Its definitely not price, but as someone who missed lots of games when I was younger due to League of Legends, it seems common that players of these kind of games just miss other big releases. For example, when each character was released for DLC, i had only ever played 4 of the games they were from, having missed out on Persona, FF7 and others.

My top two picks got into smash as DLC, Sepiroth was not one of them but he undoubtedly had the best trailer out of every character by a country mile.

Steve was my dream character and I still think sephiroth’s was by far the best, it was so ominous and proved just how iconic he is

If they added Tetris blocks into smash, people would also loose their shit because of how iconic the character is. It's a testament to their games and influence. Sepiroth may have had a good trailer, but Steve has a good game

His trailer was extremely well animated, the character was hype as hell for Dragon Quest fans, and the alts (ooooh, the alts) were just as hype of a reveal as the actual character. The way they slowly brought DQ3 Erdrick into focus was just 👌😔 Steve's reveal WAS objectively excellent, but Hero's reveal is also an easy S-tier when judged on an objective scale.

I have to agree with you on this one since I loved the scene when Byleth and Sothis fused but there could have been alot of different options for the trailer. They may be one of my mains but like I mentioned it could have been better

Also the reason Kazuya throws someone off a cliff is because it’s a reference to the Tekken story, I promise it makes sense

I wouldn't treat it as the worst thing ever but it was pretty meh Tbh the FE reps are good but their trailers have been very lackluster, except for Lucina and Robin's like that's undefeated

Umm it lasted about as long as any other trailer. I get that the trailer was boring to a lot of people but after playing the game I have a newfound appreciation of Byleth and his trailer

Unpopular opinion: I think Steve's trailer would've been so much better if they did start it out in Minecraft. It didn't work for Byleth or Aegis since they aren't huge titles, but I think with the absolute juggernaut of a franchise that Minecraft is, it could've worked better to grab people's attention.

I was kinda sad I didnt see the entire trailer when it went live on the Game Awards. I was having dinner and I was like 6 or 7 mins late into the video and didnt even realized the time so I rushed in and they legit had to show off his trailer first so all that I saw was first was when Sephiroth goes through that black hole on the fountain of dreams stage. Knowing what happened I screamed off the top of my lunges. After that I had to wait like another hour or 2 for the full trailer to show up on RU-vid and when I saw the beginning it blew my mind even more like " OH SHIT EVERYONE IS GONNA DIE, RUN CLOUD"

Agreed Steve was cool don't get me wrong it was an A tier reveal though. Like yes his reveal was big but I don't think it was that crazy of a reveal. Minecraft was one of those series I fully expected to see get at least SOME kind of content added to Smash. It is again the highest selling game of all time. It'd be silly to not assume it wasn't going to recieve some kind of attention especially after Banjo got announced. The Sephiroth trailer though was a genuine surprise. I don't think a single person ever thought we'd get to see Sephiroth added to Smash any time soon at least not as a playable fighter anyway. As deserving as he is and was of a slot due to his past deconfirmation by Sakurai of his Masamune being too long. So hearing his boss music start playing after his insanely badass entry where he cuts down Galeem. Sent the internet into chaos immediately. I don't think a single person can say they were disappointed by his announcement either. His reveal is the easiest objective S tier out of any DLC announcement period. This coming from someone who only wanted to see Sora personally mind you and got his most wanted. It is borderline slander to say Sephiroth's trailer wasn't an easy S tier.

I agree. I was one that who just plays one arcade fighting Game back then (I usted to play Tekken) but It was amazing to see that trailer and it blows my mind how they not realise what it means for the fans and to the fighting game scene. But they don't know what a downback plus 2 is so whatever.

If we count non-dlc, I think Isabelle’s trailer also pulled it off well. It had the hype of people wanting a new animal crossing game (and even confirmed a new one coming out at the end so people weren’t disappointed that it was just smash), and Isabelle mentions smash in passing (how the mayor has been busy with smash) which would catch the attention of people who were hoping for smash news without fully confirming what it was. Probably not as exciting or hype as the Joker one, but still a good bait and switch

Byleth may have been the most boring reveal to a lot of people, but after getting 3 houses, one of my fav switch titles now, for my bday 8 have a newfound appreciation for Byleth and his reveal trailer.

Sorry, but... In terms of popularity and who was most covered by media, Steve comes in first place. Everyone commented about Steve, even people who don't play Smash at all. Sephiroth was just another character for everyone except ff fans xD

@@frostfrost8907 and that's fine, but the subject isn't which game is played more, it's about who had the better trailer and partially was a bigger reveal. The trailer speaks for itself so if you want to talk about the reveal, I think Steve appearing in Smash is less of a surprise than Sephiroth and even Sora appearing in the game when you consider that Sony and Square Enix were involved with both and Disney with Sora. Those are legal nightmares. Also yes Minecraft Steve is cool, but his character has no backstory, Sephiroth is one of the most celebrated villains in any game, and is recognized by FF fans as well as by those who haven't played a single FF game

I liked heros reveal alot but dragon quest isn't that big in the west so I see why it wasn't hype in Japan was bouncing off the walls for him though lol

Well they did say at the beginning of the video it was going to very extremely bias. And the only game they played out of the dlc characters was Steve. Which why it makes sense why he's the only S-tier

Understandable, but I think it gives a good perspective to the average smash player. Most players who aren't super dedicated might share our views so not knowing a game doesn't always invalidate your opinion on a reveal

Steve's trailer was definitely carried by it being Steve. But it makes sense considering Minecraft is the best selling game of all time. He's as iconic as mario. So little people know who sepiroth is so it's hard to get excited over his reveal

@@SXJAYSX I would also argue Sora for S-Tier too since the trailer going back to the first reveal trailer bringing up nostalgia, the fact they are literally hyping up the final fighter, and the cinematics of one last flame coming from the Smash logo and Mario himself picking it up, quite literally "passing on the torch" to the last Smash character before it reveals a pretty cool shot of the Kingdom Key surrounded by flames, the Kingdom Key opening a keyhole where Sora comes out, and is surrounded by light as he's flying around and a beautiful rendition of "Simple and Clean" is playing, finishing off with that climactic shot of "Sora Is Finally Here!" with Sora's most iconic pose. And to say it wasn't hype is not true in the slightest. He was #1 on the Smash Ballot from six years ago, one that Steve himself was even on, I would imagine. Sora had more hype than anyone requested in Smash's entirety, and the trailer they used to finish on was not only perfect, but really made a lot of people happy, more than any character could.

Imo the real problem and what people really complain about is the fact that so many of these swordies are from the same game, when they could easily be alts and save slots, making the sword concept less repetitive.

Wait, what? Okay, just rewatched the Sora trailer. I didn't even think about it being dark souls, but with it in mind yeah I can see it. Mostly the atmosphere and flame / bonfire looking thing. Dark Souls would be kinda cool, though not sure which character they would pick for it, since you can customize the player character. Solaire would be cool, onion knight would be hilarious but unlikely. Dark Souls combat in Smash, sounds interesting how they would pull that off. Oh well.

Guess it was partly in my head as timing wise Elden Ring is pretty close so EZ PR. Character wise yea plenty of options, but would have died if they had included different rolls (flip roll-fat rolling) lol

I will say if we had the exact same number of reps as we have for FE, but they were more varied in how they play, the hate would be a lot less. Make it something like Marth (the original protag), Ike (greatsword), Robin (mage), Corrin (Manakete), Hector (Greataxe), Ephraim (Lance), some mounted unit (this one's the biggest stretch but is the archetype missing so less inclined to zero in on a single person), and Byleth for the "bow without only having ranged options" as they are now, you wind up with a complete cast of characters who are all unique and showcase all of the variety FE has to offer, rather than people who don't know the series seeing "literally everyone in FE has a sword, whether or not it's all they have"

Be proud. Us FE fans gotta stick together.

Hikaru Octo, that's because most smash players don't bother playing any Fire Emblem game, like myself. I have to admit that few of the a sound tracks for the game are bangin, not good enough to convince me to play it though.

Eh I disagree. Just because if you play high level KH counter is arguably top 3 move in the game. It's so essential to Soras combat in the game plus it is cool that animation why's it is very faithful and honestly a counter is a fun mix up in Smash combat.
