I want to change the timing belt, v-belt and water pump on my 924 as well. I was looking for a video like this one. So your video helped me a lot! :)

Thanks for the comment Timo. Glad it's useful for you. The water pump should be a nice easy swap out with a few nuts and a gasket. Hope all goes well 👍

Thanks for the top tip about removing the water pump pulley to slacken and remove the auxiliary belt rather than trying to access and adjust the alternator bolts 👌

Greetings from Texas! Just found your content. I'm embarking on getting a 924 with a broken timing belt and a few other things to be done. My dad use to work on and own 911's and had a 77 924 when I was growing up. Good content to definitely learn on. Kind walking in my dads footsteps. Looking forward to more of your vids!

In case nobody else made this comment: Had that been a turbo (931) or a 924S, this outcome would have been catastrophic, because unlike the early NA 924 models, they DO have intereference engines. The proper tensioning tool is highly recommended for the 924S. For the 931, it's really a good idea to have a very experienced mechanic check the tension before you gamble and start it. It is a good idea to refer to a proper service manual and double check not only that the timing marks are aligned but that you are not out of phase. As I recall you want to be on the compression stroke as well as having both marks aligned (Somebody with a manual can provide details since I haven't done this since about 1995). Even then, it's a crap shoot and many 931s ate their own innards because of bad luck and or bad planning when changing a timing belt. One other question since I have never used the special tensioning tool, is it the case that the holes in that new timing belt idler are designed to work with the tensioner used on the 924S/944 or some other model?

Very informative and helpful. Why did you rnot replace the water pump when doing the belt also is it advisable to replace the bolt holding the tension pulley when repacing the belt. Keep up the good work.
@Witty924
@Witty924 3 года назад
Hi Seamus thanks for the comment and support. You are spot on and changing the water pump is a good tip with timing belt changes. I'm luck as indid the water pump a while back sperately before I started viewing the work on my 924. That said the 924 2.0l engine is great to work on, lots of space and the water pump has great access so highly recommend as you say. The bolt that fixes the pulley comes as a part of the timing belt kit so you can change that and the holding threaded piece I changed. To be honest you can reuse a bolt if it good condition with some loctite or opt for a nylon bolt which also works well. Hope that helps 👍

First time viewer on this channel. I would have preferred if the actual technical manipulations weren’t fast forwarded. Other thing: I would have done the camshaft seal as well as the water pump. Still nice video. Cheers from Belgium

@Witty924 3 года назад
Thanks for the comment and support and hope all is good in Belgium. Good points you raise. I did the water pump a while back before I started doing videos so that's all good. Also the camshaft seal is also recent again something done before videos. Both easy jobs and well worth doing as you say when doing the timing belt. 👍

The joys of classic car ownership. I've just replaced my front shocks and control arms. And rebuilt the calipers with new seals and brake hoses. The cap holding the shocks in was rusted solid it took a lot of heat and big vice and monkey wrench to remove it.

Thanks RA for the comment and support. Fun and frustration in the same package with this little classic 😅. So mine has a master kill switch or insulator switch fitted. Useful when working on the car so much. Also when I have done sprints or hill climbs in the car, it's a nice to have, I did think about re-wiring it into the interior but still in 2 minds 🤔

Hi indy, thanks for the comment and support. So that is the front undertray that they all left the factory with. Over the years I'm sure many 924 and 944s lost them. Check on eBay to see if you can get one. 👍🤞

How dit you mount the V_belt? Gr
@Witty924
@Witty924 Год назад
Hi Tom, thanks for the comment. So usually you just losen of the alternator however you can just take the water pump pulley off and then for it back and put the vbelt on the edge of the pulley and wind the engine by hand at the crank bolt and it winds the vbelt back on at the same tension. I do this because it saves jacking the car up to remove the under tray to get to the alternator bolt. Hope that helps 👍

Hi Witty, i wish you a happy and healthy 2021. Informative video, but the head camera movement bothers me, because the jerky and fast movement of the camera does not create meaningful images. You can't really see what's going on.

@Witty924
@Witty924 Год назад
@@arvod2060 I think like many over the years have lost parts that people have taken off and not replaced. This is a common part that gets lost, as does the wiper motor cover by the battery or the spark plug heat cover that is attached to the exhaust manifold. Its worth getting to help your alternator last longer. Your alternator should have a cowling on the back of it that the tube attaches too. The ducting looks like this wooliesworkshop.com/products/porsche-924-944-alternator-cooling-duct-pipe-hose?variant=20229905121353&currency=GBP&gclid=CjwKCAjwmJeYBhAwEiwAXlg0AVXujHxCtHYKdiTio-jNCjewnDqnYlMbc3WF4txDi6Xxipi9KAvonBoCwSMQAvD_BwE
