Well since I've been stuck in vtuber hell for the last 2 years Iono turned out to be my favorite gym leader We have a lot in common since we're both influencers 😋
As a spaniard, the game has done it's research. But who's going to notice that the yellow cylinder located in the towns is the classic spanish mailbox? Who's going to notice that the architecture of los platos references cordoba and it's muslim ancient buildings like La mezquita? Or that the poison forest represents a real spanish forest with painted trees located on the north side of the country? Most of them aren't obvious enough to be noticed without knowledge of the culture, so a lot of people think they're random places not connected at all to spain
That's great to hear! I'm curious...how well was Portugal represented in these games? I heard online that they were worried that they wouldn't get represented or they might get misrepresented...
@@b2j135 Well, I'm not Portuguese, so I'm not that informed about their culture and representation. But meowscarada it's based on the Iberian mascarada, a cultural celebration centered about masks with origins from all over the peninsula, which takes place on Lisboa, Portugal, so at least there's that
it's actually crazy, I want to say it was actually a bit before sword and shield came out, but I remember one day seeing an article saying that game freak had job listings for photographers and other research-type positions in spain, so seeing it come through (I'm American so I'm trusting your word on this) as an accurate representation in the game is really cool. I've always been a fan of how pokemon games constantly try to base regions off of real-world locations in some way, shape, or form
So, about shinies: I found a shiny Lechonk right after Nemona gave me the first Pokéballs, then a Skiddo outside Star Dark base, then a Scream Tail, and a Quaxly by breeding. After finishing the main story and getting the Shiny Charm I also got a Swablu and a Rookidee
I can't believe I am enjoying this loveable janky game as much as I am. My interest in this franchise burned out many game generations ago...or so I thought. But, somehow, this game was gifted to me and...it's hilarious, the bugs are great, the open world is great, and the gym leaders and "villains" are funny (Larry: The best human character in Pokémon?).
@@B-rex395 The final portion was epic, but I couldn't take the endgame story seriously because I kept remembering something that Bill invented back in Gen 2 (don't wanna say/spoil anything more than that).
@@tinkerermelon6599 Spoilers I mean, yeah, Bill invented time travel back in GSC but that connected two specific points in time Bill created a wormhole, aka, he can only go back to that specific point Sada's/Turo's time machine is much more advanced as it can send and take PokeBalls from *any* point in time The researchers at area 0 probably took bills invention and improved upon it (Hence why you can only send pokeballs across time, just like in gens 1/2)
I did hear this one conversation on discord that might make you laugh, but the most powerful pokemon in Scarlet and Violet is a bug type, It's so powerful in fact it rivals the very notion of missingno from ruby/sapphire on the gameboy- crashing the game from continuous gameplay after roughly 6 and a half hours.
6:34 I recall that being in previous Pokemon games. Hell, I think that feature has been in since at least Diamond and Pearl since I distinctly remember being able to use the touch pad to check status changes.
I ran into three shinies in thirty minutes in one area and then haven't run into any more after a solid day of playing the game. Although it doesn't help that 1) they turned the shiny chime off and 2) most shinies this gen are pretty terrible and hard to see. Also apparently the shiny chime was turned off because the Pokemon can spawn out-of-bounds, so you couldn't get to them even if you wanted to. Granted the very first shiny I ran into in this game was the dark doggo and it used Roar right as I got it to a point where I could capture it so...kinda salty about that. Also Herba Mystica = HM was mind blowing I didn't realize that. XD
Ms Dendra is my favorite teacher, and after she almost wrecked my shit Tulip became my favorite gym leader (that and she uses her psychic powers to make her clothes move so she looks more majestic and I love that for her). The fact that their close makes me love them more and i need to know all the lore there.
As a portuguese citizen, I am indeed a ghost , but only to selfies. I despise them so much I die if a back camera is being used and immediately come back to life afterwards.
Not gonna lie I saw a shiny lechonk after exiting the cave with the Legendary all the way in the beginning and legit thought it was a gender difference.
The Pokeballs in random rooms aren't exactly a bug, but something developers forgot. Simple items/shapes are used to indicate things like center of room/door in video games, but they're supposed to be turned invisible in the game. Considering many things in the game, it seems like they were seriously running out of time and forgot to turn several of these indicator items invisible. Also don't worry, dude. I haven't run into any shinies myself either and I feel like I must have ran past several of them bc my friends have found many shinies. XD
or maybe they werent running out of time and forgot they had put pokeballs in the center of every room because I mean hitman had an item that still had a placeholder text that they forgot to replace
I've found two shinies in my playthrough: a shiny Mareep and a shiny Staraptor. Didn't use the Staraptor (might use it for competitive) but I carried that shiny Mareep with me all the way to the end.
the funniest part about the herba mystica is where the translation team didn't get the memo and they are just named some random ass name in other languages. don't you remember all the ggs from the old gens?
That 'joke'/'Reference' to HM's only exists in english. In japanese Herba Mystica is called "秘伝スパイス" or Secret Spice. Hidden Machines in Japanese is "ひでんマシン" or Secret Machine. See how the secret is the same in both? It's not an appriviation pun because those don't translate well in japanese.
@@Gakuloid wait hold up. instead of using their own language japan writes hidensupaisu and hidenmashin. common japan have you heard of this language called nihongo. and shouldn't it be even easier doing something like that in japanese with their 10 billion homonyms
@@esrohm6460 “Hiden (秘伝)” is an actual Japanese word which means secret. The two kanji means secret and legend respectively, commonly used in the form of himitsu (秘密) and densetsu (伝説). So by pure linguistic coincidence, “Hiden” is able to be translated into “Hidden” in English Pokeverse and continue to make sense. Then it takes even more coincidence and translation genius to get the Spanish “Herba Mystica” which matches the English Hidden Machine. In Japanese, there’s no coincidence, they’re just both called Hiden because they’re “secret machine” and “secret spice”.
@6:32 I'm not sure what you mean by "sorely needed" _checking your status changes_ isn't a new feature. (õ∀ó;)ゝ Also, they've since fixed the Eyes not closing in combat (which was apparently just a bug... Part of me still kind of wishes they'd actually just do their overworld sleeping animations Lol)
Yeah the backlash for these reminds me of Gen 5. I REALLY hope they don't backpedal on this open design... This is literally the FIRST pokemon game imo that beats out Dragon Quest Monsters Joker (another creature collector but from 2006) in terms of QoL.
@@stonalisa3729 yes but the suits might decide to never go open world again just to be safe thats why its good that the game sold so well because then the chance is high for some more open world pokemon games
Sure it would have given fans expectations, but Iono would have been a perfect way to introduce voice acting. They already had lines recorded by her, they could have thrown in her catch phrases at the very LEAST
Found a shiny Shinx like an hour after going east of Mesagoza. Just noticed "is that Shinx yellow?" and scrambled to catch it. I had been using Kilowattrel as my Electric type, but you kinda have to use the shiny, no?
I think Pokemon SV's low Metacritic score is low because they're near the point where their game can be pitted against others on much more equal footing now.
@@stonalisa3729 One member was mortally wounded, not the whole team. Also Heath's team were the ones who succeeded, not a failed expedition. Lastly, to clarify, I said they "didn't all die" not that nobody ever died exploring Area Zero.
@@Ryodraco well I doubt the majority of explorers besides heaths group had pokemon because most people didnt have pokemon at the time of legends so might not even had pokeballs also most of them probaly died of old age. I say probaly because one could have time traveled or turned out to be immortal
I don't want them to go back to sword and shield.. I want them to go back to black and white! maybe actually diamond and pearl, or actually ruby and saphire. God forbid and they go back to red and blue where you're basically just a schmuck that goes out someday and does their thing without a story, just for fun and beat the mafia more or less by accident! I mean at this point the game plays itself and they are making money of it so yeah.. This ain't it for me, chief still a fun video, thank you
I found a random shiny Mudbray It's the first shiny Pokémon I've ever found in all my casual years of playing Pokémon games I wonder traded it away since I'm doing a Nuzlocke ^^
i have bouth of the games and finished purpur - but now im gona wait till the outher 30 milion beta testaers are done, and the game can finaly be played near buggfree - or untill the 5 peaple working at gamefreek stard with they weekend work on the next generation, the life of a smal indi company is hard
Willing to bet Game Freak never ended up going to Spain like they normally do for new regions, both because the game was so unbelievably rushed and because the dev cycle happened while the 'rona was going around. Either way, would explain while Paldea doesn't really feel like Spain at all except for the most basic of references like the regional Tauros
As a spaniard, it has way more references than I thought it would have. The thing is, they're subtle and most people won't get them For example, just on the smoliv town, they reference spanish oil, spanish landscape, and a famous spanish tv show, "grand prix" In the psychic type town, the whole arquitecture reminded me of Cordoba, a city that even today still has classical musslim buildings built centuries ago like "La mezquita", a national monument. Not only that, but all the cities have the distinct yellow cylinder that is the spanish mail box, among other details As I said, it has references, and by the way, if you play in spanish they multiply, since the people in charge of the localization added coloquialisms, regional dialects, and even referenced how there's another language on the north by making people on the ghost type city talk with phonemes from that language. You can even find an npc singin the spanish pokemon opening song
@@sasir2013 Fair enough. I'm American and don't really know much about Iberian Peninsula nuances, so like you said the more subtle stuff wouldn't register for me
@@WingedFish66 Don't worry. Ramzaes in this same video has called fidough "subway dog", when it is based on the mollete, a soft round bread from the south of spain
It's just review bombing, and as people are playing the game and giving it real ratings is going up. The other day, I checked it up and was a few points higher
Is larry fitting the region? Honestly. While I dislike Larry I can see it. Don't they usually slip in some sort of japanese vibe in some places to the region?
Honestly though, overworked, exhausted and deliberately boring people exist everywhere, in all countries. lol It’s not just a Japanese thing, it’s frankly a fact of life for many people that living “against the grain” isn’t always actually the goal. Just getting by is. I think that’s actually why so many people got immediately attached to Larry: he speaks to those of us with adult lives/responsibilities/everyday trauma to contend with. He is the single most relateable character to many people. Real talk (and not directed at you specifically, just while I am on the train of thought anyway), it’s one of the reasons why the incessant toxicity online has gotten so tiresome for me… I have enough real crap to deal with, I just want to be able to, you know, enjoy my preferred media. Too bad there are a bunch of people who apparently have no real life issues so they feel the need to over-dramatize things where we should be able to just chill and have fun… Oh well. People will be people, I guess.
