This hit me hard. I was a passenger in a vehicle on a night everyone had a bit too much and someone tried to show off and impress me. We rolled the truck on my side, I got the head injury and he got the DUI... Ill let you guess which one was worse in the end. Im thankful for you sharing this story because it should make everyone think about the situation before you get in a vehicle with someone. I can think of a few things i would have done differently before the crash... since I dont remember anything after.

When I was a kid, and indestructible... Someone told me “Too everyone else in the world.... I am “the other guy””..... that hit home hard back then and “scared me straight”... think about it how many billions of people out there, and to every single one of them I am “the other guy”... yeah I stopped doing a lot of stupid things right then.

My little bro telling stories and hopefully saving some lives. I’ve said for years you need to tell this story and be a truth speaker about what can happen. This is one night of my life I will never forget getting that phone call and having to call the rest of the family and racing to the hospital to hopefully see my brother one last time. The emotion I have on this story are all over the place it’s like reliving that night all over again but thankful you’re still here. I’m happy as your older brother to see you keep going and pushing everyday to better yourself.

Respect to this guy for owning up to his bad decisions and still making the most of life. Also for drilling in the dangers of drinking and driving. I was hit by a drunk driver in 2011 while riding my motorcycle to work. Suffered a broken leg, torn PCL ligament in my knee, my bottom lip was ripped off (luckily was reattached) and entire upper jaw caved in, 7 knocked out teeth among other cuts and bruises. Had my mouth wired shut for 2 months which turns out to be a great way to lose weight haha! After all the surgeries and learning to live with the changes In the long run has made me a better person and more out going. I appreciate the small things in life i took for granted. And I will absolutely never ever drive drunk or let a friend do it. Thanks for the story as always Rabbit

I made it to 12:37. I can't watch anymore, it makes my stomach churn. I have the utmost sympathy and respect for the guy. I have spent the last year recovering from my own wreck that wasn't my fault nor were my injuries comparable to his. I also have a very real phobia about losing body parts and I have "only ifed" myself for far too long. I may never find a vehicle I loved as much as what I lost and that leads to one more comment. This guy's story really makes me appreciate what I still have. Also, who tf would give this a dislike. Fifteen people need a dose of karma.

This is why I don't fully trust many people driving. I was 3 inches from death, lost half of my L3/4/5 vertebrae, fractured my pelvis both sides front and back and died 3 times before making it through intake. They told me I would never walk again. Nothing like this man. I commend him beyond belief.

13:03, crazy you said it that way, and it ended up being premonition. Love the outlook of can’t sit and wallow in it, in your boat, but different injuries, i had to look at it the same. I couldn’t eat anymore. I always said, man, i’d love a motorcycle, but don’t want to spend the last 5 minutes of my life holding my intestines in my hands (story id heard). Day 2 owning first motorcycle, wrecked and sliced my stomach open, ended up losing 20ft of intestines. Won’t forget the sight of watching myself laying there as i rose from the mountain to pure white light, ultimate peace and serenity. Had a convo with God, asked if i wanted to stay [there] or return [to life]. Long story short was blessed with survival, snapped awake on the mountain, still kickin, can eat again, and earned plenty of life back.

Double edged story. The tragic results of 1 mistake, the amazing guy who can talk about it honestly and is very humble about what he has overcome. "Just a I went to college kinda degree". Amazing. Other comments about talking to new drivers in schools is on point. Maybe a video should be made specifically for that purpose. The warning of tragic decisions combined with his inspirational attitude and can do results are worth far more than money. He could save and inspire many young people. Thanks for sharing

Wow crazy story! I hope you're doing ok. Long term LT1 Trans Am owner here and I have an interesting story about how a music video with a PSA in it about drunk driving lead me to give a ride to a member of my favorite band because I wasn't drinking. There is a music video by a Canadian band called Simple Plan that has an LT1 Trans Am in it and it was how I was introduced to their music in 2005 because someone posted the video on a Trans Am forum. I went to 3 of their concerts in Florida in 2016. Their lead guitarist follows me on twitter and helped me get tickets to one of the shows that was invite only. On the last day of shows I got backed into at a toll booth in my 95 Trans Am. The damage was minor but I got a free paintjob out of that from insurance. When I get to the venue for the last show, someone pulled out of a spot on the street in front of the venue just as I drive up. Score. Front row parking. I had no idea how perfect this would end up being. I get into the venue and was front row center at the bar. The guys from the band actually recognized me from the other shows. The lead singer even came out and walked the bar and shook my hand first because he recognized me. Now as I said, I'm not a drinker but I especially wouldn't be drinking and driving because in that video, the person driving that trans am was killed by a drunk driver. I've had a lot of eerie coincidences with this band and their music over the years but that's one I want to avoid. Anyway, after the show, the guys hung around for a bit and I remember commenting how I'd love to try to get a pic of them with my car. Later on I was outside the venue taking a break from the noise (it became a club after their concert ended) and Jeff, their guitarist comes out with his guitar bag like he is getting ready to leave. I walk up to him and ask him if he can do me a favor. He says he doesn't know if he can do me a favor because he needs to figure out a ride back to his hotel. I say "well Jeff, the favor I was going to ask was if you'd let me take a pic of you standing in front of my car (which was less than 100 feet from where we were), but if you need a ride to your hotel, I'll drive you there." He asks me if I'm ok to drive (he had been drinking) and I tell him I haven't had a single drink (completely true, I was drinking coke all night). He agrees and I take him to his hotel, get the picture and get a bonus. On the way back to my hotel I notice something sitting in my passenger seat. It was his guitar pick from the concert. It must have fallen out of his pocket. I actually got it signed when I went to another concert of theirs the next year. TL,DR a song with a trans am in the music video about drunk driving lead me to meeting a band because I have a trans am like the one in the video and I gave the guitarist a ride to his hotel after a concert. The video in question ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZQ7oqmikZDQ.html

Story hits home with me. Full night of drinking, sun was up by then. Just got the car, same car 02 WS6, and some friends really wanted to go for a spin. All seats were filled, I was the driver. We never crash but easily could have. I remember shifting into 4th and seeing in the corner of my eye someone putting their belt on. Still think about this once in a while how everything could have changed right then. This happened when I was 19 and I'm 34 now.

Im grateful to have heard this brave young mans story! I lost kidney function at 26, and have been on dialysis for 5 years. Luckily also chose to move forward. The way that I chose to move forward was with God. How grateful and thankful I am, that I chose to honestly COMMIT to living for and with God. Without him, I wouldn't be here. I can honestly tell you I have felt and seen him work in my life. When you hear people say they are " Born Again" Christians. They are actually painting the picture for you, because I am NOT the same person I once was. Its NEVER too late to ask Jesus to be your Lord and saviour and For God to come into your life. There are no sinners in HEAVEN, and that time can be here before you know it.....

Hey Robb, this is a video every kid needs to see before signing up for drivers education class in high school. Putting into real perspective what can happen when you're least expecting it. My hats off to this young man for sharing his story, and trying to save other kids from an altered future life, or potential death. When I was a kid in the late 1970's taking drivers ed class, they had a series of movies everyone had to watch showing drunk driving crashes to try to show kids what can happen. One that stands out in my memory was called "Mechanized Death" . I kid you not, that was the title of the film. The movie showed real footage of what people, cars, and trucks looked like after horrific accidents. These were not special effects, these were actual images and films of accident reconstruction, and what the now dead people went through. Forty years later I can remember those images vividly. As a kid, seeing people literally ripped in half, left a major impression on me. I believe parents complained about how grewsome the film's were ( wasn't that was the point ? ) , and they discontinued showing these film's in school. Drive safe and take care all..

It makes sense as to why his buddy was more or less fine. Drunk people generally don't get as severely injured in crashes (even in ejections) because their reflexes are so bad that they can't tense up and they basically turn into a rag doll. My coworker is a volunteer firefighter and the stories he has of drunk people being fine after major accidents are insane, usually with the other people involved being killed. That's why we have a rule - when we do any kind of partying, we check the keys at the door. You have to prove you can get them back at the end of the night when you want to leave, or have a DD or a ride coming to pick you up.

Lost his leg, literally walks on a wood leg...this is the south, and works full time every damn day for the city department. Does everything anyone else can do. Could have easily drawn disability, but refused and picked himself up and keeps makin it happen.

I appreciate you telling this story so I can sit my son down and have him watch it.

This story just reminds me, to keep drilling it into my 13 year old son's head... I don't care where you are, who you're with, or what you've been doing; if something bad is going down or going to happen, you call me and I'll come get you. No questions, no 3rd degree, (at least not at that moment, I'll be honest), I just want you home safe and sound.

I survived 3 wrecks over the course of about 2 years. Once for booze, one for opiates & one with Xanax. Only got one DUI but looking back 5 years I'm ashamed of my actions. Never wore my seat belt. Did some minor damage to my back & neck, im very lucky to be alive. Getting so high I would sleep for literally a day, momma had to check my pulse to see if I was still alive. Play stupid games win stupid prizes & like he said roll the dice enough your numbers gonna come up.

Some decisions pull us forward, some pull us back but it always good to keep looking around & learn from others mistakes to keep ourselves from making bad decisions

(Editor's Note: I wish I had known we were having a guest today, I would have put on a clean t-shirt and run a brush through what's left of my hair.) Here I am, all set to whine and complain about the lack of "JC Penney's" girls, and Brother Rabbit nukes my whole plan with this life lesson/positivity nugget. An impressive attitude, especially so given the circumstances. I didn't get a lot of life lesson tips from my dad, but "Wear your (GD) seatbelt!" was one. The car didn't move until everyone was buckled up. Thank you for sharing your story, Joshua. Thank you Brother Rabbit for sharing your platform so we can hear that message and meet a truly inspirational figure. Godspeed, Joshua
