A certain film theory suggests that Christine's particular torments are representative of her low self confidence and potentially an eating disorder. The vomiting, the hair loss, the fact that most of the Lamia's attacks happen while she's in the kitchen or around food, etc. She is also constantly reminded of her former weight like when Mrs. Ganush's granddaughter said, "You used to be a big fat girl" or the Lamia calling her a "dirty pork queen"

I can never forget seeing this for the first time on the big screen. The movie theater was like a packed house for a rock legend with fans just cheering, applauding and laughing at every moment that was so definitively Raimi. Which is understandable, this really was his big return to horror at the time. My date that night still has a love-hate relationship with this movie; she genuinely wanted to see the old woman get (in her own words) properly fucked up in the end.

Along with Dead Silence, Drag Me to Hell is one of the MOST UNDERRATED horror movie I’ve ever seen. It one of those movies that genuinely creeped me out and made me interested in horror movies. If you’d like to watch some more underrated horror movies I’d highly recommend Trick R Treat first. It’s that’s quite good concept out of Halloween. I’d also recommend Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Hansel & Gretel: The Witch Hunters. Although I wouldn’t place these 2 movies in horror movies exactly but I’ll place them on enjoyable dark movies.

The old lady seems like a morality-test type of character. It's because she is so unsightly and repuslive that it really judges Christine's moral compass to help her or not. I like the point made in the beginning where all the other characters a kindly talking down to her about everything and treating her as less-than, and you can see how she got to this position where she was willing to ruin someone's life to advance her own.

Horror fictions, especially supernatural horrors have always had in them a degree of absurdism which inherently is flamboyant. This is true in the oldest folktales as well as in modern horror masters. Some of King's most renowned works are almost sassy in deliverance. Poe reveled in the decadence of the decayed. Most cosmic horrors are more or less a practice of translating dread into flowery language. Even your beloved Hitchcock himself explored and employed campiness in his approach in plenty. Campiness isn't just to attract attention, it's also an allegory to the unpredictability of nature that we interpret as horror.

maan im forever angry that this poor girl was cursed bc that stupid old romanie lady and ALL her family couldnt pay her mortgage. like all those jerks can come to her funeral and throw a going away party but NO ONE can help her keep her house. and old Lady had the nerve to blame her issues on our main character who was literally just doing her job and trying to be nice about it. A lot of people deserved that curse but she wasnt one. and i get it thats probably the point of it but it's still flippin sucks

Shii happens bro. Mall cop tells you that you can’t film inside and all of a sudden there’s a video of him getting flipped and told off on RU-vid trending with over 1.5M views in two days and comments saying that security takes his job way too serious and doesn’t know the US constitution and now there’s a gofundme for some ridiculous cause and bro posted his side of the story but it’s been 4 days n it only got 4156 views but 2000+ comments so you know they cooking him. I love the absurdity of this movie, so fun to watch. The reason the goat didn't work is they needed two. Scapegoat comes from a goat sent into the wilderness after the Jewish chief priest had symbolically laid the sins of the people upon it (Lev. 16). There is a 2nd goat that would be slaughtered as part of the general Yom Kippur rituals.

The most freaky thing about this movie is that it's rated PG-13!! It's so scary and disgusting (in a good way) and rated as Avengers of Trasformers, this fact just blows my mind. I love this movie a lot. Scary, bright, funny, great acting, there is nothing to not like, honestly

This movie is probably the most underrated of all of Sam Raimi...The Evil Dead serie is classic, but that one got some really unique shot and moments...the entire moment with the shadows under the door was like something out of a James Wan movie like the Conjuring. It's great horror and the comedy is pretty fun too !!

I LOVED this film the first time I saw it! The parking garage scene sold me instantly! This film walked such a fine line between horror and comedy. Kudos to the writers/directors for how they did it. So many instances in which I thought to myself, "Wow, this is scary...oh wait, this is...this is funny? No wait...this is a horror film, this isn't funny...(proceeds to LOL)". And the focus on vomit and blood and things coming out of one's body (and going in) is just so weird and epic. Love that you watched it!

when i watched this with my christian parents, they kept arguing that the christian god will never allow a good person's soul who did not commit suicide to be dragged to hell and torn to pieces. they kept saying the curse of a witch who cant even pay her mortgage is not more powerful than the grace of god. they were getting heated up about the premise until i reminded them that it's just a fictional movie.

The ending depressed me...while everyone else cheered for it =P LOL!!! But this was my first Sam Raimi horror movie I saw so I was not prepared for the horror/comedy mash (I went in thinking this was a full blown horror movie) and not sure if I was supposed to take it seriously or not. XD On the second viewing and viewings after I actually liked it more. =)

You reminded me why I could not make it through this. It was gross, but seeing it was so intriguing. Now I wanna see it sincerely, grossness aside 😆. That end scared me though, not because of the movie but because of a docu horror show The Haunting. This guy's friends were murdered after doing something and he got a phone call from them they were screaming for help from hell 😭 so creepy. Recommend: The Hunt. Spontaneous. A haunted house. Killer Klowns from Outer Space, Scary movie 1-2 - crude jokes often but still fantastic, and Life after Beth.

The way i see it old lady didn't pay on time , all those people she ended up talking knew about her debt and they still say this random girl deserves everything coming on her way because she said no ? Easiest way to get fired or best case not getting any promotion near time is to look unprofessional and too sensitive for the job . I took a field trip to Winnipeg MB in the fifth grade when it was out in theatres and our teacher to very little knowledge picked this movie (PG-14 Horror I think?) out of the Majority of votes for the class. We were mostly frightened of the jump scares but we definitely laughed when she pulls the knife out is ready to sacrifice the cat. "Here kitty kitty.🔪🐱" Half of my class laughed 😸😂

I HIGHLY Recommend the film Curse of the Demon which this film was loosely based from the story "Casting of the Runes" from the 1950s with Dana Andrews which investigates the Occult, Mental Illness, and doubt of the supernatural. The book FURNACE is an excellent page turner with the same theme by Muriel Grey.

I NEED you guys to react to Barbarian, PLEASE. I rarely make demands on here but it’s such a unique movie. Go into it with no knowledge, definitely the best way to watch that one. Ever since I watched it I keep looking up reaction videos to see what people think, but you guys are so insightful when you watch stuff, I think it would be great. The writer is from The Whitest Kids U Know, if you’re familiar with their show. Malignant is a pretty interesting one too.

When I was a kid, I was invited to a sleepover. Her mom wasn't an involved parent, so we just did what we wanted at that house. one girl did not know that fact and she was religious. someone put this movie on, and it scared her so badly. she cried and called her mom on her Motorola razor who then got into a classic lawn screaming match with the hosts mom. poor girl was made fun of for the rest of the year. I always felt bad, she was probably traumatized and then forced to remember because of the mean girls/boys at her school.

This movie is really one of the most terrifying and offensive of them all to me. I mean, the idea of hell is preposterous and unjust enough (infinite punishment for finite crimes) to traumatize hundreds of people brainwashed by religious indoctrination. But to make it so easy to be condemned (even the children) by some gypsy witch and no one, no god interferes even though it's not according to his rules just makes my blood boil. I know it is fiction but I really hoped for a sequel in which the innocent are saved.

I still don't get why they had to use the racist 'gypsy curse' trope in this movie, there has to be another way of having someone cursed without just using racism. And in any case, from what I can tell the least offensive term is Romani rather than Gypsy though I've heard that some use the term 'gypsy' to reclaim the word.
