This is a basic tutorial for starting with the Razer Hydra NEW Motioncreator download link: mega.nz/#!sZsiDKpJ!4bSMQjoqFI... MCE (Profile) Creation Tutorial: • Razer Hydra: MCE Creat... Advanced Tutorial: • Razer Hydra: Advanced ...
Hello. I've created a script that allows using the Hydra as an Xbox controller with all the analog sticks and triggers. After years of using Motion Creator 2, I got tired of it. Keyboard mapping is interesting, but it's not as convenient to edit or create profiles for an every new game each time. With XInput, you set it up once, and it works. I've posted a setup video on my channel. Similar setup was done by someone around ten years ago, but it only worked in Windows test mode.
This is awesome! I used to use a program called 'Hydra DirectInput Wrapper' that mrwonko on the old Sixense forums made that allowed mapping of all the hydra inputs including motion (both sides) to directinput joystick axis and inputs. It was really great for flight sims and 6dof space games. Unfortunately it stopped working after Windows 8 and it was reliant upon the old PPJoy driver not the newer VJoy one so it had lots of issues. Thanks for posting! I like to think if they continued development on the Hydra that eventually the MotionCreator software would just have allowed xinput emulation from within it as it was very clumsy to switch it to directinput mode and then have to use another remapper to convert that to xinput. But alas we never got that far with it, so this will be really useful.
@@directedinput Yeah, Hydra DirectInput Wrapper is a really cool app. I still need to tune my script to have as many functions. By the way, do you know of any utilities or programs to make aiming with the stick similar to Hydra's mouselook? Maybe I'll try to implement something like that in the script.
Thank you SO MUCH for the download link. Had a pair of Hydras 8 years ago which i lost when moving, bought a second hand pair today only to learn sixense doesn't exist anymore and i could not create a profile in any way. You were a lifesaver!
It has been seen many times already, but I felt compelled to say it again: Thank you so much for having your download link online still! I just took out my Razer Hydra again, to play with my daughter. This was exactly what I was looking for! Much appreciated!
Friend, even after so many years, I would like to leave a statement here: The Razer hydra was (in my opinion) the best controller ever made for PC gaming without using a keyboard. I remember at the time of launch I had never played FPS on PC, because as much as I tried, I had no keyboard and mouse skills. As soon as I bought and saw your videos teaching you how to use and create new settings, I started creating many (lots!) settings for a multitude of FPS games I wanted to play. I currently have 4 units in perfect working order. As I bought it and saved it in case any of these problems, I already have a spare unit. The truth is, I can't play games on PC anymore without using Razer Hydra. Unfortunately it was unbelievable that this great controller was not accepted by most players at the time of its release, as in my opinion, to this day (2022), it remains the best controller ever made for the player who doesn't want to use keyboard and mouse . Perhaps if you had been hired by Razer at the time to demonstrate and make new game setups, he would have been successful, as his knowledge and dedication in using this controller is truly unbeatable. Straight from Brazil, congratulations!!!
Thanks for your nice comment! I completely agree that the Hydra is the best controller ever for PC, allowing someone to play games built for mouse and keyboard easily and with a great configurator. Unfortunately the Hydra on it's original release was not as easy to use and did not have the Motioncreator software like it did a few years later when I finally got into it, so I see why it didn't succeed in the market. I'm happy my videos have helped people get into it and make profiles of their own! As you might have seen with my recent videos, I use JoyCon on PC a lot now with Gyro controls, I also think this is kind of a 'next step' for anyone interested in these kinds of controls on PC. However they are far cheaper and easier to get into than the Hydra at this point in time. Cheers!
Thank you so much! I was so mad I couldn't find the MCE installer anywhere nowadays. Really sucks that Sixense doesn't give a shit about the hydra anymore, I wrote to them almost a year ago and they never replied.
After an hours long session on Wikipedia, comparing computer input devices, I finally ended up finding the Razor Hydra. It's entry lacked recent information though, so here I am. From the looks of it, this could potentially be useful for both 3D modeling, and playing at least one game I know of called Neos VR, that is in the process of adding support for a wide range of play modes, including VR, mouse + keyboard, touchscreen, gamepad, and combinations of these. I think the Razor Hydra would work well with either a 2D screen or 3D headset. Neos VR was designed as a VR engine first, but the design philosophy of the creator allows him to add support for many ways to do the same thing at much reduced cost in development time. A very popular request from the userbase has been a purpose designed desktop mode (2D screen, mouse, and keyboard). So that's been recently getting worked on. Support for game pads is being thrown in as well. Exposing the controller mapping to the user will be part of that effort. I've been really obsessed with Neos VR for months, since I first heard of it. But I still need to get a computer to play it on, which might be driving me a little crazy. The computer will be a big purchase, leaving little money left over for VR, so I've been looking for alternate ways to get into VR, or at least to interact in VR cheaply. I also really want to do 3D modeling, so if I can get something that benefits me there as well, that would be a huge plus. Ideally, I want to making money doing 3D modeling, which means that I would benefit from a faster workflow. My initial idea was to get a 3D mouse. But research on Wikipedia revealed the Razor Hydra as a potential option. The first pass of my research also showed a kind of device called a SpaceBall, but I wonder how useful that would be in Neos. Have you tried the Razor Hydra in Blender, or any other 3D modeling program? If so, how is the accuracy? What's the experience like? Also, have you used a Linux OS? And have you used the Hydra on it successfully?
Sorry but I really have only used the Hydra for gaming so I can't be of much help. I do know that people have used it in Blender but the posts about that were on the old Sixense hydra forum which has since been lost. Just judging from my experience with it though I'm not sure it would be a good fit for 3d modeling as it's very range limited to the base and subject to jittering/interference. I haven't tried it on Linux so I don't know if it would work there.
Thanks. I would probably be better served to continue my search, or wait to accumulate the money to buy VR controllers or a complete VR headset + controllers package, considering the availability of the Razor Hydra now. Totally off topic though, I watched you play a game with these controllers, and the hand movements reminded me of using a Joystick to play Mechwarriors. If you can find Mechwarrior 4, I can personally confirm its a fun game. Though I only played it in single player. I would suggest ye olde Mechwarrior 2, but compatibility issues generally rise the further apart the release date of the systems involved. So there's a free suggestion, in case you wanted ideas for something other than an FPS or RPG game. There are more modern Mechwarrior games, but I know nothing about them.
The only way I can think of which is kind of a pain is to switch to 'Gamepad' mode in the top right of the Motioncreator main window. Then use another program like Xpadder or Pinnacle game profiler to convert the inputs to xinput.
What I dont understand is how to tell steamvr where the base station is. It thinks the base station is in a completely different place than it is compared to where I'm looking.
Hi, ca you still use Razer Hydra in 2023? I can't access the website anymore. I downloaded the motion controller in your link, is the list of games still being updated with new games? Thanks for your time, I sure hope you can help me it took me a long time to get my new razer hydra and now I'm hoping to use it. Thanks in advance.
Hi, yes you can still use it, their site is down but the MotionCreator software is still available at the link in the description. It is no longer being updated and Sixense (the company behind the Hydra) no longer works on gaming tech so you will have to make your own configs other than the ones included in it. I also have a tutorial on config creation.
I'm having trouble moving in game. Up and Down works fine but if I try walking to the left, there's no movement and If I pressed towards the right, then I start strafing left? Any idea why this is?
Are you using the Motioncreator? can you share the MCE file you are using? It might be the mce file or a faulty Hydra. Click the console button on the Motioncreator and monitor that while you try the different movement directions and it should tell you what is going on
@@directedinput Yeah, I'm using the Motioncreator 2. I've created my own mce file after watching your tutorial(thanks by the way) for Fortnite. I'd recalibrated my controller and now I can move left and right. However, now I'm strafing left everytime I walk. Here's the mce file ufile.io/jjuqb
I think I found the issue, you have your joystick for movement set to 4-way when you should be using Blend mode for fully diagonal movement. I tested the MCE and I was able to move in the 4 directions just fine, but in 4-way mode it locks you to one of those 4 directions instead of blending them together allowing diagonal movement and feels quite stiff. Try changing your left stick to Blend mode and see if that fixes your issues, it's in the dropdown menu on the top right when you go into the joystick options
@@directedinput I tried that and still the problem persists. I tested other mces in other games such as cod and I get the same issue. Hell, it's even doing it on my desktop now when I use as a mouse cursor lol Either something causing interference or it's simply broken. Thanks for your help though. Subbed.
If that's the case then sadly I think your Hydra is broken :( You could try opening it up and messing with the left stick module. Before that though, why not swap the Hydras around (left hydra goes right hand, right hydra goes left hand), and mirror your MCE. That way your left stick for movement will at least work although your right stick bindings won't be functional.
I really appreciate you making these. Hate to be a bother, but my controller still isn't recognized. It did not come with a USB, so I used a random one. It lights up, but it is dim. Maybe the USB is not correct.
I don't think that would matter, I used many different usb cables with mine as long as it fit and it didn't make a difference. If the base is lightning up then is at least getting power. If you get the controllers not connected message in the motioncreator then it is the connection between the base and the controllers which is it's own unique cable and connector, so I recommend checking that connection and making sure the connection is snug
@@directedinput alright. I may have to send them back. I have checked the controller connection a bunch since reading this, and it just doesn't work. The only reason I think it is the usb is that when I plug it into my laptop, there is no sound that indicates something is plugged in
There should be a sound, but if the base is lighting up I think that means the connection is working at least. My guess is the controllers are bad or the wire that comes out of them is broken in some part, unfortunately the controllers weren't very durable at all and the wire could get tangled very easily leading to breaks in the connection.
@@directedinput thank you. I will try some different computers and cables today. If it does not work, I'll send them back. It's sad because I'm having a hard time finding this
@@directedinput I changed the usb and it worked! Lit up bright and asked me to point at the unit and click. I'm going to play everything with this I can! Thank you. My next project will be to see if I can get it to work on steam deck
