Queen's "trash" is still better than some bands' best. I LOVE Cool Cat. That list is just an opinion, and everyone has opinions about Queen. Sure they've made a few sub-par tracks, most of which have been named in the list and are not my absolute favorites, but it's not going to make me love Queen any less for it, you know?

This track is off the "Hot Space" album and is the one song that Brian May and Roger Taylor refused to have anything to do with. So John Deacon played guitar and base and used a drum machine. Freddie's vocals were all done in falsetto, I personally love this track but a lot of people didn't.

Freddie and Queen were all about variety and not being one "typical" sound. What made them unique is 4 different people writing completely different types of songs independent of each other and then choosing which ones to develop further and put on the albums. They have said many times they don't want to repeat themseves or be pigeon-holed into a typical type of song. That is part of the reason some critics disliked them. Freddie was interested in doing it all, and a lot of people criticized them for their variety. I love this song and a lot of the "softer" songs. Variety is why they lasted so long and have stayed popular for decades. There is something for every taste

A lot of people panned this song and album (Hot Space) at the time because most Queen fans were more interested in Queen's more traditional "rock" sound. It also came out right in the middle of the anti-disco backlash, so putting out an album like this was really unfashionable at the time and I think that initial negative reaction has never totally gone away. And to be sure there are some songs on the album that aren't very good, but there are gems like Las Palabras de Amour. I can understand why John and Freddie wanted to go more this direction with the success of a song like Another One Bites the Dust, but it just was a miss at the time. I do think a good amount of people have re-examined this album and come around to appreciate songs like Cool Cat.

A lot of the songs on that list are definitely not the best in Queen’s catalog.....the exceptions being Cool Cat (Freddie’s falsetto is amazing ), Don’t Try Suicide and Machines. They performed Machines in concert this summer.... like many of their songs it was great live. One of the things that makes Queen’s music so awesome is that no two songs sound the same. Btw Earth Wind and Fire is awesome too... one of my all time favorites 😆
@Motown-1966
@Motown-1966 4 года назад
Soupljp64...💁🏾‍♀️ Did ya know that "Don't Try Suicide" was written for his love time lover at the time, David Minns who actually tried killing himself over Freddie's infidelity. Long story short: David lost Freddie the SAME way he'd gained him...so he really only had himself to blame. He was Freddie's 1st long term live in male lover who he'd left Mary for. David wasn't so innocent in that breakup and was the source of MANY of Freddie's songs including "Love of My Life", "Good Old Fashion Lover Boy", " Millionaire Waltz", "Lazy on a Sunday Afternoon", & "Melancholy Blues." It was said David was the love of his life but Freddie also wanted to have his cake and eat too by keeping multiple lovers like many of rock stars of that era did. Mary went along with it as did the man Freddie left David for (Joe Fanelli American chef) eventually did as well as his last ever lover, Jim Hutton accepted Freddie's infidelities. 😩 Imagine what that must've been like living with your current lover's ex lover and dealing with his ex fiancee 🤦🏾‍♀️! IDK how Jim even put up with that but some of Freddie's exes didn't like David Minns and Winnie Kirchberger (German restaurant owner and chef). So when you listen to the song next time, you'll hear it from a different perspective.

Interesting to note that this was mainly John Deacon's idea and creation! He and Freddie both wrote the lyrics and Freddie played the electric keyboard, but all of the other elements were played by John (who could play basically anything, not just bass). I think he and Freddie were just experimenting and they wanted to try Freddie singing in falsetto, which he clearly could do (as you said, showing off his absolutely insane 4-octave vocal range). This song originally had David Bowie on backing vocals, but I guess he wasn't happy with them last minute and asked for them to be removed before the album's release. There was a lot of negativity around the album Hot Space as a whole (where this song was from), because it was a huge deviation in sound for Queen and fans didn't want or expect that (sort of dance club disco-y), so it went down poorly. Under Pressure is from Hot Space though, which was a huge, huge single, so it wasn't a total failure! There's a few beautiful songs on there as well, including a tribute to John Lennon. I think Hot Space gained back some popularity and love over the years and has aged well.

Cool cat is one of the best songs from queen, reason why a lot of people didn’t like it is because it has a mixture of pop and disco. bbbfst... Not to mention SHE was the only cat that constantly stayed by his side 'til the end. Jim and Phoebe noted how Freddie would silently (or even unconsciously) petted her fur right thru him being out of it. Compared to Rog's stupid song "I'm in love with My Car!" That song was a hommage to one of their roadies who thought of nothing but his car. Freddie's song was funny and strange BUT I think he'd sang it with her in mind listening to the record hence all of the meows towards the end. Rog was so incense that he refused to play the drums on the track. Deacy had to do this for Freddie. 'Spose Freddie had it comin' after he'd changed and/or deleted a lot of Rog's songs over the yrs. But considering Freddie was a dyin' soul, Rog was a real prick to him for being so animate 'bout not playing on the track.

I played it over and over again for about a year straight! My all-time favorite: Another One Bites the Dust. Another song I'm a big fan of is "Tie Your Mother Down". It's a song from their 1976 "A Day At the Races" album. I don't particularly care for the album version of this song. The absolute best version is when they performed at Wembley Stadium during their 1986 Magic Tour. The most surprisingly liked Queen song: "New York, New York" whick was recorded for the 1985 film "Highlander" but never made onto the soundtrack. There are others favorites but the ones I've mentioned come quickly to mind. Thanks for the video!

A lot of people were bummed by the whole Hot Space album. It was the first time they’d used synthesisers after years of making a point of not using them. But I love the album and this song is a good one. I think most of the rest of the top 10 are ‘post Live Aid’ Queen which can’t be said to be their best period, even though the singles remained strong at least.

🙋🏾‍♀️ This song rivals any Switch (with Bobby as lead) and/or Debarge (with El as lead) songs with the falsettos Freddie used to sing the song. I would've loved to have heard him sing this live. He likely didn't 'cos of his pesty nodules that gave him a devil of a time singing live...especially on stacked concert dates. I wouldn't go as far as to say he sang falsetto like Philip Bailey of Earth Wind & Fire though. Their song "Staying Power" had that horn sound derived from synthesizers very much like the real horn sounds of Switch, Earth Wind, & Fire, James Brown, Rick James, and the OHIO Players! BOTH Deacy and Freddie aka Deacury were huge R'NB/Funk/Dance fans. Deacy hung out with Nile Rodgers of Chic fame and you absolutely can hear his influences on Deacy with the "Another One Bite the Dust" and subsequent Hot Space project. That LP was basically Deacury's on one side and Maylor's (May/Taylor) on the other. There were a lot of good songs from Hot Space with "Under Pressure" and "Body Language" being the major ones here in the States at that time, despite "Body Language" video getting band on MTV. The band was really stupid and unfounded...but MTV wanted Queen to do a simple playback video of the song and of course, in true Mercury fashion, was told to take it as is or fuck on off LOL which started the war btw them and MTV refused to play "I Want to Break Free" as well. They cited that middle America wouldn't go for it but we all know better than that. It was 'bout THEM wanting to control artists and their creativity, so ~ The main problem with Hot Space was that it came out just as ppl were putting disco down and they'd just missed that window of opportunity. Had they'd tried dance/funk in the late 70's, they'd likely would've gotten away with it like other rockets did like the Stones & Rod Stewart did.

Freddie could easily have sung this live. It was easy for him to sing in falsetto. He just didn't often sing in falsetto live, because it was soft and he could not hear himself over all of Brian's amps.

Is a great tune. Put your headphones on and enjoy it. It doesn´t matter all the fuss with bad reviews. *Check this extended version (David Bowie rip on vocals)* ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ew9AhDslXJw.html By the way, that channel *DJDiscoCat* is very well recommended.

I think the reason this is rated low is it not Rock and Roll. It is Jazz. If you look at it as Jazz it tells a different tale.

Half of that list are great songs. Body Language is probably top 3 favorite for me. Delilah is about Freddie’s favorite cat. It’s not suppose to be a serious song. Some fans are idiots. You should listen to the entire list.

I became A HUGE fan when The Game came out, and I anxiously awaited their next album. Hot Space was very enjoyable at my young age. They tried to give people more of what we loved about Another One Bites The Dust, but some thought this album went too far in that direction. To each their own. There are many Queen albums I prefer, but I'll never be on the list of those who criticize Hot Space, and Cool Cat has a mood and groove that is a straight up Motown tribute.

it would be interesting to see you react to "body language". a lot of people hate that one but i love it! i like this song too so it just goes to show that queen's "bad" songs weren't actually bad.

That's the cost of presumption.. Thank god I didn't hear any kind of reviews before hearing this song.. And everything I heard after didn't really matter.. Coz it's a genius song.. Tell me which other rock band would take the risk of making a whole song in falsetto..
