Story 4: Honestly, they can't claim they value family and religion when they don't even show a little decency, and they don't the right to be salty at all. And, They shouldn't even be working with kids if that's the case. Massive props to the doctor though, at least she understands.

When it comes to mixing religion and business, you can generally be pretty certain about where things will end up. The 'values' quickly start taking a back seat to the revenue stream and before long they're nothing but a hollow pretence, maintained in name only and purely to keep up the illusion for the customers.

I love that it wasn't even an old temperamental oven, he just set it at 350°C (presumably) without even reading that cute little "c" at the end. Plus "Le Cordon Bleu" is a culinary school that teaches French haute cuisine... and what measurements do the French use again? Because I'm pretty sure it's the metric system, like every civilized country! "Except America, right?" I mean what I said. (BTW, I am American, and our country is backwards).

Walmart is the same way, but it's a bit different. You get ONE day of bereavement if it's not an "immediate" family member, but THREE days if it IS an immediate family. I had an aunt who passed away last year. I was, personally, really close with her. I had to take a 3 day bereavement because I was out of state. Walmart gave me two points for two days because of it not being an "immediate" family. They expected me to spend an 8 hour drive from NC to PA, without stopping for ANYTHING, go to the church service for less than 3 hours and then the 8 hour drive from PA to NC. Only getting maybe 5 hours or less of sleep. There's the full 24 hour day. Yeah. Not happening.

I only ever got three days and a weekend as a child each time, both grandmas, a grandpa, uncle and aunt. No child would be allowed to take off that amount of time, as they only have 22 days they can take off before truancy officers start investigating. So three days and a weekend is fair to me. ... I feel sorry for all the other teachers lives that just turned around as they have to cover a persons shift for 10 to 14 days with no notice. There could have been a compromise...five days off and five half days, or three days off and seven half days.

I will never understand companies' insane grievance policies. Have some humanity! When our uncle died, my brother obviously wanted to come mourn with us and attend his funeral. Brother lives out of state, so it's quite a trip. His boss looked up their grievance policy and discovers that employees only get five days off for "close" family. That is: parents, siblings, or spouses. Awesome boss says, "Yeah, that's ridiculous. Take the time you need. We'll see you when you get back." When my dad died, I worked for a small accounting firm that said they would give me all the time I needed. I took a week off, and they asked if I was sure I didn't want more time. At the time, I really needed something to do and a sense of normalcy, so I went back in. I miss that job.

A degree from Le Cordon Bleu, at least in the US, is far from something to brag about. There's a reason they shuttered all their US universities and had to pay out a HUGE settlement to those that graduated due to their overpriced tuition and their degrees being worth less than the paper they were printed on in the actual culinary industry.

I tried to take bereavement while they continued to deny it saying 1) i already took time off (even though it was unpaid and bereavement is paid) 2) i had PTO hours i could use 3) she wasnt immediate family. After many back and forths i just went into our company's website and found their bosses email and forwarded everything attached to an email request for bereavement. It was approved that same day and never got connected to that HR associate again.

I told my new job about my grandpa having covid and a possibility of him passing away so the bosses said to let them know weeks before(how do i let them know about it weeks before is beyond me) well my grandfather passed away during my shift (4pm-12am) and thankfull it was at the end of my shift where i could just leave once my replacement came but the next day i called my bosses first thing in the morning a full 9 hours before my shift that he passed away and i couldnt come in today but id be in tomorrow. They started bitching at me and even started bombarding my phone that i needed to come in and i should've let them know weeks ago and i said "im asking for a single day to grieve and im returning to work tomorrow. Given that im pregnant i cant go to the OTHERSIDE of the state and back is also no applicable for me either regardless im taking a day and returning tomorrow" they continue to bombard me until my dad and i showed up to pick up my pay check and the owners were ignoring me until they got to my dad and he said my daughter is taking the day today and we are here to pick up her paycheck so the owners were taken a back gave me my paycheck and we left. After that i looked for a new job a quit (thats a WHOLE other story) .

Story 5: thats the main issue with Christian seculars. They praise and talk about how family oriented they are, how kind and forgiving. Yet, every day we see the complete opposite. We have a term for that in HDNR. Its called "False Values" where your morale dont align with your actions. This more applies to environmental stuff like when some says their care abiut the environment but doesn't recycle. However, i can see it apply here as well. You cant preach how much of a loving person you are when you become so hateful to others, then get mad when people question your values. Just because you think you are a good person, doesnt mean you are.

This Cordon Bleu chef is the reason I live to be petty. It happened to me when I was a teen, and in hindsight, I now know why I was asked to let the person know about the oven, lol. She was gonna bake cookies, which everyone loved, but the oven’s top burner didn’t work, just the bottom one did. So you had to put what you were baking/cooking near the top to not burn the underside of your delicacies. I’m asked to let her know, and I try to, but she keeps instructing me on how the cookies will burn if she puts them that close to the burner, and that she’s been baking/cooking longer than me so she knows what she’s doing. Little did she know, I’ve been using that oven longer than her as this was her first time, and the top burner had broken just a month or so prior. The cookies’ underside was burnt, and she then had the audacity to ask me why I hadn’t said anything. My father let me talk, my mother wanted me to stay polite, so I didn’t yell or curse at her, but I did say what was on my mind.

The story about waiting in his car before his shift hits me, but in a different way. I work 3rd shift and relieve my coworker at night. He can't clock out til I clock in. But I'd always leave my house early incase of a train, car accidents, etc. So I'd be at work 15 to 20 minutes early. If I entered the building my coworker would clock out instantly and leave me with everything before I can even clock in (we aren't allowed to clock in more than 5 minutes before our shift). I got tired of occasionally getting calls and making people wait so I started sitting in my car. He noticed and clocked out and left, leaving the work phone unattended until I got in. Soooo I watched him leave, walked in and called, letting my boss know that I showed up and nobody was there. "I'm not sure when he left but he wasn't here when I walked in".

I'm currently 24 and if I need anything (money, a helping hand, some advice) my parents are right there ready and willing to help me out because as they tell me quite often "you are our world, and we would do anything for you". If a parent doesn't feel that way for their child they shouldn't have had kids. Loving your kids shouldn't end once they turn 18, having kids is a lifelong commitment!

My government job unlike others had an immense amount of overtime. You could work an extra 40 to 50 hours if overtime as we were considered “essential employees” and exempt from many FLSA time requirements. That out of the way, my sons were in a swimming class at the local Y and would get out before my schedule TOD ended. I put in 2 hours of leave that would exempt me from overtime that night, exclude me from Saturday unless I called in (no cell phones at this time), but I could work my scheduled Sunday shift (double time). When I got to the Y, there was someone that I knew from work that worked for a sister agency. We chatted while our sons were in class then went on our ways. When I came home there was a nasty call on the answering machine saying that they had an easy overtime job on the Saturday and knew that I was listening in as they called. They weren’t allowed to assign overtime via an answering machine as you weren’t sure if it was received. The supervisor and acting supervisor were pieces of work. Oh, I just wanted them to write me up, they threatened but didn’t do so. Years later I was a poll inspector and who comes in, but that colleague who was at the Y. I mentioned about that time we met off work and told them that they had threatened to write me up for not answering the phone call. I asked him if he would have appeared in my case, to which he replied yes. His appearance would have killed their case completely. He was a special agent for our OIG branch. I had duties involving certification and frauds associated with them that had us work together at times.

Day Care Doesn't Care: It's something I've noticed in my personal experiences that any business that uses religion as part of its selling point (ie "we're a religious family institution") often are the cruelest to their staff. I had a friend leave the faith they had been born and raised into after working for a boss who ran a business catering to the community of their faith. They described their boss as the evilest person they'd ever met and the boss often weaponized their faith, what was worse is that any time my friend tried to talk to somebody else about this business owner everybody vehemently defended the business owner as 'a godly man doing good work'.

Some bosses are great at giving humanitarian time off. Three stories from my time in the Navy. The ship had just gotten back from deployment and my father took himself off dialysis. The doctor told us my father would live 2-3 weeks so I put in for leave starting in the second week. Next, emergency leave is only to be triggered by a Red Cross message. 5 days later mother called me that he had gone vegetative and I told her to trigger the Red Cross message. The next morning when I came on board I told the O.O.D. There should be a Red Cross message (there wasn’t). 5 minutes later I was on leave. I got to the hospital and my father asked as I stepped into his room, “Why are you here?” And before I could answer he was vegetative again. About 7-8 months later that ship was going to get underway and about 3 hours before my wife called saying our 2.5 year old son had escaped. The ship was arranging TAD to save me leave when the police retrieved him. In 1992 it was given 60 days TAD when our 8-day old daughter died.

When I was in high school I was in a car accident and broke my back which required a spinal fusion- afterwards I couldn't sit for more than half a day at a time but the school wouldn't make any accommodations for me (am classes, pm off and night school) and this was before there were online classes (yes I'm old)- so I ended up missing at least one class every day and kept getting in trouble and being sent to the principal's office- I repeatedly explained my situation, kept up with all my work and was even on the honors list, but the principal insisted I stay all day or else I would keep getting in trouble- his reasoning was that others might see me not get in trouble when skipping and feel they could skip too and not be able to keep up with their work- my response was tell him I was in a car accident they all know it anyways they all know I was off school for a few months- but he refused- which led me to miss even more school cuz I hated getting in trouble- eventually I dropped out but graduated with the grade 12 diplomat (at that time in Ontario Canada we had great 13 and I had enough grade 13 credits but apply them to the grade 12 diplomat because I didn't have enough grade 11 credits)... After a few years I went to university, which is only 15 hours a week in class and the rest is done at home so I excelled- I got my first degree in Psychology and my second degree was in Social Work- I wish I'd gone back talk to that principal through it in his face and explain how hard he made my life, which due to the car accident was already pretty hard

I…. Don’t even understand how the oven story could happen?!? Wasn’t he surprised at how SUSPICIOUSLY LOW the numbers were?!? Most regular household °C ovens go just over 250. Of course professional ones go higher, but not as high (number wise) as a professional °F oven would go?!? How did mr. professional not pick up on that?😂

That after school hours place AREN’T the only childcare providing facility that DOESN’T value what their philosophy is. Sure they are all talk with the advertising and reputation of the company, but they really don’t ACTUALLY care about it. They just want you in work constantly, no ifs or buts!! Mainly because the childcare industry is always understaffed and they don’t have any cover for those who want/need to take time off

With the leaving early story, I used to crochet in my office while on my break because the break area was too hot. Apparently some employees complained to the GM and he asked “does she usually do it at the same time every day? For about an hour?” So he pulled me into my direct boss’s office and said he understood I only did it while on break, I needed to not do it in my office so he “didn’t have to hear about it.” 😑 some adults are tattletale whiners

I never understood the purpose of doctor's notes... every time I've presented one to my boss, they've either ignored it or said that it's not eligible and would still mark me as unexcused late or absent. One of them even ripped my note up to show me "this is what I think of your piss poor excuses, now get your lazy ass back to work!" Sigh...

As someone who has baked in several different places, I can say that following your recipe exactly, regarding cook/bake time, isn't the best idea. Every oven cooks differently, even at similar altitudes. And when I baked in the mountains, gee whiz that shit baked so weird. It's like playing the piano. You can't carry it with you, so you have to adjust your playing to the touch of each individual piano. Baking is similar, in my experience

In healthcare if you leave you can be charged with abandonment. I used to live in Pennsylvania in the mountains and we had a blizzard. I was the only one on the shift during the snow in that could pass meds. I was there for a week... I had to sleep in an empty room and my uncle had to walk a mile into my work in 5 feet of snow drifts to bring me clean clothes and toiletries. I was told I am being mandated and couldn't leave until someone could come relieve me who was certified to pass meds. I actually stayed at that job for 3 more years as i completed my rn

I used to show up for work 10-15 mins early, and if I were done with the work before time, clock out and add the 10 mins to the other end, but in the end it would many times not be "enough" (start 10 mins early but done cleaning 20 mins before = 10 mins before sign out time), so it was fair, new manager didn't like that, demanded that we "only clocked in on time and only wrote the exact time we clocked out", result, everyone refused to start work before time and stayed chatting before clocking out on the dot. Upper management didn't understand why it suddenly cost more, untill we told them (idiots) and we got the old "honor system" back.

Bakery bozo: I may get roasted over this, but don't care it's true. I've been a chef for 15 years and so understand how rankings work. Le Cordon Bleu in the United States is one of the lowest ranking culinary schools in the world. It's a chapter France's Le Cordon Bleu which is one of the higher ranking schools in the world and not comparable at all to the one in the United States. Every chef knows this. I know them to be arrogant, and lacking in basic culinary knowledge. I'm an executive chef in Canada and I've worked with several graduates from that school and really I'm not impressed in fact if I saw that on a resume I would probably turn it down. It's apprenticeship course Lacks, so people aren't up to par like the basic 4 year apprenticeship course you take anywhere else after your 2 years of school and training. I wasn't able to call myself a chef until after those 6 years. For context USA course is 4-10 weeks. That's the length of one chapter like maybe the kitchen management portion of ours.

Both grandparents passed within three days of each other (together for 68 years), I took off only two grievance days instead of the allotted four I was permitted bc I knew my boss had it out for me, and when I have to call off sick because the stress and grief finally got to me, she meets me with termination papers in hand. Honestly glad to be done with her crap, but still looking for a job.
