About the Pepperball Lifelite
As full-time RVers, we are often asked about personal safety out on the road. As former law enforcement, Marc is very familiar with both lethal and non-lethal weapons, having used and been trained in firearms, tasers and pepper spray. So when Pepperball Lifelite reached out to us and asked us to review this product, we were very interested to test it out and share our experience and thoughts here with you in this review.
The Pepperball Lifelite is a huge step forward in personal defense weapons. The ability to shoot pepper irritant filled balls over 60 feet at a threat dramatically increases your safety whether it is a two legged or four legged aggressor. The Pepperball Lifelite can be carried with you just about anywhere because it is, and looks like a common flashlight, so you can have it in your hand for quick use if needed. Pepper balls are launched using CO2 cartridges, similar to a paintball gun, and are filled with powder that can spread up to 12 feet when they burst on impact. This means that you don’t need to have a direct hit to have significant impact. The laser site is activated when you remove the safety to expose the trigger to help you easily aim, and the laser alone may deter an aggressor. The Lifelite carries up to five projectiles and has semi-automatic trigger, so you can fire multiple times if needed. It is easy to load and unload and can be stored in easy to access locations because it is not as dangerous as a firearm. The pepper irritant will have severe impact for five minutes, and significant impact up to 15 minutes allowing you a lot of time to exit to safety. Being a non-lethal weapon, you can carry the Pepperball Lifelite in all 50 states, unlike firearms. However, California and New York do have restrictions (check your state laws) so when traveling through CA and NY, use the inert projectiles instead of the pepper-filled balls. If you are looking for a self defense weapon to increase your safety, the Pepperball Lifelite is a huge advancement and very hard to beat.

Thanks so much, Marc and Julie! We watch your RV vids but didn't realize you had this one as well. I first found out about this product from the Sept 2019 MotorHome magazine - a 2 page article on this after their article on Traveling with Guns. As the wife, I prefer something I can manage...my CCW expired some time ago, and with arthritis developing in my hands and finger joints, I really don't feel confident with my pistol skills any more. This seems like the answer for me. I've read all the comments (and inserted my 2cents here and there), and so I have no further questions - they've all been answered. My husband is an excellent shot, so I keep him close by. 😆 But I do like to walk early in the mornings and have been known to wander off beaten paths. This would be great to have. I agree that it's a bit costly, and I assume the replacement pepperballs don't come cheap either. But NRA reviewed this too, and they approve. So that, and your video here, is enough for me! I'm in! Thanks again - love your RV Love videos too! I don't comment much, because we watch on our big TV where it isn't possible. (Obviously I'm at the computer today....😁) Two thumbs up!

Julie, I know you have talked about being short but I did not know you were only 4' 8". My grandmother was 4' 10" but she was a power house of energy. Nobody could out work her. My best to you as you march through life! Don't let anybody look down on you other than physically!! By the way, I really love and enjoy your Australian accent. Marc, I am glad they chose you to review this product. In your former live as a Police Officer, as you would approach somebody carrying one of those, would you handle them the same way as if they were wearing an unconcealed firearm? What if you were to find it in a vehicle you had pulled over? I have always said that finding a firearm on you or in your vehicle only opens you up to greater suspicion upon discovery by law enforcement. The best defense is to do nothing wrong and give complete courtesy and cooperation should law enforcement come investigating. You have seen this from behind the badge. Is this bad advice. I really enjoy following you on RVLove! I am looking forward to your doing more travelogues after you rest up from your whirlwind book writing on an impossible schedule. By the way, I have mine and i am reading it now.

I got one 5 years ago, it holds the air great three months later and it still had air, great little gun, I don't like that you have to press so hard on the red trigger, you have to use two hands, the light is very weak so I did attach a little flash light on top of it that works great!! The power of the gun is very strong to scare a dog 100% if it's a person I don't think it will work, you can use it, but, have a real gun in case the person don't want to back up, if in your home I'm sure he will run from you and it's much safer then a real gun, you don't want to hurt a member of your family, by accident. I also got a Tippmann gun that works great and the trigger is soft, good luck, be safe.

Just ordered one tonight. Will be here in a few days. I'm keeping this at home. My wife has finally got on board with some sort of home defense. Was looking at a shotgun, but I don't want to be responsible for anyone getting injured or dying so I think this will be a good alternative. Could you recommend a good flashlight? Something bright cheap and packs a good wallup...

I'm sorry if this has been covered and I missed, but aren't most threats not accessed as threats until they are much closer than this item would be effective? I suppose lacking a hand cannon it could be used to annoy a bear you see while walking a path. But as I'm shopping for items to protect myself from the next dog attack I feel like they aren't running at you until they are too close to use this thing on them. Human threats even more so.

Even if you are within a range where you might receive some of the effects of the pepper ball, the attacker would suffer more and at the very least they won't likely be able to effectively attack you as long as you kept in mind that you should get as far away from them as possible so they cannot get you in a hold or use a knife or other weapon on you. Much of your comment is true but if you are vigilant and listen to that inner sense that signals danger without hesitation you can identify an individual at a further distance. Even if they do end up close enough that you will experience some of the effects it is still better than being defenseless and certainly better than a taser that will almost always shock you unless the attack

Yes, I would like an update as well. They as a brand have poor reviews on customer service for their pepperball launcher guns, so at least I know that. Some have exploded rounds in the guns, so that's also concerning. Practice for sure with inert rounds and don't buy from Amazon, but PepperBall direct. pblifelite.com/ Hope this helps!

I'm unfamiliar w/ the batteries. Are they equivalent to one 18650 I hope? The only issue I have besides the apparently exotic nature of the batteries is the fact that it would prove very difficult to reload the device. Meaning that this could only be used once in any given altercation. That is 5 shots and then you're screwed.

Great demonstration, thank you!🙏 Warning⚠️, some people have high pain tolerance and they can withstand pepper-ball projectiles shots. If they are able to advance forward chances are they will beat with that device. Does anyone knows what’s the FPS rating on this projectile device? Also instead of this device, consider buying the Mission TPR Less lethal, I think it’s a better product at 300+ FPS.

Yes, I guess you can use .68 pepper/cs ball combos in here as well, but I would want to test to see if they work first! Salt sells those. And wow, this thing looks as big time as the PepperBall guns. protx.missionlesslethal.com/home-personal-defense/ But have you used it or read reviews? I have yet to be able to find a pepper gun without jams, blow-ups of balls in the gun, other failures, poor customer service, etc. It's a challenge. I'll look into this one. Thanks!

First, great video and review!!!!! Self defense products are unfortunately necessary in today's society but many/most seem to avoid specific product reviews or mentions (the only other one I can remember is a flashlight/taser combo a few years ago). Second, did one of the pepperballs penetrate all the way through the target(?), how much force is being used? And third, is it legal in all states and/or to travel into Canada or Mexico with? Thanks again for the review!

Glad you enjoyed it - yes one of the pepperballs did penetrate the plastic boot mat (IKEA) from about 20 feet, We are emailing the company now to ask about Canada and Mexico. In the USA, it's legal in all states except you need to have the inert balls in for CA and NY, not the pepper balls.

No they don’t need to be. The pepper is only in the powder inside the ball. That being said if you had one leak then you might want to do that.

Well if the pepperball is cracked or "leaking" then throw it away, if you try to shoot a cracked ball it will just explode in the barrel and jam the weapon.

You can fire 5-6 rounds with strong force. BUT... once you fire ANY rounds, you will want to replace the air cartridge before returning to storage as it won't hold air as well once punctured and you want it ready with full power the next time you want to use it.

Question - when I inserted the co2 cartridge, it began hissing. This must mean that the cap was punctured. When I inserted the puncture ram, I could not move the cartridge. Now the cartridge is jammed. Will not go in or come out

For being around for so long this unit is too expensive at $300. If this were $150 Id be a new customer ASAP. Also- theres no specs on SCU per ball. Water based isnt as effective as oil based. On the website it says 12gr Co2 - does it take 16? Are the cartridges threaded or non? How many shots be Co2? Decent vid - but not enough info for that price

Hello. Thanks for the questions. It is powder, not water based. I don't think a 16gr CO2 would fit, but they are not threaded versions.Once punctured, the CO2 does a great job of firing all ammo in the lifelite, but would recommend swapping out CO2 when you reload ammo. Also, once punctured, you are going to need to replace the CO2 even if you only shot 1 ball, before putting back in storage, as pressure will be lost over time.

some guys did a test on this weapon one guy shot the other guy just below his face so that the pepper balls would explode and blow into his face he didn't have any reaction to it he said it was slightly burning but not enough to stop at me when someone's angry you really got to hit them hard to get them on the ground

It holds 5 balls so would generally replace the CO2 cartridge every time we replace the balls. It may last longer but we would want to ensure it works whenever we needed it

If its anything like a c02 paintballgun then 1 c02 cartrage should be good foe atleast 10 fully powered shots. Best bet would be to test this with the inhert rounds. But tbh in a real life attacker situation if 5 pepper rounds doesnt stop the attacker then just run, as they are most likely on drugs of some sort.

Trust me it works. You'll breath that power in instantly and it hurts! Judt the impact hurts. If yoy get rushed by someone and they are closing in within feet you can blast them at close range and they will start screaming

I wondered the same thing, and want to use Salt balls in their. You are my mental match. They said they will work, but they recommend using their own balls. I will buy the others and try them out before counting on this thing in the night.

I have no idea why this isn't in a gun form-factor. Guns are shaped the way they are for a reason. Easy to aim and easy to fire. This looks like its neither.

An California can't be fired by anything but air pressure some of these are fired by a 22-round which would be legal some of the cops in California say even the ones far by air pressure is still a firearm we're still the classification. Fire alar

i enjoyed this review, it was well done. and i absolutely like that less-lethal options for people who can't / won't own a firearm. BUT, it would be good to inform your viewers as to how effective / not effective any device like this is against attackers. From data compiled on 1700 shootings, we know rough failure-to-incapacitate rates for various groups of calibers and types of firearms. We know that around ~20% of attackers are not stopped by most pistol caliber rounds. We know ~60% of attackers are not stopped by .22lr. But there just ISN'T that much data on pepperball in real-world self-defense use. But if a .22lr fails to stop attacks most of the time, i don't forsee pepperball doing better. Maybe. Maybe not. But people watching stuff like this need a no-shit assessment on how effective this stuff is. At least a discussion. This is basically a low-velocity paintball gun with low capacity and questionable ergonomics. Animal deterrent, ok maybe.

Pepperball also offers units that look like guns and have 150 feet range instead of the 60 ft of the lifelite. Just havent done that review yet.

That paintball gun is too hard to fire for a grown woman obviously and isnt capable of being pained accurately.... check out rubber 9mm rounds, bean bag shotgun rounds, and obviously lethal rounds for handguns shotguns and rifles.
