The IMF strongly feels that it is critical for the outdoor community to build a deeper understanding on issues taking place on popular trails, majorly relating to waste management, and play a role not only by minimising the issue, but also by educating people who they feel are contributing to the problem. And it is in this context that the IMF Mountain Film Festival invites films covering environmental issues within the Indian Himalaya, especially those which are a direct result of the very activity they might otherwise inspire - adventure sports in the Abode of Snow. Every year the award for Best Film - Mountain Environment is conferred on the film adjudged to be the most inspirational towards mission Clean Himalaya.
In 2020, this award went to this short but highly inspiring film "Jogini Cleanup Drive" by 4Play as the team from the Healing Himalaya Foundation undertakes their campaign clearing the route from Vashisht temple, ahead of Manali, to the Jogini Waterfalls, of all the waste left behind by irresponsible trekkers. The Healing Himalayas Foundation has undertaken many similar campaigns since its inception in 2016. They organise regular treks on popular routes combined with cleanup drives, while creating awareness for responsible travelling as well as to showcase respect for cultural and ecological diversity of the place.
The Healing Himalayas Foundation, founded in 2016 by Pradeep Sangwan, is on a mission to clean and heal the Indian Himalaya by developing comprehensive and holistic waste management programs that help to protect people and the environment from toxic materials generated by plastic and general waste. To accomplish this, Healing Himalayas works tirelessly all round the year, making an attempt to clean trekking routes (most visited and otherwise) while also providing a wonderful trekking experience.
Pradeep Sangwan is an intrepid traveller committed to restore the pristine natural environment of the Himalayas. Sangwan and his team of volunteers from the Healing Himalayas initiative have cleared approximately 8,00,000 kgs of non biodegradable waste from foothills of Himalayas.
4Play is a 360 degree media outfit for adventure sports, travel and outdoor culture. We are India’s original adventure sports channel born of a personal outcome from roughing it out, living on the cutting edge of what may be termed as extreme, and basking in the experience that came along.
Don't forget to watch the review at the end of the film, a Q & A session with Pradeep Sangwan by Maninder Kohli, Festival Director - IMF MFF.
