Those instances are not teaching them a lesson. It's pure humiliation for the sake of some views on social media and an attempt to try to show the world of how "good" they are as a parent.

@TheRainbowbeautiful yeah, I think there is a difference between being humbled and being humiliated. I would say that the father humbled their child, so the child got embarrassed. He didn't rant and scream and throw out his phone, post on RU-vid about what a disrespectful brat he is, etc. The dad just made the kid take responsibility for his actions. It is sad that many people cannot see the difference!

Just want to point out, in some areas a prohibition on non-permanent or semi-permanent structures is there for a very good reason. In this case, the neighbors were almost certainly just being d!cks but it's possible that OPs malicious compliance is exactly what the neighbors wanted and now they are happy. How could that be? Let's just say hurricanes, tornadoes and other strong storms. Things like a non-secured soccer goal become deadly.

There's a good chance it's because ice is the cheapest ingredient in literally any drink that isn't tapwater. Many restaurants (especially but not only fast food places) have a policy to fill all cold drinks with a bunch of ice to keep costs lower. Staff are /usually/ allowed the discretion to ignore rules like this when a customer asks for less or no ice... but every once in a while you run into penny-pinching jerks like the guy who served OP's group. It's virtually always a management/owner thing, lower level staff rarely give enough Fs about supply expenses to be that stingy (unless the boss is watching and their job depends on it).

Plus it's not absurd request nor it require someone to go extra mile. In fact it's negative mile. Additionally, don't kick someone out for nothing.

​@@ReigoVassalyes that's just bad business sense. as one of my former co-workers used to say: "jumping over dollars to save nickels" there's a local sub shop that I often eat at, and a few years ago they cut back the operating hours to save money, the problem is I'm usually there around closing time, and the workers are frustrated because right about then is when a lot of customers start coming in that have to be turned away. I'm told they have kind of an automated system that tells them how much business they're supposed to get compared to previous years, the problem is there's no way for the system to know how many sales they missed because they were closed. there's a lot of times when I get out of work late, and that's where I would have gone, but I have to go somewhere else because they're closed. it's baseball season right now, how many parents don't want to go home to make dinner after a game? this place closes at 8:00 and there's usually long lines of traffic coming from the park from 7:30 to 9:00. the other thing is he blames the employees for low sales... as if they're allowed to go outside and flag people down or something... idiot manager.

This is why I love McDonald's, Burger King, Carl's Jr., Jack-in-the-Box... some other popular burger joint who's name escapes me at the moment... famous for being sassy on Twitter... where was I? Because they let you serve your own drinks, so I can not only serve it with no ice, I can mix sprite, pepsi, root beer, and mountain dew or whatever I want and make a drink RU-vid won't let me say the name of.

Honestly, that would've been my reaction as a kid too! Actually, would be my reaction as an adult now! "Ooh, this is a nice BBQ! Got any dessert?" "We got ice cream sandwiches for the kids." "Wait, 'just' for the kids?" *awkward silence*

Actually depends on where you live! The employment laws were I am say that companies only have to pay in 15 min increments so if you show up 5 min late then they don't have to pay you until the next quarter hour (it's within your right to not work though during that time though). Same goes for if you stay 10 min late you don't get more pay until that next quarter hour hits. So just be familiar with the laws in your area!

Wow that's kind of stupid. That's basically pushing a kid for needing to do a basic bodily function 🤦‍♀️ one thing I hate about traveling is no having anywhere to go. Our kids would get a snack (usually a bowl of cereal) and a drink a half hour before bedtime then off to brush teeth, etc. It worked. I finally figured out a system to be sure their tummies were full and my hubby and I got our telly time in!

Reminds me of a story a friend of mine likes to tell. A friend of his had hit it big time. We're talking many, many millions. So when he came back to town, he offered to take my friend and his wife out to dinner. They went to a nice but not super crazy restaurant. Total bill for everyone was around 150 dollars which he quite happily paid. At this point I should point out that the service they had gotten was horrible. The place wasn't busy yet the waitress basically disappeared on them. On the way out they were stopped by the waitress who profusely thanked him for the 50 dollar tip. His response "honey, before I hit it big, I was a waiter. My wife was a waitress. We know how hard it is living off tips like that. That is why I always leave a 500 dollar tip when I eat out. But your service was so bad, I only left 50. Good evening." and they left.

@@CH-ns4gv nah we also call a babysitter a babysitter - that's when someone (usually a teen) comes over as more of a one-off, to put the tv on and keep an eye on the kids for a few hours while the parents are out. A nanny is more involved from what I understand, and have a regular schedule of caring for the kids

@SJ-yu5zk gotcha. I had an adult babysitter as a kid who watched me and a few other kids daily and it was like her full time job but never really heard the word nanny aside from British people and that TV show the nanny with that woman with the screechy voice lol

You're not wrong! I told my daughter she wasn't getting anything else until she ate the food I made for her. She didn't eat for TWO DAYS rather than eat that meal! To clarify a few things: 1) There was nothing wrong with the food. I had the same thing. She was just in a picky phase. 2) It's not neglect if they have good food available, and CHOOSE not to eat it. 3) I think she was sneaking snacks out of the pantry. At no point did she seem malnourished or underfed. I was the one to cave. There are better hills to die on.

Ours just quit working, and Verizon has scrubbed all the info on landline service off their website. We eventually gave up. That phone number had been in my Wife's family since 1945, and probably was attached to the property before that. Kind of sad to lose it.

A friend of mine (NOT rich by any means) stopped in the local diner while he was doing some last minute Christmas shopping. The waitress was very pregnant- and very tired. Later on, he overheard her talking to another waitress. They were a good distance away, but the restaurant was fairly quiet. The waitress was talking about having two kids and a third on the way, and how hard her husband had to work. I need to make it very clear that she was NOT "caging tips." The tip he left her had his bank account screaming in pain, but he rode that high for a long, long time. When he told his wife, she was 100% on board with him spending that much.

My uncle is like that. He's loaded, yet, when his dad died, he and my parents were cleaning out his house and went nuts trying to find all the money hidden in the house. Every time one of my parents found an envelope, he'd grill them about the contents. That's all he looked for. Then, he gypped us all out of our share.

Why? If he does have such an intolerance, the treatment is to not eat it. He's already doing that. Besides, this is almost certainly a psychological thing, not physical. Why waste a bunch of time and money on doctors?

Adults love to downplay and ignore what children tell them, either claiming they're lying or just trying to be dramatic or special. I myself had a time where I told adults that I couldn't eat something because I'll get sick and they made me eat it with the threat of time out. Except when I got sick I was yelled at and told I made myself sick on purpose to spite them, I was *8* and didn't even know what spite meant. In general those people were pretty messed up but that's beside the point. Some people are just convinced children know nothing, understand nothing, aren't worthy of respect and need to just follow orders.

You clearly don't have kids. Some kids are dramatic and will choose the most unhealthy part of meals instead of the essentials like vegetables. Can't raise kids on carbs, fatty and processed things. So saying a certain number of bites is pretty typical. That said, in the 70s they didn't know how to cook with spinach properly. Boiled is the nastiest method.

I'm allergic to raw orange (yes, it's that specific, I'm allergic to an enzyme in them), and my sister has an intolerance to all poultry, all of it makes her sick, including eggs. Because people thought we were just being picky, we spent the entirety of childhood constantly having stomach issues (and I had hives every summer, between my orange allergy and my sun allergy, neither of which ever got checked). Sometimes kids are picky, but if you don't know them it's better not to assume. And if they're your kids, it's worth getting things checked out if they're constantly avoiding specific foods. Editing to add: because I had so many reactions to orange as a kid, my orange allergy actualy got worse. Now even a single bite can make my throat start to swell up and my mouth burns so bad it feels like it's bleeding if I accidentally eat anything with orange in it. It went from a very mild and manageable allergy to a moderate to severe one, and if it gets any worse it could start triggering full anaphylaxis. Please allergy test your kids folks, it's better to have a kid that can't eat certain things than a dead kid, and frankly I'm lucky my allergy only got this bad as an adult, because if I were a kid I'd probably be dead.

@@dudeorduuude5211 I'd rather risk parents being mad at me for their child not eating the right foods over potentially causing a child to be sick by forcing them to eat something they told me would make them sick. Also, I've always been a picky eater, so I've had many times where I was punished because I didn't want to eat something that I didn't like.

Even parents shouldn't do that. For one thing, dislike of food can be caused by undiagnosed food allergies or sensitivities. So allowing a child to refuse is a decent thing to do.

Boiling is the worst method. But cooking with it is great. Spanikopita... yum. In omelets, quiches, lasagna, the best Ethipion dish (gomen wot) is with spinach, or the saag paneer in Indian cooking, etc... yum

My sister has a similar intolerance to poltry, even eggs. No one thought to figure out why chicken and eggs made her feel so bad, lol, we only figured out what was up with her as an adult. Funnily enough, now that she knows why it makes her feel bad, she doesn't mind it as much and can and will devour chicken in... truly worrying amounts (for her, at least.... and me, if I'm in the car with her). Intolerances can be so weird, because the symptoms can be so nonspecific and it can be really hard to track down which part of a meal is making you sick.

@@transsnack at least y'all knew something was up. My Mom, until the day she died, was adamant that I was just "being difficult." My husband and his family took me seriously. On my side of the family, they didn't press it, but my Mom never took it seriously, and she would make me eat whatever my stomach couldn't handle. I have kids now, and I don't do that with them. If they don't like something, I don't serve it to them.

I don't dislike it. Food got pretty scarce sometimes when I was growing up, so I l learned to eat almost anything. Best way to enjoy spinach is in that Korr spinach dip, using the Knorr dried vegetable soup mix. It kicks @$$, and is a holiday tradition in our family.
