when we visit some residence cluster which develop by privat developer here in Jakarta, where the area are neat, clean, well organised, and everything based on rule, we call it as Singapore standard. But when heard it case, then we think, ok, even Spore has their own problem. Which no longer somehow to be admire of. that their justice system has their own problem. but for us at least their high court still had moral standard and do justice. Hope someday we find some news that all the prosecutors, officers, judges or else who made wrongdoing been charged, then we take Singapore as it used to be, a country to be admired. Something that Indonesia someday shall be achieve as well.

Seriously, how many Singaporeans are deprived of justice, there are countless Singaporeans wrongly arrested and have no access to any conduits for fair justice and yet an Indonesian maid has upper hand of Singapore justice system! It has been almost more than a year, I have been trying to find justice for unlawful action against me. Though, I was simply let go by the authorities, the anguish and permanent trauma I am still undergoing along with nightmares have not been addressed and there's no access to file a case against these authorities. Why are there no one addressing to abuse of power on Singaporeans nor are there anywhere for Singaporeans to turn to? It is all well to give platform to non Singaporeans when turning a blind eyes to our people . Dr Thum, take a little closer look on your fellow men.

Many democratic countries in Europe has cases which has been overturned constantly, this case with Patri Liyani isn't new. Having patri's case overturned means that our goverment is benevolent and transparent, and wants to make changes constantly, in order to renew our laws and society.The maid comes from a highly corrupted country, you think her countty may give her justice in similar circumstances as Singapore has? How about saying thank you to our government?

Strange 'whataboutism'! Based on rule of law the Liews committed a crime! The SPF, AG & DPP were incompetent and colluded with the Liews to pervert justice, and ergo are criminally corrupt! Awaiting the case against the Liews and disciplinary proceedings against the CIVIL SERVANTS involved in this case!
