What are the ingredients of a perfect climb? The location or the people you are with? Or is it the weather? Or perhaps the chance to make history? Veteran climber Mick Fowler takes us along on his journey through "one of the most enjoyable climbs" he has ever done - his 2012 Piolet d'Or winning climb of Shiva (6,142m) in the Pangi valley in Himachal Pradesh, a long held objective of his, along with his regular climbing partner Paul Ramsden. This was first climb of this challenging mountain by its northeast ridge, which Mick and Paul named as the Prow of Shiva.
Mick Fowler has been climbing in the higher ranges since 1982, with several First Ascents to his credit in Nepal, Russia, Yukon, Tibet, Xinjiang, Sichuan, Pakistan, Peru and India. He has undertaken 10 notable expeditions in the Indian Himalaya. Mick has served as the President of the UK Alpine Club. He is a three-time Piolet D'Or winner and has published two volumes of memoirs, for which he won the Jon Whyte Award for Mountain Literature at the 2005 Banff Mountain Book Festival and the best book prize at the Bormio Mountain Festival in 2012.
