Today “Radio Free Mormon” continues with its newest episode “Denying Church History”. This episode uses an interview with Marlin Jensen where he was interviewed by Doug Fabrizio just after the Helen Whitney’s “The Mormon” aired on PBS. Radio Free Mormon dissects this interview to show as Much as the Church wants to move into transparency that it still sees too much of a risk to 100% completely stay clear of hiding history.

Well done 👍🏻 We all have the personal responsibility to find truth in everything. Anyone who does a little research on Joseph Smith and still believes he was prophet is lying to themselves. Eternity is a long time.

I remember a quote by Joseph Fielding Smith emphasizing the role of an historian in which he stated (paraphrasing here) that the role was so vital that if an historian lied about any aspect of history you could never trust that person's word again. It was this statement that forced me to deliberate on whether I could accept him as a prophet since obviously I could not (by his own word) ever trust him or the historical account he helped form. I owe Joseph Fielding Smith my eternal thanks for making his own hypocrisy so blatantly clear.

Listening to this brought back memories long ago. Thirty or so years ago I lived across the street from one of the church archivists. There were days he would come home in the evening so frustrated. I remember this particular time he talked about Boyd Packer being the head of the archives then. There had been a meeting that day and Packer stated that if the materials in the department were not protected by revelation (D&C) he would have every document, everything burned that did not follow the whitewashed party line of the church. Makes me wonder that there must be a lot of stuff there that actually tells the truth of the time, which we get very little of anymore that must scare the bejeebers out of the GA's. For me this underscores that LDS, Inc. is driven by fear, not revelation, not love, but cold fear.

"What is told to the Youth is what is told to the grown-ups, is what is told to the old people. it is a very true saying in Mormonism that you never really graduate from Primary" (32:36) This is very true. In fact, this is SO true that even the most "sacred" covenants made in the Temple Endowment... those only available to the most obedient and devout of Mormons... are no different from the SAME COVENANTS made at Baptism by 8 year-olds: Law of Obedience, Sacrifice, Chastity and Gospel (i.e., Obey commandments, repent, remain chaste, receive and have faith in Gospel ordinances and leaders). The only Covenant NOT a rehash of Baptism covenants is the LAST one made... the one they trick you with and that fully explains why all of this super-secret mumbo-jumbo was created in the first place: The Law of Consecration... in which we are required to " ... consecrate yourselves, your time, talents, and everything with which the Lord has blessed you, or with which he may bless you (e.g., MONEY), to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, for the building up of the kingdom of God on the earth and for the establishment of Zion. " And there it is... the ultimate covenant of the Cult... the ultimate burden of Communism, itself: Everything we are, own or will own, we promise to hand over upon demand to the "State" ("Church") to be used however the Church sees fit. THAT is the true and original purpose of all the "Endowment" hocus-pocus... right there.

This is a fantastic episode. The key part is at 38:53. Marlin Jensen admits that the church will continue to hide troubling aspects church history in order to present the church in a more favorable and faith promoting light. “We couldn’t really live without our history. Mormonism really rises or falls on its history.” Case closed.

Around 15:00, Jensen comments on polygamy in the Bible, implying that since it was a practice in ancient cultures, it should be okay for today's culture as well. What he fails to mention, and what most polygamists ignore, is that it was against the law in the United States. Bigamy was illegal, and Joseph Smith was not only a louse for lying repeatedly to his wife Emma regarding the number of "plural wives" that he was "marrying", he was committing a crime. How the Mormon church can continue to support and defend his actions is beyond me.
@zachgarver7922
@zachgarver7922 3 года назад
I agree. However, if one fully researches the matter, including the primary documents related to Smith's polygamy and polyandry, such as the so-called "Happiness Letter" from Smith to Nancy Rigdon, as well as the research of the Tanners and others; one can only conclude that to call Smith a mere "polygamist" is a gross understatement. It is not at all unreasonable to conclude he was a criminal sexual predator and child rapist. Furthermore, one need only read the church's own gospel topic essay on the matter to reasonably conclude the church is not only admitting to Smith's polygamy and polyandry, (albeit with a church spin on it) but tacitly admitting to having lied about it for over 170 years.

"(Polygamy) is simply a practice that was done by the ancient Hebrews, never with God's explicit sanction or command" (15:46) "Stop the tape" (this really gets old throughout). While I enjoyed everything else, yet your objection here is not accurate. Whatever one's views on Polygamy, yet Biblically we repeatedly find "God," Himself not only explicitly sanctioning polygamy but also openly supporting it. He might not have commanded it, but He most certainly gave specific laws for its practice and wholly supported polygamy, even using it as reward for obedience to Him and favor received of Him (e.g. King David's wives -- 2 Sam. 12:8). Further, when Aaron and Moses' wife, Miriam, opposed Moses taking an Ethiopian woman as a polygynous wife, God's anger "was kindled against" them for doing so; He sided with Moses ( - Numbers 12:1-11). And yes, God did specifically sanction polygyny in His commandments to Israel regarding its practice... thus, sanctioning that practice (e.g., Exodus 12:10 "If he takes another wife to himself, he shall not diminish her [the first wife's] food, her clothing or her marital rights" ... also, Leviticus 18:18, 20:14, etc.).
