How to adjust your primary chain tension on your Harley Big Twin - Twin Cam and Evo engines. Be sure and torque everything in the proper pattern and to the correct foot pound setting when you reassemble it all.

You should have rotated your rear tire to find the tightest spot on your chain. Check in different spots

It seemed to be consistent no mater where it was rotated to. That is a good point I should have added to the video though.

If you chain was too loose would it cause a shake at mid to high rpm?

It’s possible, but I think it would make tons of noise too. Sounds like a miss fire, engine mounts, or something serious.

Would a primary chain thats too tight cause my bike to lose power?

Not unless it was absurdly tight. But too tight will cause the transmission bearings to prematurely fail.

When does the primary chain need to be changed? How can you tell?

There is a wear spec in the service manual. It varies by model.

Thanks for the video , why 24 t comp instead 25 t compensator?? any gains from that??

Oh yes! It drop the final drive ratio from 3.10:1 to about 3.4:1. Huge difference on acceleration, and you don’t have to reprogram your Speedo. The stock Harley ratio is way too tall.

@@KnobleMoto i own a 91 flhs 5 speed , which way would i need to go for taller gearing or would it make much difference Sir ?? Thanks

@@jamesconn7311 if you want taller, as in lower rpms on the highway, you would want to go up in teeth on the front sprocket. Or a larger front pulley. If you want more acceleration, you would go to smaller numbers on the front sprocket or pulley.
